Abstract

This study explores the application of chakra philosophy in business management practices. Chakras, defined as energy centers within the human body, are intricately linked with daily human dynamics and spiritual consciousness. The aim of this study is to integrate chakra principles into managerial processes and assess their impact on emotional and spiritual intelligence, performance, accountability, and business sustainability. A qualitative approach was adopted for this study, focusing on four chief executive officers as research subjects. Data collection was conducted using triangulation techniques, including document analysis and semi-structured interviews. The results indicate that the implementation of chakra philosophy by chief executives contributes to the stability of emotional and spiritual intelligence. This, in turn, enhances performance, accountability, and the sustainability of the business. This research contributes a novel perspective by elaborating on the application of chakra philosophy in business management. It offers a new approach to managing and sustaining a company by considering individual management aspects and organizational culture.

Abstract

This ethnographic study delves into the Mbelu’ Pandang tradition, a unique cultural practice held in Labuan Kertasari Village, West Sumbawa, Indonesia. This tradition, which originated from the Selayar tribe, involves intricate rituals such as the rolling of pandan leaves and the slicing of pandanus, performed during the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. The study aimed to explore the historical roots, philosophical meanings, and contemporary significance of the Mbelu’ Pandang tradition, emphasizing its socio-cultural and religious values. Data was collected over three months using participant observation, in-depth interviews with 13 key informants, including village elders, religious, and community leaders, and qualitative content analysis was employed to interpret the findings. Results indicate that the tradition serves multiple functions: fostering community cohesion, acting as a conduit for religious expression, and reinforcing cultural identity among the villagers. It also highlights the efforts to preserve this tradition through local festivals and community-based initiatives, which sustain cultural heritage and promote regional tourism. The study contributes to understanding the dynamics of cultural preservation within minority tribes and offers insights into the complex interplay between tradition, religion, and modernity in rural Indonesia.

Abstract

Zakat, which is supposed to be for the alleviation of poverty, has actually been a source of problems because of the fact that the distribution has not been in line with its objectives. This current study addresses the inequality in the distribution of zakat to impoverished urban. The distribution of zakat is one of the substantial instruments for the Islamic financial ecosystem to alleviate poverty. The distribution of zakat aims to cater to impoverished communities’ needs and provide financial protection. This study relays on a descriptive qualitative research design where data were obtained through interviews and literature study. The data is used to analyse the concept of inequality in relation to poverty as a result of the unequal distribution of zakat. The results of this study indicate that the distribution of zakat is personally and unequally distributed. The unequal distribution of zakat impacts the welfare of people experiencing poverty due to inequality in selecting zakat recipients. Not merely that, zakat, which is relatively small and temporary, cannot support the productive ability of people with low incomes to achieve prosperity. Therefore, it is necessary to assert the prioritized distribution of zakat.

Abstract

This article objectives explore the main challenges of Indonesian democracy after the 2019 presidential election, namely the revival Islamic conservatism and populism, which seem to have seamlessly integrated into the Indonesian political praxis. This article to the authors attempt to the Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama response rise the conservatism and Islamic populism contextualizing the contemporary democratic politics in Indonesia. This article uses a qualitative writing method by taking data from articles written by previous authors from journals that have been published according to the topic of this article after the 2019 election took place. The issue of conservatism, and Islamic populism will continue to develop if the moderate Islamic forces of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) do not rise to the occasion in Indonesia’s political and religious life. After all, the country’s democratic life depends invariably on the maintenance of civility and the non-discriminative nature of the Islamic agenda held dearly by the two influential organizations. Should the moderate forces of Indonesian Islam weaken, then conservatism and populism would no doubt prevail. This article objectives explores the main challenges of Indonesian democracy after the 2019 presidential election, namely the revival Islamic conservatism and populism, which seem to have seamlessly integrated into the Indonesian political praxis. Conservatism and populism in Indonesian politics nothing useful in grassroots but only in the political elite. In this article objectives to the authors attempt to the Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama response rise the conservatism and Islamic populism contextualizing the contemporary democratic politics in Indonesia. This study recommends that the study of Islamic populism in relation to Indonesian politics after the 2019 election be an expanded study in terms of network and actor issues. So that a new role was found that contributed to the populism movement in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Akang Arfan Abdullah Syafi'i's interpretation of Sufism within the Judatul Uqba Pesantren in Sukabumi, West Java. The research focuses on how Syafi'i's Sufism has resonated with and attracted a significant following among the local community, encouraging them to engage deeply with Sufi practices in their daily lives. This phenomenon is evidenced by the extensive participation in Sufi recitations and the growth of the Yā Wakῑl congregation across Indonesia. Employing a qualitative descriptive methodology, the study gathers data through observation, interviews, and documentary analysis. Central to Syafi'i's teaching is the concept of 'wushūl'—a spiritual connection to Allah SWT, facilitated through 'dzikr' (remembrance of Allah) and acts of charity. These practices are seen as dual pathways: 'dzikr' connects an individual to Allah (habl min Allah), while charity fosters interpersonal bonds (habl min an-Nās). The balance between these spiritual and social dimensions is posited as crucial for the cultivation of Islamic virtues and the attainment of the 'insān kāmil' or the perfect human being.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Civil Islam within the context of identity politics in Indonesia and Malaysia, focusing on its impact on the democratization process and public policy formulation in both countries. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research gathers data from primary and secondary sources to analyze how Civil Islam, through its interactions with the state and society, influences and is shaped by local political dynamics. The findings indicate that Civil Islam in Indonesia and Malaysia plays a crucial role in strengthening democracy through active participation in identity politics, directly responding to socio-political challenges emerging in the post-reform era. In Indonesia, the movement contributes to the consolidation of Pancasila as the foundational national ideology, while in Malaysia, it strives to harmonize ethnic and religious differences within a constitutional democracy framework. This study enriches our understanding of Islamic social movements not only as responses to social injustices but also as significant actors in the formulation and implementation of inclusive national ideologies. The findings have important implications for policymakers and social activists in designing strategies that promote social integration and political stability in culturally diverse regions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore pertinent philosophical approaches in order to analyze the primary dilemma associated with theological beliefs, which impede the efficacy of religious moderation within the Indonesian context. Consequently, the study endeavors to fortify the framework of religious moderation policies. By anchoring arguments and research within this philosophical paradigm, the author endeavors to establish a robust theoretical underpinning that substantiates the integration of faith and reason in the realm of religious moderation. The chosen methodology for this research comprises a comprehensive literature review, entailing the systematic gathering and analysis of diverse primary and secondary sources. Primary sources encompass relevant scholarly writings that directly address the subject of religious moderation, while secondary sources encompass a compendium of academic works, including books, journals, articles, and papers that specifically delve into the intricacies of this subject matter. The findings of this study demonstrate that the practice of religious moderation is frequently impeded by the exclusivity inherent in theological truths, which undermines the rationality of human actions. Therefore, a resolution between faith and reason is imperative to surmount this quandary, particularly through the facilitation and engagement in interfaith dialogues, the promotion of inclusive theological education, the cultivation of critical and rational thinking, the accentuation of universal moral values and religious virtues, the deepening of hermeneutics and moderation in interpretations, the distancing from identity politics, the spotlighting of spiritual experiences in religious praxis, and the emphasis on the fundamental right to freedom of religion.

Abstract

This study delves into the philosophical and epistemological interpretation of the Heart Sutra, emphasizing the conjunction between rational and mystical thought processes. The paper illustrates how the Sutra promotes an intertwined understanding of reality through textual analysis and comparative discussion involving Eastern and Western philosophical perspectives. The exploration reveals that the Heart Sutra serves as a profound guide, advocating for a balanced comprehension that integrates empirical rationality and mystical insight. The findings suggest that the notion of 'Shunyata' or emptiness encapsulates a complex relational understanding of being, where rational knowledge and mystical experiences are not only coexistent but mutually inclusive. This conjunctive approach challenges the conventional boundaries of epistemic thought and offers a comprehensive framework for understanding reality's multifaceted nature. This research contributes to the broader discourse on integrating traditional philosophical insights with contemporary epistemological frameworks, enriching both academic and practical understanding of spiritual texts.

Abstract

The Igbo people of Nigeria have historically maintained a rich and dynamic spiritual tradition. The advent of Christianity introduced new dimensions to their spiritual landscape, leading to significant shifts in religious beliefs and practices. This study aims to explore the complexities and transformations in the Igbo spiritual landscape following the encounter with Christianity. It seeks to understand how the Igbo people navigate the coexistence of indigenous spirituality and Christian beliefs, and the resultant socio-cultural and religious dynamics. Employing a literature review and historical analysis, this study systematically examines scholarly works and historical records to unravel the complex interplay between Igbo indigenous spirituality and Christianity. The study found that the Igbo's flexibility in spiritual choices facilitated their rapid conversion to Christianity, influenced by practical advantages such as effective medicine, economic benefits, and efficient foreign social structures. However, this transition also entailed a mental shift, marked by the perception of the Christian God's superiority following military defeats against foreigners. The study highlights the intricate interplay between indigenous spiritualities and Christianity within the Igbo context. It underscores the role of practical factors, cultural adaptation, and perceived spiritual efficacy in shaping religious transformations. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of religious syncretism and the evolving nature of spiritual beliefs in multi-religious societies.
