Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the reflection of the global capitalism system in Suzanne Collins’s novel The Hunger Games. This research also explains on how the influences between The Hunger Games with the portrait of the global capitalism in the world. The research uses qualitative descriptive methods trough sociology of literature theory. It focuses on the relation of intrinsic elements in the literary works with the reality aspect from the society. The data constitute both primary and supporting data. The primary data was taken from the novel itself The Hunger Games, while supporting data are taken from books, theses, journal and articles from internet which related to the topic of the research. The result of research shows that The Hunger Games novel represented the global capitalism system in many ways. The differences between Capitol and all districts considered as the symbol of capitalism system where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The government of Panem which stayed in Capitol can be easily to control and dictated the people across the countryside. The global capitalism system in the novel reflected through the way of government of Panem control the economic side, market value, and political side.

Abstract

The title of this research is the text structure of French online media in the newsof Islamic Stateof Iraq and Syam (ISIS). The aim of this research is to analyse the structure of the French onlinemedia texts to obtain an overview of the macrostructure, the superstructure and themicrostructure of the text which could define ideology differences from each French onlineMedias.To answer several problems of this research, the methods of descriptive qualitative is applied,based on critacal discourse analysis theory of Teun A van Dijk which divide the text structureinto three levels; macrostructure, superstructure and microstructure. The conclusion of thisresearch is that each French online media construct the discourse of ISIS with different ways ofinterpretation based on their ideology which appears clearly in the difference of news text ineach level of structure text.Keywords: macrostructure, superstructure, microstructure, ideology, interpretation

Abstract

The title of this research is The Poliamori Behaviour in “Detruire Dit-Elle“ Novel byMarguerite Duras. This research analyze about the poliamori behaviour by the characters.The aim of this research are to describe and explain the poliamori relationship betweenAlissa, Max Thor and Stein in “Detruire dit-elle” novel. Alissa is the wife of Max Thorhas the romantic relationship with Stein. However, Max Thor is not questioning thatrelationship and accept it. The research uses the characterization theory and love theoryFromm.In this research, the writer explains about the important characters in the novel. Then, thewriter sorts the events which are considered as the poliamori behaviour by the characters.The last, the writer analyzes the data and features the erotic love affair by which is doneby third character.The result of this research shows that Alissa, Max Thor and Stein are done thepoliamori relationship based on the love concept that is classified as a care attitude(attention) intimacy and physical closeness factors.Keys Words: behavior, polyamory, character, love

Abstract

Nowadays, the television programs in the form of reality show begin to emerge in our national television. By visualizing everyday life of ordinary people as ―real‖ in camera, reality show gained attention of its spectator. One of the interesting reality shows in Indonesia is Inspektur Igun. Inspector Igun, conducting as a fashion police, get directly into ―the reality‖ of people, such in mall, in market, in store-house, and so on, and perform inspection to the fashion style of people. Due to some supervised and disciplinary practices, the inspector change the uncivilized individu into the modern and civilized one in clothing.Using the panopticon of Foucauldian approach, this article aims to deconstruct the practices of discourse which tends to form the individu, to become obedient to ruling discourse. Through fashion, reality show becomes a panoptic mechanism in supervising and controlling activity of clothing in society in order to bear the identity of modern individu, an identity which become both marker of modernity andreligiousity, which is constructed through fashion.Keywords: Reality Show, Fashion, Panopticon, Normalization, Identity

Abstract

This journal discusses about Rationlists and Rationalism viewed from historical perspective.Philosiphical thinking of modern age according to wetern version consists of three periods, i.e. ancientage, middle age, and modern age. Rasionalism is pioneered by Descartes from Paris, so he is calledthe Father of Modern Philosophy. The development of science as the characteristics of modern societyis Rationalism. This school prioritizes ratio to reveal truth. The early founder of rationalism isHeraclitus who believes that ratio is more superior than five senses. The further developmenthappened from 17th century to 18th century. The appearance of rationalism is the willingness ofrationalists to free themselves from scholastic thinking. The figures of rationalists are Rene Descartes( 1596-1650 ), Nicholas Malerbranche (1638-1775), Baruch de Spinoza (1632-1677), (G.W. Abstract

In general, language teaching shifted from old method to modern one. The old method tended toplace more emphasis on the mastery of the rules of language or grammar rather than to thefunction of language as the primary means of communication for mankind. The implications ofthe method and / or the old approach was the birth of a second language learner or a foreignlanguage that is very capable in using the rules of the language but lacking even incompetent interms of communicating using the language. This reality motivated language teaching experts toswitch to a more functional approach thus was born the so-called communicative approach, theapproach in language teaching that requires students to use the language to the maximum duringthe learning process, although the rules of the language tend to 'negligible'. Real form of thecommunicative approach is the interaction established during the learning process by using thelanguage being studied. The interaction was not only between teachers and students (two waycommunication) but also between teachers and students and among students (multi-directional).Only the implementation of this approach is not without drawbacks, namely the birth of languagelearners who are able to communicate verbally very eloquent invitation but is hampered whendealing with tasks that require them created especially writing scholarly writings.Both of the above realities spawned the emergence approach called integrated approach, namelythe teaching of grammar rules of a language by using the language communicatively - interactiveduring the learning process. Although this approach is also not free from the possibility of thebirth of various constraints, such as the design of instructional materials that require specialexpertise and impeccable, setting and classroom management is also one of the considerationsthat can not be ruled out.Key words: Teaching English, communicative interactions.

Abstract

The ability to read in English as a foreign language is very important for senior high school because it will affect their productive skills such as writing and speaking. The objective of this research was to present the profiles of metacognitive reading strategies of successful and unsuccessful EFL learners of high school at SMA Negeri 1 Pamboang. The address of reading strategies is expected to provide useful information both for students and teachers secondary school. At least, the information about strategies can improve the quality of education especially in teaching reading as a core subject. The current study reports an investigation of EFL learners profiles of metacognitive reading strategies in Indonesian context. This exploratory paradigm was an attempt to reveal what level of metacognitive awareness of both successful and unsuccessful learners at the senior high school level. The study was carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Pamboang, Majene Regency and employed quantitative and qualitative methods. Using purposive sampling method, seventy-two (72) EFL learners filled in the MARSI questionnaire (Metacognitive Awareness Reading Strategy Inventory) by Mokhtari & Reichard (2002) to deal with the metacognitive part. 20 samples from seventy-two participants were selected to participate in interview session. The former employed statistical tool (SPSS 22) to reveal the level of learners’ metacognitive awareness. The statistical analysis indicated high level of metacognitive of awareness in all sub-scales (Global Strategy, M=3.59, SD=0.56, Support Strategy, M=3.51, SD=0.77, Problem Solving Strategy, M=3.77, SD=0.65) for the successful group. The unsuccessful group, on the other hand, indicated medium level on both Global and Support Strategy (M=3.16, SD=0.60, M=3.06, SD=0.49) with the exception of Problem Solving Strategy with a high level of awareness (M=3.58, SD=0.55). Interviews showed that many students, especially unsuccessful learners, have a clear purpose when reading but when they did not understand they choose to discuss with friends. This finding warranted the need for the design of strategy training with the focus on strategy consolidation to make these learners employ these existing strategies in more productive and efficient manner.

Abstract

Studi ini mengkaji masalah yang paling potensial dalam menyimak wacana bahasa Inggris yangdihadapi oleh pembelajar Indonesia yang mempelajaribahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing ditingkat perguruan tinggi. Tes menyimak diberikan pada pembelajar bahasa Inggris yang memilikikemampuan menyimak pre-intermediate dan intermediate. Selanjutnya, kuesioner diberikanuntuk mengetahui pikiran, perasaan, atau komentar mengenai aktifitas menyimak selama tesberlangsung. Akhirnya, wawancara dilakukan untuk mengetahui kemungkinan masalah yangdialami dalam menyimak serta penyebabnya. Hasil analisis kualitatif data yang dikumpulkandari tiga instrumen tersebut menemukan lima kategori masalah pemerolehan pemahaman dalammenyimak yaitu masalah yang berhubungan dengan pengolahan informasi (masalah kecepatanpembicara penutur bahasa Inggris), konten bahasa penutur asli '(masalah karena pengucapanpenutur bahasa Inggris yang sulit dipahami, penggunaan bahasa sehari-hari dan penggunaanbentuk bahasa yang disederhanakan), kemampuan berbahasa Inggris (masalah keterbatasan kosakata dan tata bahasa), kebiasaan belajar (masalah karena inkonsistensi kebiasaan belajarmenyimak), gangguan saat menyimak (masalah sulit berkonsentrasi) serta masalah kesalahan interpretasi (masalah karena ketidakmampuan siswa untuk mengkonversi pesan dengan benarsaat menyimak).Kata kunci: Potensi masalah, pemahaman menyimak

Abstract

Judul dari Penelitian ini adalah Abreviasi Bahasa Prancis dan Bahasa Indonesia (Suatu AnalisisKontrastif). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan (1) proses pembentukan abreviasi bahasaPrancis dan bahasa Indonesia, (2) persamaan dan perbedaan abreviasi bahasa Prancis dan bahasaIndonesia, dan (3) melihat kecenderungan proses pembentukan abreviasi bahasa Prancis danbahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Metode ini digunakan untukmenggali informasi dan data berupa bentuk abreviasi. Untuk menganalisis data tersebut,digunakan dua tahap, yaitu teknik pengumpulan data dan analisis data berupa bentuk-bentukabreviasi sehingga dapat ditemukan persamaan dan perbedaannya, serta melihat kecenderunganpada proses pembentukannya. Hasil dari penelitian ini, menunjukkan persamaan abreviasi bahasaPrancis dan bahasa Indonesia melalui kategori berupa akronim dan singkatan, yang dibentuksesuai proses pelafalannya. Sedangkan perbedaan abreviasi bahasa Prancis dan bahasa Indonesiamelalui kategori pembentukan berupa mot-valise dan kategori berupa proses apokop penambahandan perubahan leksem atau fonem menjadi vokal /o/ dalam bahasa Prancis. Serta terdapatpembentukan abreviasi dalam bahasa Indonesia yang belum terdapat klasifikasi pembentukannya.Kata Kunci: abreviasi, singkatan, akronim, apokop, analiss kontrastif

Abstract

This article aims to reveal the strategy of Young’s family to maintain the social class as an Asian jetset family. The Young’s family uses their social status by revealing their power in explicitly or implicitly strategy. The problem focuses on how the Young’s family negotiates their legitimation of social status and the perspective of Kevin Kwan as the author of the novel. This article signifies the use of the Bordieu’s concept: habitus, capital, and modal. By using the Bordieu’s perpective, the writer is able to find the picture of high class society which full control of the capital, cultural, social, and also their habitus.
