Abstract

Abstract The slogan ‘All Eyes on Rafah’ went viral and became the talk of netizens on social media. The viral hashtag #AllEyesOnRafah on X social media was used to voice solidarity and concern for the humanitarian tragedy that befell the people of Rafah due to the Israeli army's attack. This study, conducted using the rigorous Social Network Analysis (SNA) method and incorporating the computer-mediated communication (CMC) theory and the Homophily theory, seeks to identify influential actors and analyze the communication network of the #AllEyesOnRafah on X social media. The primary data is the posts on social media X with the hashtag #AllEyesOnRafah dated from May 26th to July 4th, 2024. The data collection, processing, and analysis uses the web-based applications Netlytic.org and Gephi software. The SNA analysis reveals 305 nodes and 382 edges centered on several actors. The proximity between actors is 3, showing that the distance between actors is close. Therefore, the interactions are easy to occur. It was also found that the interactions between actors were few and considered uneven; this fact signifies one-way interactions. Such interaction is centered on 10 nodes with the most dominant of which is the @realmarcel1 account. In addition to that, the two most influential actors, @realmarcel1 and @Ta4leaHayam1, consistently scored highest in centrality on the basis of the analysis of degree centrality, closeness centrality, betweenness centrality, and eigenvector centrality. The communication network encouraged X users to support Palestine and informed others.

Abstract

This study explores how the Bugis emerged as a distinct ethnic group by examining the historical, cultural, and social processes that shaped their collective identities. It further investigates the defining features of Bugis’ identity and how ethnic boundaries are constructed, maintained, and negotiated over time. The research were conducted inBugis diaspora areas in Pagatan, South Kalimantan and Jakarta, as well as in several Bugis regions in South Sulawesi—namely Barru, Pangkep, and Bulukumba Regencies—between April and September 2021. This study demonstrates that Bugis’s development as an ethnic group was exclusively connected to the Cina Kingdom in Sulawesi. The expansion of this local kingdom contributed to the formation and shaping ofthe Bugis identity in the ancient period. However, Bugis identity developed and transformed over time; from the tradition of La Galigo it became a Muslim society. In addition, migration and commercial culture helped construct their identity. Re-examining ethnic identity from a long-term historical perspective is important in order to move beyond cultural essentialism, which tends to ignore the shifts and changes as a result from cross-cultural encounters. Ethnic boundaries are not immutable, but are contextually deployed and relationally defined

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the strategies used to represent women in French rap songs and identify the various identities of women depicted in French rap songs. This research utilizes Sara Mills' Critical Discourse Analysis theory and Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics approach on Transitivity. The data were then analyzed using Sara Mills' Critical Discourse Analysis theory, focusing on the subject and object positions. These clauses were classified based on transitivity elements, including participants, processes, and circumstances. The results show differences in the representation of women carried out by male and female rappers. In songs performed by male rappers, women are represented as object. Women are portrayed as materialistic, seductive, traditional, and passive. Based on the transitivity analysis, which indicates that the dominant processes are Material, Mental, and Relational processes. On the other hand, in rap songs performed by female rappers, women are represented as subject, capable of presenting themselves and offering representations that tend to empower women. This representation manifests as strong, confident, independent, and competitive women. This is also evident from the transitivity analysis, which indicates that the dominant process is the Material process

Abstract

This article discusses plans to move Indonesia's capital city to the Penajam area, North Paser, East Kalimantan. Reading the history of the relocation of the capital city and the politics of capital city spatial planning both during the colonial and post-independence periods, it is clear that symbolic aspects in space play an important role in representing culture as well as constructing the culture desired by the government. Based on data obtained through the official government website, it appears that the current transfer and spatial planning of IKN on the island of Kalimantan is also basically a cultural policy of the government, namely an effort to create a national capital that reflects a national identity that transcends all barriers of ethnic identity and another primordial identity.
