Abstract

The Open University is a higher education institute which applies a long distance learning system requiring the university students to learn independently. But, due to various factors, among others, their habit of depending on the information directly presented by the teacher, the majority of the university students have not yet been able to learn independently. One of the methods that can be used to cope with this problem is the tutorial learning pattern. Tutorial is one of the forms of service and learning guidance given to the university students in order to help them to achieve an optimal learning result through face-to-face tutorial, written tutorial, internet tutorial, radio tutorial, and computer-aided tutorial.  The tutorial process is guided by a tutor playing the roles of facilitator and motivator. The performance of a tutor affects the tutorial results very much. Based on the research result, it was known that the performance of the tutors of UPBJJ-UT Banjarmasin in 4 learning groups (pokjar) – namely those in the regencies of Tapin, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Utara, and Tabalong – toward the mastery of the materials had obtained the average score of 3.14 in the Good category.

Abstract

There are many on-line applications of CALL that can be used in the English language learning classrooms. These applications have a lot of advantages despite their barriers. Through the use of CALL, English learners are expected to be able to communicate across languages and cultures. It lets learners of a language communicate inexpensively with other learners or native speakers. Using CALL, teachers are not the only source of information any more, but act as facilitators. Moreover, students become active learners and they are encouraged to be explorers and creators of language rather than passive recipients. Therefore, this paper will review and discuss using internet in the classroom, in particular CALL, the benefits of employing CALL, the barriers that CALL presents in our language classroom, and the guidelines of using internet in the classroom.

Abstract

Abstract. This ex post facto study aimed to reveal the influence of divergent thinking skills, adversity quotient, attitudes toward mathematics, and perceptions of how mathematics teachers teach on learning outcomes and motivation to learn mathematics. The population of this study was all of eighth graders of Public Junior High School (SMPN) in the whole Sub District of North Wara, Palopo City. The sample was determined by cluster random sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires and tests. The research data were analyzed by using SPSS statistical data processing program. The results showed that divergent thinking skills, adversity quotient, attitudes toward mathematics, and perceptions of how mathematics teachers teach, together or partially, had a significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes and motivation to learn mathematics of Public Junior High School 8th graders in the whole District of North Wara, Palopo City. Keywords: Divergent Thinking skills, Adversity Quotient, Attitudes toward mathematics, Perception, Motivation, and mathematics learning outcomes. Abstrak.  Penelitian ex post facto ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pengaruh kemampuan  berpikir Divergen,  adversity quotient, sikap terhadap matematika, dan persepsi terhadap cara mengajar guru matematika terhadap hasil belajar dan motivasi belajar matematika. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMPN se-Kecamatan Wara Utara, Kota Palopo. Penentuan sampel dilakukan dengan cluster random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa angket dan tes. Data dianalisis menggunakan program pengolahan data statistik SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir divergen, adversity quotient, sikap terhadap matematika, dan persepsi tentang cara guru matematika mengajar secara bersama-sama maupun secara parsial berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap hasil dan motivasi belajar matematika pada siswa Kelas VIII SMPN se-Kecamatan Wara Utara, Kota Palopo. Kata Kunci: Berpikir divergen, adversity quotient, sikap, persepsi, motivasi, dan hasil belajar matematika.

Abstract

This research has four aims to describe: (1) the requirements of English teacher at SMA Islam Sabilal Muhtadin Banjarmasin, (2) the teaching materials used, (3) the media used in teaching, (4) the technique used by english teacher in teaching speaking skill, (5) the assessment carried out by English teacher.The design of the research belongs to descriptive research. The result of the observation, field notes, and interview are : (1) the requirements of English teacher at SMA Islam Sabilal Muhtadin Banjarmasin are good moslem, smart, responsible, polite, and creative,(2) The English teacher prepared everything needed in teaching by making lesson plan based on the syllabus, (3) the English teacher used media to support the process of teaching speaking skill, (4) the English teacher applied some techniques, (5) the English teacher assess the performance of students by watching their pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.

Abstract

This experimental research has objectives to find out the difference between the three-time-aweek training and the four-time-a-week training upon the result of tuck style long jump, and to find the difference of long term between high leg explosive and low leg explosive upon the result of tuck style long jump, and to figure out the interaction between the frequency of one-week training and leg explosive power upon the result of tuck style long jump. The result of the research in the first hypothesis testing indicated that there was a significantly different effect between the tree-time-a-week training frequency and the four-time-a-week training frequency on the result of tuck style long jump. The second hypothesis testing was that there was a significantly different effect between high leg explosive power and low leg explosive power upon the result of tuck style long jump. The third hypothesis testing was that there was a relationship between the a-week training frequently and the leg explosive to tuck style long jump.

Abstract

It is commonly believed that learning language is also understood as learning culture. This means that when somebody learns a new language, say for example, English, he or she will automatically also learn English culture. In some cases, this belief may be true. In other cases, however, the direction of learning language and culture is not always linear. A sentence produced by a language learner may linguistically and culturally be correct for the other learners of the same language background, but when it is spoken to someone else of different language background it might cause misunderstanding. This misunderstanding occurs not because of the words used in the sentence are weird or the grammar applied is violating the rule of English language system, but it is because of the utterance is not culturally accepted.  It is this difference of culture that causes such kind of  misunderstanding. To this phenomenon the teaching of literature is assumed to be able to minimize this misunderstanding.

Abstract

This article explores the school inspection framework and indicators of educational effectiveness used in the Netherlands and Indonesia. The Dutch inspectorate carries out school inspection in the form of periodical quality inspection in which schools are assessed through desk-research analysis. Meanwhile, Indonesia employs school accreditation boards and school inspectors to evaluate school quality through desk-analysis and visitation. Both countries apply rather similar indicators of educational effectiveness. The Netherlands uses in-depth content analysis, however,  Indonesia uses a rather broad one.

Abstract

Abstract.  This research aims to (1) know the student’s metacognitive charactersitics in solving chemistry problem, especially based on Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) and (2) identify the factors influence student’s SRL capability. Research design used in this research was one-shot case study with pre-test. The research sample was the 11th grade students of Science classroom chosen by purposive sampling method. The instruments were pre-test, post-test, and Metacognition Self Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). The data were collected by test, observation, dan questionnaire. Analysis method used descriptive analysis. The finding of this research showed that (1) the low metacognitive students show the such characteristics;  tend to explained problem unclearly, couldn’t formulate problem correctly, explained planning and monitor the strategy unclearly, could’t imlpement the strategy and and less detailed in explain evaluation result. On the contrary, the higher metacognitive students had the such characteristics like could explain the problem more clearly, could formulate the problem exactly, could explain planning and monitor the strategy more detailed, could implement the strategy properly, and could explained evaluation result more detail; (2) there are fourt main factors that influence student’s SRL capability, that are cognitive strategy, student’s intrinsic value, self-efficacy, and anxiety. Keywords: metacognitive skill, problem solving, SRL, colloid Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) karakteristik metakognisi siswa dalam memecahkan masalah kimia koloid berdasarkan Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) dan (2) mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa dalam penerapan model pembelajaran SRL. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah one-shot case study with pre-test. Sampel penelitian yaitu peserta didik kelas XI IPA yang ditentukan melalui metode purposive sampilng. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes, lembar observasi  dan kuesioner MSLQ. Analisis data menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) siswa yang metakognisinya rendah memiliki karakteristik seperti; kurang jelas mengungkapkan permasalahan, kurang tepat merumuskan rumusan masalah, kurang rinci mengungkapkan perencanaan, kurang rinci dalam pemantauan strategi, kurang mampu menerapkan strategi, dan kurang rinci mengungkapkan hasil evaluasi. Adapun siswa yang metakognisinya lebih tinggi memiliki karakteristik seperti mampu mengungkapkan permasalahan dengan jelas, mampu merumuskan masalah dengan tepat, mampu mengungkapkan perencanaan dan cara pemantauan strategi dengan rinci, mampu menerapkan strategi dengan baik, dan rinci dalam mampu mengungkapkan hasil evaluasi; (2) terdapat 4 faktor utama yang mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa dalam model pembelajaran SRL, yakni strategi kognitif, nilai intrinsik siswa, self-efficacy, dan kecemasan. Kata kunci: Keterampilan metakognisi, pemecahan masalah, SRL, koloid

Abstract

Abstract.  This school action research was intended to find out the  information about the application of the “APA” technique   to increase  the school administration staffs' ability in using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)  at SMP Negeri 7 Banjarmasin. The subjects of this research consisted of 4 school administration staffs. This research was conducted in two cycles with the four steps: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The quantitatif data of the competence achieved by the school administration staffs  was collected by scoring their works on each “Application Step” and also supported with the qualitatif data of the observation results collected through observation sheets. The result of this study showed that the application of the “APA technique was able to increase the school administration staffs’ability   in using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at SMP Negeri 7 Banjarmasin. Keywords: School administration staffs’ability,  Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), “APA” technique Abstrak. Penelitian tindakan sekolah ini bertujuan untuk  mendapatkan informasi tentang penerapan teknik "APA" dalam meningkatkan kemampuan tenaga administrasi sekolah dalam penggunaan TIK di SMP Negeri 7 Banjarmasin. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 7 Banjarmasin dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 4 orang tenaga administrasi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan 2 siklus dengan tahapan kegiatan mulai perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan/observasi dan refleksi. Data kuantitatif berupa  kemampuan tenaga administrasi sekolah dalam penggunaan TIK diperoleh dengan melakukan penskoran terhadap hasil kerja mereka pada tahap aplikasi dan didukung oleh data kualitatif dari hasil pengamatan yang dikumpulkan melalui lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik "APA" dapat  meningkatkan kemampuan tenaga adminstrasi sekolah dalam pnggunaan TIK di SMP Negeri 7 Banjarmasin. Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this study was to determine the project performance of students and improve the creative thinking skills of high school students after being taught project-based learning. The population in this study were all students of eleventh grade of State Senior High School 8 (SMAN 8) Samarinda in the academic year of 2018/2019. The samples taken were students of eleventh grade MIPA 1(n=36 students) and MIPA 2(n=36 students). This type of research was a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design. Data collection is done by using observation and written test techniques. The results of the analysis with a Mann Whitney test showed that there’s a significant differences between students’ creative thinking skills of the experimental class which applied project-based learning and the control class which applied conventional learning with the p-value 0.00. Generally, students’ creative thinking skills increased with N-Gain 0.6, middle category. The results of research on project performance amounted to 86.2 which is categorized as an excellent category. Keywords: project based learning, creative thinking skills, project performance Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kinerja proyek siswa dan peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kreatif siswa SMA setelah diajarkan pembelajaran berbasis proyek. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 8 Samarinda tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI MIPA 1(n = 36 Siswa)  dan XI MIPA 2 (n=36 Siswa). Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuasi-eksperimen dengan rancangan nonequivalent control group. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik observasi dan tes tertulis. Hasil analisis melalui uji Mann Whitney menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara keterampilan berpikir kreatif siswa kelas eksperimen yang diterapkan pembelajaran berbasis proyek dengan kelas kontrol yang diterapkan pembelajaran  konvesional dengan p-value 0,00. Rata-rata keterampilan berpikir kreatif siswa mengalami kenaikan dengan N-Gain 0,6; kategori sedang. Hasil penelitian kinerja proyek sebesar 86,2 yang termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik. Kata Kunci :  project based learning, keterampilan berpikir kreatif, kinerja proyek
