Abstract

Job opportunities are considered as one of important targets in each phase of development process. Job opportunities are highly related to economic growth. The relation is expected to be positive, meaning that the higher the economic growth the more job available. Therefore it is important to ensure the high rate of economic growth. However, economic growth and job opportunities are not always in line, even though the economic growth is high job opportunities grow slower. Consequently, many workforces stay unemployed and increase poverty level. During 2001 – 2011 the economy of Bali grew 5.57 percent per year in average, but job opportunities only grew 3.36 percent. Job opportunity elasticity and ILOR are the methods that can be used to describe the effect of economic growth on job opportunities creation. In the period of 2001 – 2011 the job opportunity elasticity of Bali was less than one. This means that the capability of economic growth to create job opportunities is low. ILOR rate for the period in average was less than 10.000 persons. Thus in Bali poor people are still found, about 2.3 percent per year; income distribution is also imbalanced which is shown by the increasing Gini Ratios. The low creations of job opportunities in Bali are due to: (1) Bali economic growth is mainly supported by consumption expenditures; (2) distribution of the use of GDP is dominated by consumption expenditures (71 percent) while investment reaches only 27 percent; and (3) in each year regional budget always earns a surplus (called SiLPA) which reflects unproductive funds.

Abstract

Bali experienced a relatively rapid urbanization. This can be seen from an increasing proportion of the urbanpopulation during the last 30 years i.e. from 14.7 percent (the Population Census of 1980) to more than 60.0percent (the Population Census of 2010). In the future, the demographers estimate that the process of urbanizationin Indonesia is more likely due to the rural-urban migration. This estimate is based on the increasingly low naturalgrowth of urban population, the relatively slow pace of change in the status of rural into urban areas, and therelatively strong economic and development policies that tend to “urban bias”. The latter increase the attractivenessof urban areas for people who live in rural areas. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the occurrence of migration from rural to the urban areasin Bali. Data were collected from 300 sample respondents that distributed proportionally in each regency / city inaccordance with the proportion of the urban population in each region under studied. The samples of respondentswere urban people who came from rural areas outside Bali, or from the regencies of Bali who migrated within aperiod of 2010-2014. Samples were taken by accidental and descriptive data analysis with reference to the table offrequency distribution. The findings show that the main push factor in the area of origin that causes a person to take rural-urbanmigration, as many as 77.4 percent of respondents mentioned it was because of economic incentives, 17.3 percent dueto social factors, and 5.3 percent mentioned that the traditional custom practices in the area of origin are relativelyburdensome. While the pull factors in destination areas were similar, namely economic factors mentioned by 70.0percent of respondents, social factors expressed by 18.3 percent, and as many as 11.7 percent of respondents arguedthat the traditional custom practices are less burdensome in the urban areas.

Abstract

This research analyzes the Balinese youth?s perception on pre marital sex and pregnancy. The results of the research were analyzed through a descriptive interpretative approach in order to understand premarital sex and pregnancy. Based on the analysis, the conclusion are: there are communication problems in the family, so that the understanding of sexuality among youth is usually formed by sources outside the family. There?s no relation was found between premarital sex and social economic status of the family. In Bali, premarital pregnancy indicates the constant efforts of young people to challenge the status quo in Bali which places certain castes in a higher position than others. Therefore, the roles of many institution such as: school, government, non-governmental organization, and religious community (PHDI) should be increasing.

Abstract

The prevalance of iron deficiency is still high in Indonesia. Iron is an essentialcomponent of haemoglobin (essential of cell respiration/carrier of O2 and CO2),component several enzymes that play an important role in some metabolic processes.Iron deficiency causes a reduction in amount of enzymes, among others the enzymesakonitase, katalase, monoaminoksidase, mieloperoksidase, ribonukleotidil reduktase, suksinat dehirogenase, tirosin hidrolse, triptofan pirrolase dan xantin oksidase.Overcoming deficiencies in nutrition and controlling prevailing diseases producesstronger, more energetic workers, reduces to number of work days lost because of illness, lengthens the working life span and increases cognitive skills. The flow of earning isthereby increased above what it would have been in the abcence of improved nutritionand health. Many studies indicate measurable correlation between better nutrition, healthand higher productivity and better income, which have important functionalconsequences of public health, social and economic significance.

Abstract

The mobility of labor in informal sector is considerably high, that causes the labor force becoming easy to get into the sector so it is expected to be a platform between job opportunity and the unemployment. That phenomenon can be seen through the job opportunity that widely open as formal sector labor in Denpasar, especially which operates in traded sector. Most of the traders in informal sector run their business by building the “warung tenda”, and also by using the “gerobak dorong”. Location usually becomes a consideration in operating their business. The location which is a center of public activity becomes their main option, because the chance to earn money is greater. This study generally aims to determine the characteristic of food trader “gerobak dorong” in 4 (four) subdistricts in Denpasar. This study also aims to determine whether the income disparity exists in food trader “gerobak dorong” among the subdistricts in Denpasar. The result is expected to be a reference in informal sector making policy in Denpasar. In total of 100 respondents, most of food traders “gerobak dorong” are in range of age 35 to 44 years old (35 percent). In amount of 68 percent of the traders are from East Java, and 33 percent new respondents have been operating the business less than 5 years. The result of the analisys which is conducted by using Kruskall-Wallis method suggests that the average of income disparity of food trader “gerobak dorong” in four subdistricts in Denpasar is different. It is in line with the statement of this research background that says different location results in different income. Location determines their success in trading. The location which is a center of public activity becomes their main option, because the chance to earn money is greater.
