Abstract

Cage density, sanitation frequency, and cage type affect on animal wellbeing and cage environment thus the he- alth of goats. However, its benefits on animal’s health have not been well applied by farmers in Bali. This study was conducted from March until July 2021 to observe the effect of cage density on health variables of PE goats reared by farmers in Pempatan Village. A Compare Means T-test research design with two comparisons of 3 and 2.1 m2/ goat cage density with three replications using 90 goats used in this study. Parameters observed were FAMACHA© score, body weight, ADGW, endo-parasite, level of red and white blood cells of goats. Results showed the cage den- sities had significant differences only for Paramphistomum sp.; goats in cage density 3 m2/goat were not infected by, whereas goats in cage density 2.1 m2/goat got infected by 1.11 ± 0.76 EPG. Ostertagia sp., and Haemoncus contortus sp. infected goats in both densities, but were categorized as mild. The cage density 3 and 2.1 m2/goat had ADGW of 81.74 ± 32.01 g and 48.29 ± 25.51 g, respectively. Goats in this study had standard of healthy goats. In summary, goats in cage density 3 m2/goat tended having better health statuses.

Abstract

The native pasture of Insana sub-district produces potential forage but the long dry season limited the vegetative production. A study has been conducted to analyse forage production, botanical composition and carrying capacity of the native pasture on site of Gua Bitauni village at the end of dry season. The methods applied were survey, ob- servation and measurement on the spot. The forage production was measured using the Halls method, the botanical composition was analysed using a dry weight rank and carrying capacity was determined using the Voisin formula. The results showed that the fresh and the dry weights of the forage were 1.70 t/ha and 1.59 t/ha, respectively. The botanical composition comprised of grasses 84.64%, legumes 13.42%, and weeds 1.94%. Carrying capacity number was 0.71 AU/ha. As the pasture quality was low it was suggested to introduce legumes and other grass species that have strong roots and resistant to drought.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the response of the panelists to milk tofu with the use of a natural coagulation agent, namely young pineapple juice. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and four replications. Each replication using 1000 ml of cow milk, the four treatments were adding 30cc of pineapple juice (P1), adding 40cc of pineapple juice (P2), adding 50cc of pineapple juice (P3), and adding 60cc of pineapple juice (P4). The observed variables were the hedonic test for the level of preference and the sensory quality test, namely color, taste, scent, elasticity and overall acceptance. The results of this study indicated that the manufacture of milk tofu using natural coagulation ingredients of young pineapple juice (Ananas comosus) from all variables (color, taste, scent, elasticity, and overall acceptance) and each treatment (P1, P2, P3, P4) showed that the results were significantly different (P<0.05). The hedonic test value (preferred level) on color, taste, scent, and overall acceptance was highest in P1 with a sequential value of 4.12; 4.16; 4.08; and 3.88, while the highest value for elasticity was found at P3. The conclusion of this study can be suggested using 30 cc of young pineapple juice as a natural coagulation material in the manufacture of milk tofu because it produces milk tofu with a milky white color, the scent of cow milk, a slightly chewy texture, and a slight milk taste.

Abstract

Goat farmers generally do not realize the impact of flock size (FS) on the income resulted from their goat farm enterprises. The purpose of this study is to observe the impacts of FS i.e., FS1-10; FS11-20; FS21-30 on income, break-even point (BEP), and profit rate of etawah crossbred (PE) goat farm enterprises in Pempatan Village. A survey method used in this study was stratified purposive sampling procedure that was adopted to ensure the se- lection referred to PE breeders. Data were obtained through observation the goat cages of each farmer and with structured and unstructured interview techniques applying from October to December 2021. Data of the total costs, total income, profit rate, and BEP were analysed using financial analysis. Results showed the largest FS provided the largest annual total income IDR 44,990,000 ± 1,976,000. In contrast, the smallest FS provided the smallest amount of the annual total income IDR 5,601,000 ± 1,976,000. The Values of BEP production and price were 18 goats and IDR 1,212,200 ± 43,490/goat, respectively. Both values were smaller than the number of goats selling 30 ± 1 goats and the goat selling price IDR 1,800,000/goat in Pempatan Village annually. In summary, the PE goat farming enterprise was above the BEP providing profit rate 63.1 ± 3.7 %/year.
