Abstract

In recent years, there has been a growing debate about the future of globalization, with some calling for a reevaluation of its principles and practices. Issues such as income inequality, people’s welfare, and the impact on local communities have prompted discussions on how to make globalization more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable. In this study, there are three topics that will be discussed. First, this study will analyze the impact of economic globalization measured by foreign direct investment on people’s welfare and gender equality. Second, this study will analyze the impact of social globalization measured by the proportion of individuals with mobile phones and the number of foreign guests at star-rated hotels on people’s welfare and gender equality. Third, this study will analyze the impact of gender equality on people's welfare. This research used data from 34 provinces in Indonesia for the period of 2015-2021, which was sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The data analysis methods employed in this research are Panel Least Squares and Panel Cross-Section Random Effects. This research discovered both positive and negative impacts of globalization. On the positive side, social globalization manifested through increased mobile phone ownership, exhibited a beneficial impact on the human development index, life expectancy, and gender equality. Gender equality also has a positive impact on human development index and life expectancy. On the negative side, foreign direct investment has failed to yield a positive impact on welfare. Furthermore, the presence of foreign tourists staying in star-rated hotels has a negative impact on life expectancy and gender equality.

Abstract

Abstract

Poverty and households’ economic fragility have been a concern among Indonesian, and the government has addressed this issue by granting a cash assistance program. There will be some effects related to the program. Therefore, this study identifies the effect of cash assistance program on consumption changes among Indonesian as the measurement for public welfare. This paper can be a reference to determine the nexus between transfers and attempting to improve public welfare. This study used Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) as longitudinal datal, and controlled the respondent’s characteristics and adopted the fixed effect at the village level as an estimation technique. The results reveal that, generally, there was a decline in food expenditure that is followed by changing consumption behavior among Indonesian, and the cash assistance program has contributed remarkably to this change. The finding also notes that the objectives of the cash assistance program have not been appropriately achieved as predicted. JEL Classification: H24, I38, O21

Abstract

The gerinsing weaving (tenun gerinsing) craft industry is a culture-based creative industry that has its own values ??and characteristics as a local cultural heritage. It can also link traditional knowledge with innovation and creativity which is considered important for a number of developing countries because it has economic potential and has an impact on economic development. Karangasem as one of the regencies in Bali which is full of culture-based woven crafts industries such as geringsing woven fabrics. There are many stakeholders who care about and have an interest in the sustainability of the gringsing weaving industry. The existence of uncertainty also cannot be ruled out to maintain its sustainability. The objectives to be achieved in this study are: 1) to determine the probability scenario of grinsing weaving sustainability; 2) to determine the sensitivity of scenarios driving the sustainability of grinsing weaving in Tenganan Pegringsingan Village, Karangasem. Primary data were obtained from respondents through distributing questionnaires to craftsmen, consumers and stakeholders. The distribution of this questionnaire is a survey to obtain data as a comparison of the results of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with experts who will later determine the probability scenario of sustainability. The prospective analysis used in this study is the SMIC-Prob analysis. ResultsThe analysis shows that of the four (4) scenarios formulated as a result of the FGD with experts, there is a combination of scenarios with the highest conditional opportunity, namely the 1101 combination, which means that the scenario of craftsmen producing as usual, apart from producing, also side comersial, and reducing production is the best combination with probability 0.124. While the sensitivity of the scenario is shown with the highest elasticity results in the increase scenario (increasing production) of 1.422, which is heavily influenced by the scenario of continuing to produce as usual of -0.624, which means that every 100% increase in the chance of producing as usual will reduce the chance of craftsmen increasing production by as much as 62.4 percent.

Abstract

Prosperity provides opportunities for households to achieve economic resilience. Economic resilience is a condition and ability to recover and rise from problems in economic aspects. The welfare condition of women in freelance daily labor households in Tiyingtali Village has not been able to reflect the economic resilience of households. This research reveals the motivation and role of women in Tiyingtali Village who work as casual daily laborers in the household to achieve prosperity and economic resilience. By using a qualitative approach, these two problems become a complex thing to discuss. Through qualitative analysis with stages: 1) data collection; 2) Data reduction; 3) Presentation of data; 4) Conclusion drawing/Verification, the welfare and economic resilience problems of women's freelance daily laborer households can be explained. To ensure the validity of the research data obtained, triangulation of sources is then carried out. Research findings show that "Gunakaya" (fighting spirit to have wealth alone or with husband) is a motivation. This motivation leads to the condition of a prosperous family. Not having savings for supplies, makes for a lack of household economic resilience. The inability of freelance daily working women to set aside their income makes it an obstacle to realizing household economic resilience. Efforts to fulfill the household economy of husband and wife must help each other to create economic resilience.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of the visa exemption policy on Indonesia’s exports, by using Staggered Difference in Difference (DID) method and Indonesia's export data to 191 partner countries in 2015 - 2019 period. This study finds that visa exemption policy of Indonesia has effect on its export, but it is not "one size fits all". A significant positive effect was generated by visa-exemption received by American region, and a significant negative effect on exports was generated by visa exemption received by Oceania region. American region is one of the priority recipients of visa exemption policy of Indonesia, and provides the most visa exemption to Indonesia after the Asian region. Meanwhile, Oceania is the most restricted region in terms of visa exemption policy both unilaterally or reciprocally with Indonesia. Abstract

The idea of ??a green economy does not replace sustainable development, but creates a new focus on the economy, investment, capital and infrastructure, jobs and skills as well as positive social and environmental outcomes. The green economy is closely related to SDGs No. 13, climate action, but, even further, this concept directs attention to the quality of life with people at the center. This research tries to see the impact of the development of inclusive green growth in several countries on the welfare of their people. Inclusive green growth prioritizes planetary and human health, and considers them interrelated. Prioritization and implementation of green initiatives also helps countries achieve various sustainable development goals. The hypothesis tested is that countries that implement inclusive green growth in their development policies will have a strong correlation with community welfare, governance of government institutions, and economic openness in the context of international trade. The results of data analysis show that inclusive green growth has a positive and insignificant effect on economic openness in various countries. Government institutional governance has a positive and insignificant effect on economic openness in various countries. Inclusive green growth has a positive and significant effect on the welfare of society in various countries. The governance of government institutions has a negative and insignificant effect on the welfare of society in various countries. Economic openness has a positive and significant effect on the welfare of society in various countries. Inclusive green growth does not have an indirect effect on the welfare of society in various countries. The governance of government institutions does not indirectly influence the welfare of society in various countries.

Abstract

Human development has become an imperative for Indonesia amid the ongoing demographic bonus. However, various challenges persist in the realm of human development in the country, as evidenced by disparitie?s in Human Development Index (HDI) achievements. This research aims to project Indonesia's HDI for the years 2023, 2024, 2035, and the "Golden Indonesia" period in 2045 to discern the developmental trajectory of HDI and its disparities. Additionally, it seeks to measure the convergence of Indonesia's HDI to attain equitable development. The results of the trend projection estimations indicate that Indonesia's HDI is projected to be 73.74 in 2023 and 74.28 in 2024, which is anticipated to fall below the target set by the government, aiming for an HDI of 75.54 in 2024. Indonesia's HDI is projected to reach 80.22 in 2035 and 85.62 in 2045, categorizing it as 'Very High,' aligning with the vision for the Golden Indonesia in 2045. Furthermore, conditional convergence analysis results indicate that it would take 75 years for provinces with lower HDI to catch up with those with higher HDI, achieving zero inequality. Based on the estimation results, it is found that Per Capita Spending on Educational Functions is a significant variable influencing HDI convergence.
