Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of giving Ashitaba leaf herbal medicine (Angelica keiskei) which was given orally against the histopathological features of the small intestine of native chickens vaccinated with Avian influenza. The sample used in this study were 25 heads day old chicken native chickens, which were divided into 5 treatment groups. The first treatment was (P0) without being given ashitaba leaf herbal medicine but given aquadest, group (P1) was given ashitaba leaf herbal with a concentration of 50mg / head / day, (P2) at a dose of 100mg / head / day, group (P3) with a dose of 200mg / head / day, and (P4) at a dose of 400mg / head / day. The treatment is carried out every day for 14 days from day 8 to day 21 which is given orally by mixing drinking water and ashitaba leaf herbal powder until the volume is 100. ml. On the 21st day, all groups of chickens were vaccinated with the vaccine Avian influenza. On the 42nd day, the experimental native chicken was necropsed, then the small intestine was taken to see changes in the histopathological structure with Hematoxylin-Eosin ( HE) staiuning. The variables examined included hydrophic degeneration, inflammatory cell infiltration and necrosis. The data obtained was tested Kruskal-Wallis. Statistical test results obtained P-value hydrophic degeneration (P = 1,000), inflammatory cell infiltration (P = 0,833) and necrotic lesions (P = 0,983). The results of this study indicate that giving the ashitaba leaf herbal medicine (A. keiskei) with a dose range of 50 mg / head / day to a dose of 400 mg / head / day for 14 days had no significant effect on the histopathological picture of the small intestine of native chickens seen from hydrophic degeneration, inflammatory cell infiltration and necrosis.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the gross pathological and histopathological changes of the thymus, bursa of Fabricius, and spleen of bali ducks infected with newcastle disease virus or Avian orthoavulavirus 1 Tabanan-1/ARP/2017 isolate. This research used 15 male bali ducks aged one week. After the acclimatization period for two weeks and the measurement of ND antibody titer in duck serum showed results below 23 HI units, 10 ducks were infected with AOAV-1 Tabanan-1/ARP/2017 isolate at a dose of 0.5 ml/27 HA units intraocularly (P1) and 5 other ducks as the control (P0) were given 0.5 ml of phosphate buffered saline by the same route. Then necropsy was performed on the dead ducks and gross pathology examination was performed on its immune organs. That organs were processed and stained for Hematoxylin-Eosin, then performed histopathology examination. The results showed that infection with AOAV-1 Tabanan-1/ARP/2017 isolate in bali ducks could cause gross pathological changes in the form of necrotic foci lesions in the spleen and atrophy in the thymus. Meanwhile, the histopathological appearance showed severe depletion of lymphoid cells in the thymus and bursa of Fabricius, and mild lymphoid cell depletion in the spleen.

Abstract

The viscosity of cervical mucus is affected by the concentration of estrogen. This study aims to determine the relationship between the viscosity of cervical mucus with the concentration of estrogen in Aceh cattle in the success of mating. This study used four female Aceh cattle, aged 3-7 years and weighing 150-250 kg, had given birth, and had two regular estrus cycles. All aceh cattle were synchronized with PGF2? (dinoprost tromethamine inj., Lutalyse®, Zoetis US) by the two shoot method intramuscularly. Cervical mucus collection was performed by aspiration on the day of estrus. The cervical mucus viscosity measurement is done by looking at the spinnbarkeit value. Estrogen concentration was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA). The data obtained in this study were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. The results showed that the average viscosity of cervical mucus in Aceh was 11.8±4.6 cm, and the average concentration of estrogen in Aceh cattle during estrus was 106.5±15.8 pg/ml. The correlation between cervical mucus viscosity and estrogen concentration was 0.983. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the concentration of estrogen, the viscosity of cervical mucus will decrease so that the spinnbarkeit value will increase. It is necessary to conduct further studies related to the electrochemical characteristics of cervical and vaginal mucus during estrus including the value of ferning typology, electrical resistance vaginal mucus (ERVM), pH, sodium, magnesium, calcium and other cations that affect estrus performance in Aceh cattle.

Abstract

Abstract

Vaccination when the maternal antibody is high may cause neutralization of the antibody thus the immunity response is not most optimal. The measurement of titer antibodies after vaccination is an indicator to define success of the vaccination and it can be tested using the Hemagglutination Inhibition serology. This research aims to acknowledge until what age the titer antibodies shown seropositive on broilers which are vaccinated on the one-day-old hatchery. The data was obtained by random sampling from the broilers population which are taken 4 times on the day 7, day 14, day 21 and day 28. The data then is being analyzed using analysis method of variance, which is continued with regression analysis. The research result shows that broilers which have been vaccinated on the one-day-old hatchery only produce seropositive titer until 13 days old with 4.2 HI log 2 titer and began to decrease at 14 days of age with 3.9 HI log 2 titer. The conclusion of this study is that broilers vaccinated on one-day-old hatchery produced seropositive titers up to 13 days of age. Suggestions need to be given a booster vaccination at the age of 13 days in broilers vaccinated on the one-day-old hatchery.

Abstract

Dogs are one of the favorite animals that are kept by many people because they are considered intelligent and loyal animals. One of the main health problems of dogs is diarrhea caused by a bacterial infection. Shigella spp. is a pathogenic bacterium in the digestive tract of dogs. This study aims to isolate and identify Shigella spp. bacteria that cause diarrhea in dogs. Samples studied using rectal swabs in dogs showing clinical symptoms of diarrhea with a total of 48 samples from veterinary clinics in the city of Denpasar and its surroundings. Isolation of Shigella spp. was conducted on Eosin Methylene Blue Agar, Salmonella-Shigella Agar, and Sheep Blood Agar. Colonies that grew and separated on Salmonella-Shigella Agar medium were subjected to Gram staining, catalase test, oxidase test and continued with biochemical tests, namely Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Sulfid Indole Motility, Methyl Red Voges Proskauer, Simmons Citrate Agar, and test for sugars such as glucose, lactose, mannitol, and arabinose. The results showed that of the 48 isolated and identified samples, one sample showed a positive result for Shigella spp. with possibly the species Shigella dysentriae. It was concluded that one (2.08%) of Shigella spp. bacteria could be isolated and identified from 48 samples of dog rectal swabs that showed clinical symptoms of diarrhea. It is necessary to conduct further research on the level of pathogenicity of Shigella spp. bacteria and for further research, it is necessary to supplement the API 20E test to determine the Shigella species.

Abstract

The Bali duck is one of the original Indonesian germplasm whose distribution is endemic in Bali. This study aims to determine the anatomical structure, histology, and morphometry of the small intestine of Bali ducks at different ages. In this study, samples of the small intestine of Bali ducks aged 1 month, 3 months, and 5 months were used as many as 18 male Bali ducks. Bali ducks were obtained from one of the duck farms in Mengwi District, Badung Regency, Bali Province. Sampling of the small intestine was carried out in three parts, namely the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, then the organs were fixed with 10% NBF which was then made histological preparations with HE staining. The research results are presented in the form of qualitative and quantitative descriptive. The results showed that the anatomical structure of the small intestine, namely the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, had the same composition, boundaries and shape in ducks of different ages, while the histological structure of the small intestine, namely the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, was composed of four layers, namely the tunica mucosa, tunica submucosa. tunica muscularis and the outermost is the tunica serosa. Small intestine morphometry results in Balinese ducks at different ages had a significant difference at 1 and 3 months, 1 and 5 months, whereas in ducks at 3 and 5 months they were not so significant in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that there is no change in the anatomical structure in terms of composition, boundaries, and shape, while histologically , each Balinese duck small intestine is composed of four layers including the tunica mucosa, tunica submucosa, tunica serosa and serosa, while based on the results of intestinal morphometry fine bali ducks have significant differences in each age of bali ducks both in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, so it is necessary to do further research on female ducks and perform histomorphometry on each layer.

Abstract

Nematodes are among the most important class of worm parasites in poultry in terms of the number of species and the damage they cause. Common nematode worms that infect the digestive tract of chickens include: Capilaria spp, Tetrameres spp, Aquaria spp, Ascaridia galli, Strongyloides avium, and Heterakis gallinarum. Risk factors that influence the incidence of parasite infection are influenced by; host, parasites and environment. Host factors that most commonly affect the incidence of infection include: type, age, sex, while parasite factors that affect infection include: mode of transmission, viability (survival), pathogenicity and immunogenicity, as well as environmental factors that influence, especially: weather, enclosure sanitation and humidity. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of nematode grastrointestinal infection in laying hens in Tembuku Sub-district, Bangli District, Bali. The object of this study is feces from laying hens taken directly as many as 240 laying hens. The inspection method used is qualitatively using the floating method. The result showed that the prevalence of gastrointestinal nematode worm infection in laying hens was 9,17 %. The result of the data analysis showed that there was no relationship between the age of the laying hens and the prevalence of gastrointestinal nematode worn infection in laying hens reared in Peninjoan village, Tembuku Sub-district, Bangli district, Bali.
