Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogenic bacteria that can infect both human and animal. This bacteria has undergone Multi Drug Resistance caused by irrational use of antibiotics. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to obtain antibacterial compounds from natural ingredients, one of them is from salak fruit peel (Salacca zalacca). This study aims to investigate the antibacterial activity of salak fruit peel extract in inhibiting the growth of P. aeruginosa in vitro. Salak fruit peel was extracted by maceration method using ethanol 96%. Concentrations of salak fruit peel extract used in this study were 5%, 10%, 20% and 30%. Disk containing chloramphenicol was used as positive control and aquadest was used as negative control. Antibacterial activity of salak fruit peel extract was conducted using Kirby-Bauer method. The data was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there were no inhibition zone was formed surrounding the disc containing salak fruit peel extract at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 20%. At concentration of 30%, the inhibition zone was formed with diameter 6.2 mm. It could be concluded that salak fruit extract at concentration less than 30% did not have antibacterial activity againts P. aeruginosa in vitro.

Abstract

The transportation of broiler chickens can cause stress to broiler chickens resulting in a decrease in body weight and high mortality. Stress causes disturbances, causing changes in the organs that make up the chicken body, one of which is the kidneys. This study aims to determine the effect of infusion of Dadap (Erythrina Subumbrans) leaves as an antioxidant in broiler chickens subjected to transport stress at 33°-35°C for 4 hours. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a 3x2x5 factorial pattern with three replications. The number of samples used were 30 broiler chickens which were divided into 5 treatment groups, namely P0: negative control; P1: positive control and given vitamin C 2 gram/L; P2: 1000 ppm of Dadap leaf infusion is given; P3: 2000 ppm of Dadap leaf infusion was given and P4: 3000 ppm of Dadap leaf infusion was given. In the eighth result, after being given transport stress treatment, the kidneys were taken and then histological preparations were made with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. Parameters observed were degeneration, necrosis and infiltration of inflammatory cells. Histological scoring data were then analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, if there was a significant difference followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that giving dadap leaf infusion to broiler chickens that were not given stress reduced necrosis (P<0,01) while stress-treated chickens reduced necrosis (P<0,01) and inflammatory cell infiltration (P<0,05). It was concluded that the administration of 10% dadap leaf infusion with a concentration of 2000 ppm and 3000 ppm could improve the histological picture of the kidneys of broiler chickens experiencing transport stress.

Abstract

Public consumption of chicken meat, especially broiler and duck, continues to increase. Various efforts have been taken by farmers to increase their production by increasing the quantity of their livestock and improving livestock management. The government has banned the use of antibiotics under Law no. 41 of 2014. The existence of this law needs to be evaluated on livestock products produced. This study aims to determine the presence of antibiotic residues and also to determine the level of awareness of farmers to antibiotic residues in broiler chicken and duck meat in the Selemadeg Timur Tabanan of ??Bali. This research is a descriptive study by detecting samples of chicken and duck meat using bioassays at BBVet Denpasar and by giving questionnaires to farmer. The number of samples was 10 samples of chicken meat, 2 samples of duck meat, and 15 samples kuesioner. Based on the results of the bioassay test, it was found that all samples were negative for residues of tetracycline antibiotics, aminoglycosides, macrolides, and penicillin. In addition, based on the results of questionnaire data, the level of public awareness of the use of antibiotics and the dangers of antibiotic residues in meat is very high. So that chicken meat in Selemadeg Timur ??Tabanan Bali is still said to be safe for consumption. However, there is still a need for supervision from the government and veterinarians regarding the use of antibiotics so that the quality of livestock products is maintained.

Abstract

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is often prescribed by veterinarian because it has anti-inflammatory effect. However, inappropriate consumed of meloxicam can cause serious effects on immune system. As a preventive action to increase immune system is to provide an immunostimulant. Dates are plants that contain active compounds that have an immunostimulant effect. This study aimed to determine the immunostimulant effect of Sukari Date Extract on male Wistar rats induced by toxic dose of meloxicam. The samples used in this study were 24 rats which were divided into 4 groups. The negative control group (K1) was the group that was given 1% NaCMC, the positive control group (K2) was the group that was given 1% NaCMC and meloxicam 30 mg/BW on the 11th day, treatment group 1 (P1) was the group that was given the extract. Sukari dates 500 mg/BW and meloxicam 30 mg/BW on the 11th day, and treatment group 2 (P2) were given 1000 mg/BW extract of Sukari dates and 30 mg/BW meloxicam on the 11th day. Blood sampling will be used to analyze total value of leukocytes and leukocyte differentiation was carried out on the 12th day. The test results showed that the dates extract at a dose of 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg could improve and neutralize the toxic dose of meloxicam with values ??for total leukocytes 8.15 103/µL and 8.22 103/µL, for lymphocytes 66.83% and 72.50%. , neutrophils were 15.33% and 23.67%, monocytes were 17.33% and 3.50%, respectively. Meanwhile, eosinophils and basophils had no effect, with values ??for eosinophils of 0.50% and 0.33%, respectively, for basophils 0.00% and 0.00%. Date extract has a good immunostimulant effect on total leukocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophils and monocytes, but on eosinophils and basophils it does not have a significant effect.

Abstract

Pigs are livestock that have relatively rapid growth and development, as a source of animal protein has a high economic value. However, raising pigs is often infected with the Hog cholera virus. Hog Cholera is characterized by sudden death with high morbidity and mortality. Disease control through vaccination has been carried out, but cases of disease still occur. The success of vaccination can be influenced by various factors, including: the vaccine factor, the implementer, and the animal factor. This study aims to determine the maternal antibody titer of piglets from sows who have been vaccinated against hog cholera. The study used 10 samples of piglets from sows that had been vaccinated. Serum samples were taken on days 7, 14, and 21. Antibody titers were checked using ELISA. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in maternal antibody titers (p<0.05) on the 14th and 21st days compared to the 7th day. There is a significant relationship (p<0.05) between age (days) and the value of optical density (OD) of maternal antibodies, the correlation coefficient is 0.852, with the equation Y=1.195e-0.021X. The conclusion is that the older the piglets are, the lower the OD value will be, but the longer the decline is, the smaller the decrease. At the age of 42 days, the maternal antibody OD value will reach 0.50, so it is feasible to be vaccinated.

Abstract

Cats as pets have their own charm because of their various body shapes, eyes and hair colors. However, cats are susceptible to disease, and even become a source of zoonoses for humans. There are several types of worm parasites that are often found in the digestive tract of cats such as Ancylostoma spp., Toxocara cati, Strongyloides spp. Dipylidium caninum and Spirometra which have high potential to cause zoonoses. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of infection and the relationship with several factors (race, sex, age and maintenance management) to gastrointestinal worms that have zoonotic potential in cats in Denpasar City. The number of samples used in this study was 100 samples of cat feces and the data were analyzed by chi-square test. Samples were examined using the floating concentration method, with a saturated NaCl flotation agent. The results of the study found that the prevalence of Ancylostoma spp. was 8%, Toxocara cati was 10% and there was a mixed infection between the two of 19%. So, the overall percentage is 37%. Meanwhile, it is also known that there is a relationship between maintenance management and the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminth infections in cats. On the other hand, there is no relationship between race, sex, and age as risk factors with the prevalence of gastrointestinal worms.
