Abstract

This study was intended to reveal the profile of students’ misconception of the concept of  dynamic electricity in one private university in Cirebon city. In the study of physics, the  misconception will hamper the achievement of physics learning goals. Misconceptions will greatly hinder the process of acceptance and assimilation of knowledge in students, so that they will hinder the success to learn more. It is necessary to conduct research on the analysis of misconception of mathematics teacher candidates on the concept of dynamic electricity. Misconception is defined as a student conception that is incompatible with the simplified conception of physicists. To identify misconceptions experienced by students, multiple-choice diagnostic tests equipped with a Certainty Response Index (CRI) can be conducted. The data obtained is then completed with interview data. This research is a descriptive research which is a research to give a description about phenomenon, or facts under study by describing the value of the variable without comparing. The study found that 81% of students’ have a misconception in the sub-chapter of electric current, and 50% in the concept of electric potential difference sub-chapter.

Abstract

Traditional Biotechnology Content as a Media in Engaging Students with System Thinking Skills. A study about how to engage students with System Thinking Skills as part of 21st century skills into Traditional Biotechnology content was conducted using Science-Technology-Religion-Engineering-Arts-Mathematics approach through one group pretest-posttest design. The study involved 43 students from 5th semester in one University determined purposively. Data were collected through system thinking test and interview format. After being collected through instruments mentioned before, data were then processed using percentage criterion n-gain on test and analyzed the result of student’s interview. Research results show 60.47% of n-gain (moderate) with the best achievement is in the ability to explain the function of each component, while the weakest achievement is in the ability to analyze the energy cycle. The result of the interview shows that the students are able to follow the lecture stages due to the repetitive and continuous assignment. The constraints found are in managing assignments within lecture time and less explored on religion aspects. Thus, Traditional Biotechnology content can facilitate students on system thinking skills.

Abstract

The existence of basic competence skills in the current national curriculum requires learners to have skilled expertise in the field of physics, which one of them is students’ science process skills. Students' science process skills become students’ guide in understanding physics concepts. The availability of resources and guidance in conducting practicum is very small, so teachers have difficulties when they want to conduct practicum in learning activities because of the lack of resources available. Therefore, we need a scientifically based practicum module to increase students’ science process skills. This development research using 4-D method (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). In the development of this module, the researchers only come to the third stage of the four stages. Validation results from experts get an average score of 81% interpretation which means that the module is included in the criteria worthy of use in learning even with the notes of experts to revise some of the components present in this module so that this module complies with existing standards. The results of the analysis of student responses to the practicum module obtained a total average of 80% with the category is "strong." This shows almost all the students gave a positive response to the scientific-based practicum module. The development of scientific-based practicum modules can improve science process skills of the students, with the average score of students’ science process skills before using a scientific-based practicum module of 2.54 and the average score of students’ science process skills after using a scientific-based practicum module of 3.20.

Abstract

Thyroid gland is essential in our body metabolism. Sometimes there are nodules on it, whether on palpation or unexpected finding from an ultrasound test. Based on thyroid function importance in metabolism, then not all thyroid nodule needs to be operated. This article aims to know thyroid nodule test for operation consideration. Total thyroidectomy patients need hormonal thyroid replacement in life. Voice hoarseness and calcium imbalance metabolism often occur post-thyroidectomy. Therefore, operation indication should be well determined by considering risks for every patient. We found that only aggressively grown nodule and cancer need to be operated as soon as possible. Otherwise, it should be observed routinely every 6 to 12 months.
