Abstract

The purpose of the research is to, the inheritance pattern of Tjipta Boedaya’s Wayang Orang. The method of the research was qualitative method by using the approach of interdicipline which utilized etnochoreology study, anthropology, and sociology. The inheritance pattern of Tjipta Boedaya’s Wayang Orang. The location of the reasearch was at Padhepokan Tjipta Boedaya, dusun tutup ngisor. The technique of the data collection was using observations, interviews, and study dokumen, the technique of data validation was using triangulation, member check, and making thick description. The technique of the theory data analysis was using the concept which has been arraanged before and throughed four analysis stages which were data collection, reduction, presentation, and verification. The result of the research inheritance pattern of Wayang Orang divided into two paths, they were family path and environment path. Inheritance which been inherited including stories, themes, movements, cosmetics,and accompaniment. Inheritance pattern through family and environtment became the key of the establishment of Tjipta Boedaya’ Wayang Orang.

Abstract

The phenomenon in the Batu village community needs to be closely examined given that the bia music of the past to present is shifting and changing, due to the lack of awareness, the behavior of the society towards the Bia music. The music of this tradition is very apprehensive to see the reality of the players from year to year diminishing in quantity and quality, not many people who can play and who can play it most aged 40 years and above. The disinterest of the young generation of traditional music with the presence of communication and entertainment technology has made it easier for people to choose various types of entertainment in accordance with what they like. The theory used in this research is the theory of socio-cultural change, data collection techniques used are: interviews, observation and documentation. The data validity technique is based on the credibility criteria, using data triangulation. The result of the research shows that polarization of changes in bia music is seen in previous music functions as ritual media and communication media, now transformed into evangelism media, cultural festivals events, association, entertainment, publicity, and education and in socio-cultural changes occur Due to internal factors caused by the artist itself as a result of the musical demands into an innovation and creativity, and external factors caused by the influence of outside culture that entered and easily accepted by the community.

Abstract

Bundengan is a transformation of kowangan or tudhung, which is a kind of head cover made of bamboo blades, clumpring, and rope fibers. This kowangan used to be used by duck herders to take shelter or shelter from the rain and the sun. The purpose of this study is to analyze: (1) The form of bundengan art performances; (2) Social reality that occurs in society; And (3) The aesthetic expression of artists bundengan with the flow of expressiveness. This research uses qualitative method with data collection technique of interview, observation and document study. The data validity technique is based on the credibility criteria, using triangulation of data. Data analysis techniques used are data collection, data presentation, data reduction, and data verification. The results show bundengan can replicate gamelan sounds such as bendhe, kempul, gong, and kendang applied in the pattern of the game, accompanying Lengger dance. There are three moments of dialectics in the social reality of externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Artists bundengan embrace the flow of aesthetic expressiveness art is not as a craft, magical, representation, and entertainment. The art of bundengan maintained its authenticity, and developed and disseminated.

Abstract

Gandes Luwes traditional dance studio plays important roles in conserving traditional arts, especially tembang dolanan (traditional game song) as the musical art made based on the growth level of children. Beside used as a song, Tembang Dolanan also contains moral values or wisdoms as well as be enhanced with the creativity from the creator studio in its structure and rhythm pattern. This research reviewed or analyzed the forms and creativity of Tembang Dolanan. This research used qualitative approach by understanding and describing the phenomenon of creative backsound music as to fulfill the needs of the market or the society to support the development of Tembang Dolanan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe Likok Pulo Aceh dance as an educational media of religious values in Pulo Aceh society. This research used qualitative research method with interdisciplinary approach. The data was collected by observation, interview, and documentation. The researcher used triangulation to check the validity of data. Then it analyzed using reduction flow, data presentation, and data verification. The results showed that the messages that delivered from Likok Pulo Aceh dance through the dancers was when dancers perform the movement of the dance and poetry (syair), it gave advice to the Acehnese people especially in the people Pulo Aceh about Allah SWT’s rules and the relationship between the society. From the movements of dancers such as the movement of Saleum until the closing movement of Likok Pulo Aceh dance have some values which are aqidah, muamalah and morals and almost all the poems (lyric) which was sang by the dancers give some messages. The messages that conveyed relating to aqidah, mumalah and morals, especially the relationship between God and human being. Regarding to the relationship between Allah SWT and human being was how to pray in a good way and did not forsake for Salat and Shalawat to our Prophet Muhammad SAW. For young people or the future generations, they should not deny their parents, did not occupy the bad lust, for men and women there was a procedure of how to choose life companion that appropriate with the doctrine of Islam or the Shari’a. As long as the relationship between human and human, we should respect and always keep the hospitality to each other. This research is expected to instill these values ​​for next generation and keep on preserved.

Abstract

Peoples appreciation of traditional art can be influenced by the views of the community. This study aims to examine the appreciation of Ngloho santri society towards Kubrosiswo Bintang Mudo Arts. This research uses qualitative method. The approach used is a contextual approach or how to understand a phenomenon by connecting it to other phenomena in a particular culture. In the context of this research, problem solving is placed within the socio-cultural context of Ngloho santri society.The appreciation of Ngloho santri society towards Kubrosiswo Bintang Mudo art splits into two, namely the young and the old group. Kubrosiswo Bintang Mudo since its inception in Ngloho Hamlet in 1989 was supported by a group of young people because of the desire to fulfill their aesthetic needs for a traditional art form that can represent their identity. This art for young people is understood as a symbol of trends, progress and modernity. The old group tends to keep a distance to this art. For them this art is considered jogedan art that is understood as the symbol of abangan art. In addition, the existence of pre-show and trance ritual sessions for the old group is considered to have come out of the Islamic faith.

Abstract

This research aims to study the embodiment sculpture Tau Tau in Toraja as a work of art, the urgency in Rambu Solo’ rituals, the myth, and the character’s value contained in it. The approach used is descriptive qualitative which lead to ethnographic, with techniques of observation, interviews, and document study in collecting data. The results obtained in this study indicate that, First, the sculpture of Tau Tau in Toraja is a primitive which is monumental style, with an aesthetic that is mythic-religious. Second, the sculpture of Tau Tau is important in the Rambu Solo’ ritual for the nobility because it is one determinant of excellence ceremony. Third, the sculptures represent the Tau Tau from the myths that live in the minds of religious-arkhais communities Torajans, like the myth of Eran di Langi’, the myth of the birth of Datu Laukku and Puang Adang, myths about Daeta-Daeta and myths about the end of human life. Fourth, the sculpture of Tau Tau contains character values, such as the attitude of respect, responsibility, wisdom, love and compassion, hard work, integrity, and a sense of gratitude. Based on the research results, put forward the suggestion that, First, the Department of Education and Culture need to incorporate sculpture Tau Tau into the learning materials in schools. Second, artists need to introduce more in sculpture Tau Tau through the studies. Third, citizens of Toraja societies which needs to have a high awareness of the importance of maintaining and preserving the sculpture Tau Tau as cultural products that few of their ancestors.

Abstract

Adaninggarelaswara dance is a classical dance which got influence of Chinese ethnic. The dancers’ movements called gesture meaningful with normative value of Javanese woman as well as still relevant in Javanese woman lives today. The research aims to describe Adaninggar-Kelaswara dance performance, identify women’s representation in Adaninggar-Kelaswara dance movement and also to communicate the pragmatic message to women through Adaninggar-Kelaswara dance movement. The method of this study used qualitative method and interpretative semiotics approach. The source of data used primary and secunder data through the techniques of data were observation, interview, and documentary. The technique of authorized data was the use of source triangulation and the techniques of analyzing data using Barthes cultural semiotic. The conclusion of the dance movement in cultural semiotics indicate that Adaninggar-Kelaswara dance movement relating to the way of live and Javanese woman’s personality values. This finding is hoped to become the referential for the further research on Adaninggar-Kelaswara dance with other methods in order to explore the cultural values of Java, especially concerning to women representation.

Abstract

Tengok Bustaman Tradition is a kind of art tradition in Bustaman village held once a year with various show performances, one of them is dance. The tradition of Tengok Bustaman is pioneered by Hysteria community where the aim is to address the city's issues with art as one of its approaches to build an artistic response in Bustaman society. Hysteria is a community that engages in city-sensitive research and with art as its approach. The formulation of the problem in this research is to explain the form of dance performances in Tengok Bustaman tradition, the function of dance performance in Tengok Bustaman tradition and artistic response in Bustaman village. This study uses a qualitative method. This research is studied through interdisciplinary approach named Performance Studies and Sociology of Art. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, document studies, and recording techniques. The validation technique uses source triangulation. The data analysis procedures include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results show that the form of performances in Tengok Bustaman tradition is a dance performance. Dance performance in Bustaman village includes several processes such as pre-performance, performance and after performance. The function of dance performance in Bustaman Village is as the cause of educational media, entertainment media, and communication media and as a commercial media. The existence of dance performance in Tengok Bustaman tradition produces several artistic responses, among others are visual response, auditive response and environmental response. The dance performance in Tengok Bustaman tradition is able to provide changes and development of the village for the better future.

Abstract

Randai Kuantan is a performing art consisting of art elements, such as, theater, dance, and music from social phenomenon and combination of traditional art of Kuantan Singingi society. Art is a cultural expression of a society that has various functions in accordance with the interests and the condition of the societies. The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of social change on the form of performance in Randai Kuantan. The science used is Sociology for explaining the factors which influence social change in a society. The method used was interpretative qualitative, and data collection technique was by observation, interview, and document study with primary and secondary data sources. Technique of data validity was by sources triangulation, and the technique of data analysis was by data reduction, presentation, and verification data. The resarch was located in Kuantan Singingi Riau. The social changes are influenced by 2 (two) factors, outside and inside factors and then relates to the role of education, religion, economy, tribes, and social environment of Kuantan Singingi societies. Those factors change the form of Randai Kuantan art including time of performance, members, the location of performance, make up, and costumes. The application of traditional art media are attempts being made to foster awareness of the values and norms that exist in society. In the process of application aspects of the values found in the art of Randai Kuantan is expected to be established and raises awareness for consumer demand. As for the arts as a form of cultural expression community have diverse functions fit the interests and circumstances of society. But basically there are also elements which govern the system of values which formed the society rules, norms, conventions that act as guidelines to achieve the goal. So the arts directly has affected the values and norms that are structurally brings social change on the form of artistry Randai Kuantan. Based on the existing social values were associated in an attempt the formation of individual character in a social environment.
