Abstract

Banks are a particular type of institution within the financial system that have influence on financial stability. Their readiness will determine the government’s policy, notably in an economic era of integration. In the case of South East Asia, there is the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) which facilitates economic integration to strengthen allthe member countries. This study aims to measure bank efficiency (conventional and shariah) in Indonesia, and also establish the transmission scheme based on the estimated result through financial stability issues confronting the AEC. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is used to estimate banking efficiency statically and dynamically (Malmquist Index). The result showed that technical efficiency of conventional banks is statically better than shariah banks. Meanwhile, dynamically, considering technological index, both types of banks have good results. The optimizing effort by each bank in order to increase their input utilization can be maintained through intensification of the financial program and making it more comprehensive. Subsequently, this effort hopefully can increase the number of financial participants. Eventually, increasing the number of participants will strengthen the financial stability of Indonesia.

Abstract

64 Bahari Cooperative, located in Kedung Cowek Sub-District, Kenjeran District, has a growing cooperative asset but the management is still having difficulty in preparing financial reports manually. The main agenda in this service program is to procure online-based Sharia cooperative accounting software for fishermen cooperatives. This can be done because the cooperative already has a laptop, most members already have an android mobile phone, and internet access is quite adequate because it is located in the Surabaya City area. In addition, online systems are considered cheaper than offline software because cooperatives do not need to incur server procurement costs that require large costs. Another advantage is that it can be accessed by members wherever and whenever. The result of this program is an increase in the ability of 64 Bahari Cooperative managers to make financial reports independently.

Abstract

The stock price is one indicator that represents the economic performance in a country. Changes in stock prices, including various factors, as an example, is the exchange rate changes as the representation from the foreign exchange market. The fluctuating exchange rate price also influences the volatility of the stock price. Furthermore, volatility has different high and low regime stages that will cause a disparate impact on the outcome of the relationship changes. This study aims to examine the presence of asymmetric volatility and its effects on the volatility of LQ45 stock returns, as well as the changes in exchange rates of Rupiah against USD from 1997 to 2017. Using the Augmented Markov Switching EGARCH  approach,  the  results  of  this  study  indicate  an  asymmetric  behavior  in  the  volatility  of LQ45 stock returns. High volatility regimes are more dependent and more unstable than low volatility regimes, and low volatility regimes dominate the duration compared to the high volatility regime. The good and bad news give different impact on LQ45 stock return volatility and exchange rate changes. Moreover, the unstable economies will respond faster than the stable economies in terms of facing the exchange rate changes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the attitudes of consumers towards Islamic and conventional credit cards. Using online questionnaire survey data from 51 respondents in Surabaya, East Java, the study revealed that most consumers possessed credit cards because of their convenience factor, relationship with their existing bank, and card salesmen. Therefore, the sale is the most powerful way to invite the community to have an Islamic credit card. Many customers do not care whether their credit cards are Islamic based or not, as long as the salesman promoted cards to them and the cards are able to meet their personal needs, especially for sales and purchase transactions online, they will utilize the cards. The large number of Muslims in Surabaya should be a share of the lucrative market for Islamic credit cards. Therefore, the education about the Islamic manner of consumption and the dangers of usury should be promoted in Surabaya.DOI: 10.15408/etk.v16i2.5519

Abstract

The paper attempts to explore the problems and roots of poverty, the poverty alleviation progress, programs and policies between selected Moslem populated-countries in Asia and selected non-Moslem populated-countries in Latin America. By conducting comparative analysis on statistical data, literature surveys, several journals, official reports and reliable research findings, all sources have been examined to construct comprehensive findings in the present article. Three important aspects are concluded. Firstly, by definition, a person who earns below 2,00 USD per day is considered “poor” according to the World Bank, and they are mostly living in rural areas and suburban slums. Second, poverty alleviation efforts in both particular groups of countries have resulted in a better outcome, whereby the number of poor decreased gradually according to statistical data reported by the World Bank. Other economic indicators such as GNI per capita and income inequality graphic have shown better patterns. Third, there have been different strategic policies and programs implemented between the two groups of countries. Islamic economic notions such as zakah, infaq, and sadaqah play a very significant role in Moslem populated countries, on the other hand, non Moslem populated countries tend to create more radical and creative strategies such as agendas of land reform and tourism industry development. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of financial deepening on economic growth in Indonesia. The time period studied for this research is from 1975 until2016. This study uses a quantitative research approach in the form of statistics and econometrics regression data. The data used is based on the annual time series data from 1975 until 2016. In this research, two models of testing are used, namely ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lag) and ECM (Error Correction Model). The results of this study indicate that financial deepening has a significant negative impact on economic growth in Indonesia. The Broad Money, Government Expenditure and Trade Openness variables influenced the variables of economic growth simultaneously in the period 1975-2016, but only the GDP and Trade openness variables had a significant influence on the dependent variable of GDP during the researched period. Therefore, Bank Indonesia (BI) needs to conduct further research on Broad Money trading (M2) so that the function of economic depth can encourage the growth of GDP Indonesia. In addition, there is a need for policies that will stimulate and facilitate foreign and domestic companies to sell their shares on BEI (Indonesian stock exchange) so that they can be traded by people whose impact will increase Indonesia's economic growth.
