Abstract

Gunung Ireng geosite is an excellent geoheritage that is also a part of the Gunungsewu UNESCO Global Geopark in Pengkok, Gunungkidul Regency. It is widely recognized as an experiential leisure tour destination with the sunrise, sunset, and milky way watching as its activities. The primary attraction is the natural museum of Tertiary submarine paleo-volcanic miniature that was developed during the Early Miocene (±20-23 million years ago). Mentoring in utilizing the resources is necessary. The local community has agreed to develop geotourism as an effort to conserve the cultural, biotic, and geological environment. The certified instructors or mentors and professionals used mentoring methods to increase the local community’s abilities in preparing, managing, and evaluating the geotourism, including management, advertisement, marketing, guidance, web hosting, culinary, and accommodations.. The results are the status of the geoheritage area (by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 13 K.HK.01.MEM.G.2021), the viral of the local Gunung Ireng’s Spot Festival, the local culinary facilities, the CHSE certificate, as well as up to 300% increase in visitors per month before the pandemic and 200-300% increase during the pandemic. Other results that have successfully developed the supporting attractions are the Ahad Pon traditional market, the footsteps flashback of the great da'wah Sunan Kalijogo on Gunung Ireng and the Geological Natural Track of the Ancient Volcano of Gunung Ireng. Those three attractions are the efforts to improve the local community's economy, nature, and cultural conservation as the solid implementations of geotourism activities. Qualitatively, these various efforts are now starting to show impacts, with the increased motivation of the community to focus more on developing this destination, and the increasing attention of local governments to support these conservation activities, although quantitatively it has not to be measured yet.

Abstract

Community service activities for students at the Faculty of Language and Communication, Universitas Harapan (FBK UNHAR) Medan to implement haji bunka towards social distancing policies amid the Covid-19 pandemic are an appropriate activity in providing an understanding of Japanese shame culture (haji bunka) for FBK UNHAR students and its implementation to prevent the spread of Covid-19. FBK UNHAR is a private higher education institution in Medan that faces challenges in implementing education on campus during the pandemic and the government's new normal performance. In this service, the team has conducted a socialization about the implementation of the haji bunka on campus, such as replacing handshakes with ojigi, wearing masks, classifying garbage, and other activities that can help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Offline socialization activities were carried out through lecture methods and discussions with students. Following the socialization, the community service team and students agreed to incorporate the haji bunka into daily student activities on campus, as well as the protocol for implementing lectures if it is applied offline.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Education is something that serves as a foundation for humans. As educational activists, we can raise a better generation by conducting teaching activities for the nation's children to hone their academic and non-academic abilities outside formal schools. The large number of students dropping out of school causes non-formal education to have an important role in fostering environmental awareness. This activity aims to foster a sense of concern for environmental knowledge, especially among children in Rawa Simprug IX, South Jakarta, Special Capital Region of (DKI) Jakarta. In addition, it also aims to enhance children's interest in reading from an early age and their understanding of various lessons that have been or have not been obtained in formal schools. This activity was conducted from August 2019 to November 2019. The peak of the event was held on Sunday, November 24, 2019. In this activity, several books could be loaned to children for on-the-spot reading (in the Madani Rubric). The book was carried by a mobile library car from the South Jakarta Administration City Library and Archives Service. There were approximately 30 children of Rawa Simprug IX who took part as the participants in this event. This activity teaches children in the Rawa Simprug IX area who need additional education with the help of HMTL (Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Lingkungan) and some lecturers from Pertamina University as the teaching staff. The children were also taught about the environment, particularly reducing plastic waste by using drinking bottles. The achievement of this activity is a recycling product made by the target community themselves.

Abstract

Thalassemia, the fifth-most catastrophic disease with 10,555 patients, causes physical, emotional, and economic burden for the patient, their family, and the country. Annually, IDR 500 billion are needed to cover the treatment of thalassemia. This projected number will continue to increase if no action is taken, so education and knowledge dissemination are important for thalassemia prevention. This community development involves thalassemia patients and families as partners and encourages them to share their knowledge and experience about thalassemia with the Indonesian late adolescents, young adult, and middle-aged adult population through an online webinar to increase public knowledge on thalassemia. Education media, such as posters and videos, were developed and disseminated during the activity, followed by live sharing from thalassemia patients, parents, and pediatricians. The respondents’ knowledge of thalassemia was measured using an 11-items questionnaire before and after the online educational activity. The results show that the respondents have a good knowledge of thalassemia, and it increases after attending online education event about the disease (9.74+2.4, 10.22+0.77, p<0.001). Their knowledge was associated with health-related field experience, knowing someone with thalassemia, and their willingness to undergo thalassemia testing (p<0.046, 0.013, and 0.007, respectively). Thus, these findings support the importance of education and dissemination of information regarding Thalassemia. Moreover, strong knowledge might lead to a willingness to undergo thalassemia testing, which might lead to less marriage between carriers and, eventually, a reduction in the incidence of thalassemia major.

Abstract

Endodontic treatment of anterior trauma and caries followed by post and crown restoration is not included in the minimum standard of oral care in primary health facilities. Endodontic treatment, which requires a relatively long time and the number of visits compared to mere tooth extraction, often makes it impossible to carry out in a health facility with many patients per day. This community service was aimed to provide technical understanding and knowledge of endodontic treatment procedures for anterior teeth that are simple, up-to-date, with a minimum number of visits, and provide an understanding of the selection of dental fibre post materials that meet reasonable material requirements at a more affordable price. Methods for implementing the activities consisted of: (1) Formulation and preparation; (2) Pre-test; (3) Expert lecture; (4) Live demo; and (5) Post-test. This community service increased the knowledge and ability in endodontic treatments for anterior teeth and their restoration with dental fibre posts from the prospective dentists and dentists who were participants in this community service. This activity can also lead to the making of the latest manual and standards for endodontic treatment for anterior teeth and their restoration with dental fibre posts.

Abstract

A number of applications have been used for managing health data and information and tend to be fragmented between health programs in health offices. In consequence, the analysis and interpretation process becomes difficult since the data is scattered in separate sources. One of the solutions offered as an effort to synchronize and integrate health data in Indonesia is through implementing District Health Information Software (DHIS2). DHIS2 is an application that emphasizes data integration at the health office level. Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing UGM has been partnered with the Special Region of Yogyakarta Health Office to carry out community service activities in the context of utilizing DHIS2 for health data integration in the province. The implementation of DHIS2 was divided into 4 stages, namely workshop on data availability, socialization, and training of DHIS2; data mapping and customizing DHIS2; implementing health data integration; and dissemination, supervision, and evaluation. Six health offices were the target of community service activities in the province. DHIS2 has facilitated health office staff to analyse and visualize health information that is used for decision making and advocacy. This community service activity supports the government’s efforts to provide one-stop data and contributes to strengthening health information systems both nationally and regionally.

Abstract

Most breast cancer patients in Indonesia experienced a delay in their diagnosis due to a lack of awareness and other factors. Female adolescents are the key population for an educational intervention to raise breast cancer awareness. This study assessed knowledge of breast cancer risk factors, signs, and symptoms, attitudes toward breast cancer prevention, barriers in breast cancer screening, and behavior regarding breast cancer awareness among female adolescents in Bandung using the Breast Cancer Awareness Scale – Indonesia (BCAS-I) instrument. Among 371 female high school and undergraduate students, 53.1% of them had limited knowledge about breast cancer risk factors, and 99.2% of these respondents had negative behaviors. However, most of them understood the early breast cancer signs and symptoms (89.8%) and had positive attitudes toward seeking health support (98.7%). Preference of health information sources and educational level are the significant factors for breast cancer awareness. Our initial assessment may provide the basis for further research and surveys on a larger scale to develop breast cancer prevention educational materials appropriate for young female populations.
