Abstract

In the context of 21st century learning, to achieve meaningful learning processes, one of the important elements is interaction. Student response - based learning can be used to actively involve students in the learning process. The study focused on stages of the learning process based on student responses and student responses to the learning. Formulation of the research problem is following: (1) how are the stages of the learning process based on student responses to increasing student participation in learning ?; (2) how is the student response to student response based learning? The research objectives are: (1) increasing the active participation of students in learning through conditioning the learning environment; and (2) describing the steps of the student response-based learning process. The research conducted is a research development. Conclusion of the results of the study: first, the stages of the student response-based learning process (learning model syntax) are (a) uploading teaching materials; (b) Question Individual Vote; (c) Peer Discussion; (d) Second Vote; (e) Whole-class Discussion. These learning steps can increase student participation in learning. Second, students generally give positive responses to student response based learning. A positive response is given to the factor of the variable (a) explanation; (b) facilitation; (c) value; (d) positivity; (e) distraction; and (f) participation.

Abstract

Harmonious gender relations between men and women is needed to achieve gender equality and gender equity. The purpose of this article is to find out gender relations in engineering, especially mechanical engineering in metal casting. Relationships between male and female students and relations between male and female students and lecturers. The qualitative research is the Phenomenology technique. The informants in this study were 10 students with 4 men and 6 women and a lecturer in a Polytechnic Bandung. The results showed that the relation between male and female students did not make any difference in the process of theory and practice learning. The relationship between lecturers, male, and female students also established without any difference in the men and women gender in carrying out the task of theory and practice learning. A patriarchal culture that hinders interaction between men and women genders and lecturers who used to be attached to the engineering field has begun to disappear. The research development on gender relations in engineering must still be the focus of scientists research.

Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the capacity building needs of Agricultural Science teachers for innovative instructional delivery in secondary schools in Rivers State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design with a sample of 28 Agricultural Science teachers drawn through purposive sampling from a population of 244 teachers in secondary schools drawn from both Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas of Rivers State was used. Three research questions guided the study. A 20-item research instrument entitled “Capacity Building Needs of Agricultural Science Teachers Questionnaire (CBNASTQ)” was developed and used for the study. Likert 5-point mean rating scale was adopted. Cronbach’s Alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the CBNASTQ and a reliability coefficient of 0.81 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The study revealed amongst others that Agricultural Science teachers need to improve on the skills acquired through continuous professional development. Based on the findings, it was recommended amongst others that Government should ensure the continuous capacity building of teachers through the organization of workshops, seminars, symposia, and conferences to enable them to interact with one another and acquire new skills.

Abstract

The research aims to study the students' personal total quality at universities in Medan, Indonesia. The research method is a survey at four universities in Medan namely the State University of Medan, North Sumatra Muhammadiyah University, HKBP Nommensen, and the Islamic University of North Sumatra. The respondents amounted to 380 students who have been determined proportionally through random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.82. Results of the study found that 31.05% variable quality of students belong to the category of the personal total which is very high and 67.37% belong to a high category. However, there is 1:58% total quality of students classified categorized as low. The results were found to give instructions to the universities to keep working to improve students' personal total quality as the individual characteristics. The individual characteristics of students are very important to note the whether the increase due to the individual characteristics affects work motivation, performance, career development, and job satisfaction.

Abstract

Environmental awareness needs to be increased because it plays an important role for the survival of life. To find out the level of public awareness of the environment it is necessary to conduct a workshop or environmental awareness training. The purpose of this study is to identify and generate an instrument indicator to measure the environmental awareness. This article looks at a variety of relevant literature in order to explore the aspects that must be present In the instrument to measuring the environmental awareness level. The literature study results are obtained the aspects that must have to consist of two aspects namely pro-environment and not pro-environment, in which indicators are made from the start of knowledge, attitudes and behavior. The implication of this literature review is to provide information and recommend a set of a framework to academics in making instruments measuring the level of public awareness of the environment.

Abstract

Engineering family is such a scientific field that has to work as a unit without progress and development suffers in any society. Each engineering family cadre rests on the other to form a synergy upon which transformational strength is dependent as experienced in developed countries. However, in Nigeria there are myriads of challenges facing engineering profession, especially technical and vocational training institutions and their public acceptability, ranging from governmental to societal challenges thereby limiting its growth and development. In this work, the root challenges that confront engineering profession in terms of cadre structure imbalance are analyzed. The trend in terms of educational training mostly desired by individuals and the relative causes and effects are also reviewed. Overall, impact of these challenges on the society are x-rayed in terms of infrastructural and technological development, indigenous engineering professionals’ availability, and cadre structure imbalance. Solutions as to ways of correcting these identified anomalies, in order to bring about healthy and functional relationship among engineering cadres in Nigeria for the general development of the country are suggested in this work.

Abstract

The study investigated the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on Students’ Academic Achievement in Digital Electronics in Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers State, South-South, Nigeria. Quasi-experimental pre-test post-test control design was used in the study. The sample of the study comprised 84 Higher National Diploma (HND) final year students of electrical and electronic engineering (Telecommunications and electronics option). Three research questions and one hypothesis were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. The instrument used for data collection was a 20-item Digital Electronics Achievement Test Questionnaire (DEATQ) designed by the researcher and validated by two experts in electrical and electronic engineering from Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State. Kuder-Richardson formula was used to obtain the instrument’s reliability coefficient as 0.87. Mean and t-test were used to answer the research questions and test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed among others that problem-based learning enhances students’ academic achievement in Digital Electronics. Consequently, it was recommended among others that engineering technology lecturers in Nigerian polytechnics and universities should use more of PBL and other student-centred teaching strategies in instructional delivery in order to boost students’ achievement in technology-based courses.

Abstract

The development of science and technology, especially in the field of information and technology, has helped and supported progress in all fields, including education. Learning processes that utilize technology and information in providing vocational education or E-learning is an important part. E-learning provides flexible space and time benefits for educators and students. This research is a literature review to understand e-learning systems in learning, especially vocational learning, which has various challenges and aims to deal with specific and technical abilities in each specific vocational field. The literature search strategy uses the search for articles published in national and international scientific journals. The results of research on e-learning indicate that the e-learning method is beneficial for every student and is very effective because e-learning provides space, time and cost benefits for students and educators. In addition, various supporting tools in the assessment of affective, cognitive and psychomotor aspects are available. Even the soft skills needed by vocational education students can be facilitated through e-learning. Optimizing e-learning will have a good impact on vocational education in preparing graduates who are ready to work.

Abstract

The formative assessment has become a core component in teaching. The educator uses it to measure the effectiveness of learning in the classroom, and it provides information on the competencies of the students in addition to enhancing learning outcomes for the students. This study aims to investigate the vocational school teachers' perception and practices of formative assessment in the EFL classroom. This study used a qualitative research design approach. Two experienced teachers from vocational schools in central java, Indonesia participated in this study. The author collected the data from the participants using a semi-structured interview and analysed the data using descriptive qualitative method. The study result revealed that the participants have a very good understanding of formative assessment. They believed that it allows them to become more professional and the classroom assessment help students to focus more on learning materials. The teachers implement formative assessment practices regularly in their classroom.

Abstract

The first objective of this study was to determine the distance level of understanding of students and teachers in software majors at SMKN 1 Cisarua. And for the second purpose, the author wants to know the cause of students who excel or do not understand the yahoo material. The research method used is descriptive-based qualitative. The respondents consisted of 3 people, namely teachers, students who excel, and students who do not achieve. Structured interviews, new interviews, recorders, and test sheets were used as tools for collecting data. Each question posed to the respondent is compiled based on the performance criteria in the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards. The data analysis technique used is in the form of a proportion formula. The results show that the teacher understands better than students who excel and students who do not. Students who do not excel better understand than students who do not perform well. And one of the factors that cause students to understand the material is a discussion with upper-level students in the RPL department of SMKN 1 Cisarua. And one of the factors that cause students to be unable to understand the material is the discomfort of students using cell phones as a learning medium.
