Abstract

This community service was conducted in a livestock groups of Bali cattle, one of the livestock groups is locatedat Pengotan village. Their members are peoples of Pengotan village, Bangli Regency. They are mostly farmers whoare still having productive farm lands with very limited extensions. Nowadays, along with the care for their cattle, they usually give their cattle green forage from natural grasses. Usually, the farmers offered the cattle by ricestraws from their waste of rice harvest which is plentiful enough along the year. They are only do it if they are indifficulties of getting enough fresh natural forages. Due to this condition, therefore socialization and demonstrationhow to place of planting high forages feedstuff (leguminoseae and nonleguminoseae) by Three Forages StratumSystem (STS) for planting high quality of forages and practice of biofermentation technology for increasing the ricestraw which helps to raise digestion for the livestocks. With this community service program, the expected resultis the members of group have knowledge and comprehension that rice straw could be used as source of forageswhich could be stored within 3 to 4 months with a Microorganisms culture (EM-4) fermentation method. Fromthis program, the participants have got appropriate knowledge to increase 90% about Three Forages StratumSystem (STS) for planting high quality forages and leguminoseae threes. It is concluded that by using both thefermented rice straw and plantation of high quality of forages by Three Forages Stratum System (STS) the farmerwould not be in difficulties to obtain green forages sources for their cattle.

Abstract

This study was undertaken to establish a database as consideration for improving goat production in TabananRegency. A survey was conducted from April to September 2018 on 38 smallholder goat farmers integrated withcommodity plantations, owning 142 goats. Data were used to measure constraints to, challenges of, and opportunitiesfor improving goat production, through a hybrid method of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats andAnalytic Hierarchy Process analyses. Problem priority faced was the competition between average numbers of 2.0± 0.1 family labourers aged 38.8 ± 2.1 years who cultivated average 0.9 ± 0.1 hectare of commodity plantationsintegrated with flock size of 2.5 ± 0.2 goats per household. Goats were housed in battery systems and fed forage.About 33% farmers had just sold all or portion of their goats due to the busy activity of clove and coffee harvestingin July-September and time consuming for cut and carry forage while commercial concentrates were not given totheir goats. Recommendation taken was to providing Pennisetum purpureum silage as sustainable feed resource forgoats thus improved the nutritious content of feed particularly during dry season where feed was limited or duringharvesting and Bali Hindu ceremonies where family labourer was limited.

Abstract

Every dairy farm should keep records of bloodlines, pests, disease, feed types and consumption. These records help preventing inbreeding, control pests and disease and provide the best feed for optimum performance. Howe- ver, smallholder dairy farmers in Indonesia pay less attention on the benefits of recordings. The purpose of this study is to analyse the reproductive and productive performance recorded of the productivity of FH cattle at Sum- berbulu Dairy Farm. An ex-post facto Comparative Causal method was used, where data were obtained by observa- tions, interviewed the owner, and recorded all available archives from December 2021 to January 2022 supporting the data analysis. Data of reproductive and productive performance were analysed by using simple descriptive anal- ysis. The results showed their S/C, days open, gestation period, and calving interval were 2.15 ± 0.28 times, 113.68 ± 18.05 days, 280.10 ± 2.41 days, and 393.33 ± 15.27 days, respectively. The total milk production 3.411.8 ± 170.03 kg/cow/lactation, MPPA 3.946 ± 42.24 kg/lactation, length of lactation period 270.03 ± 14.24 days, and length of dry period 94.24 ± 7.98 days. The reproductive and productive performance of FH dairy cows reared at Sumberbulu Dairy Farm were in ideal standard of FH cows reared in tropical areas.

Abstract

Goat farmers generally do not realize the impact of flock size (FS) on the income resulted from their goat farm enterprises. The purpose of this study is to observe the impacts of FS i.e., FS1-10; FS11-20; FS21-30 on income, break-even point (BEP), and profit rate of etawah crossbred (PE) goat farm enterprises in Pempatan Village. A survey method used in this study was stratified purposive sampling procedure that was adopted to ensure the se- lection referred to PE breeders. Data were obtained through observation the goat cages of each farmer and with structured and unstructured interview techniques applying from October to December 2021. Data of the total costs, total income, profit rate, and BEP were analysed using financial analysis. Results showed the largest FS provided the largest annual total income IDR 44,990,000 ± 1,976,000. In contrast, the smallest FS provided the smallest amount of the annual total income IDR 5,601,000 ± 1,976,000. The Values of BEP production and price were 18 goats and IDR 1,212,200 ± 43,490/goat, respectively. Both values were smaller than the number of goats selling 30 ± 1 goats and the goat selling price IDR 1,800,000/goat in Pempatan Village annually. In summary, the PE goat farming enterprise was above the BEP providing profit rate 63.1 ± 3.7 %/year.
