Because it is an asset for being able to communicate in order to understand, get information, express mind and feeling, and develop knowledge. So that, language learning through a fun method with another supporting factor, like learning motivation is expected to influence the level of the early children language competence. The goals of this research are to test the differences of language competence between a group which gets treatment of language games and the group which gets conventional method, to test the differences of language competence between group which has a high motivation and group which has a low motivation, to test the influences of interaction between language games method and learning motivation toward language competence of child. This research uses quantitative approach with experiment method factorial designed 2x2 with four kindergartens in Tembalang as the samples. Normality test uses Lilifors Test, Homogenity uses Barlet Test and hypothesis test uses ANAVA two strips with t-Dunnet test with alpha = 0.5 as the level of belief are proven that the seven hypothesis are appropriate with the goals of research which can be received. As the result, the treatment of language games method and learning motivation are effective significantly in developing children language competence.

Abstract

Pupils’ low early numeracy skill was found as a problem in a preliminary study with average percentage 52,05% based on observation and attitude test. This was resulted from paper and pencil activities involving drilling in the instruction. The researchers, therefore, offered direct solution for increasing early numeracy skill of kindergarten pupils B by playing Number Wheel at Kindergarten Bon Thorif located in Palembang South Sumatera, Indonesia. Number Wheel was media of pointing numbers modified from Charlesworth’s media (2000, p.104). This media was in the shape of circle with 10 numbers from number 1 to 10 with different colours on its surface. This circle could spin at its center like a wheel and stop exactly on the clock hand pointing numbers. The method used classroom action research. The subjects were 13 pupils, 6 years old. Data collection techniques were test and non test. The data obtained from observation were gathered from field-notes and photographs. Data regarding an early numeracy skill were gathered by using an attitude test and observation. The indicator of the success of this research was shown by the improvement up to 71% for each pupil. The data analysis indicated that there was improvement 78,56% of pupils’ early numeracy skill in the frist cycle and 99,45% in the second cycle. This proved that the improvement was significant. The implication is that playing Number Wheel can be an alternative way to increase kindegarten pupils’ early numeracy skill. Future study is suggested to develop more innovative media to improve early numeracy skill.

Abstract

Academic achievement is not the only indicator of achievement in school. The neurocognitive profile, as measured by the quality of life (QoL) and neurocognitive status are important markers that make academic achievement more relevant with regard to optimum brain utilization. The main objective of this study was to determine the relationship between quality of life, neurocognitive status and academic achievement in a sample of children in a Malaysian primary school. QoL was measured using three versions of the TNO-AZL quality of life (TACQOL) questionnaire from the children’s (CV), parents’ (PV) and teachers’ (TV) perspectives. Neurocognitive status was assessed in two domains, executive function and visual memory using Cambridge Neuropsychology Tests Automated Battery (CANTAB®). A convenience sampling was undertaken for all 95 Standard One Zainab 2 Primary School children (7 Years Old), 95 parents and 4 teachers. Regarding executive function, 42.1% of children experienced difficulties in extra dimensional shift which measures attention flexibility in accepting a new rule. However, they performed well in the intra extra dimensional shift, indicating that most children responded positively to experiential learning. For visual memory, 49.5% of children experienced some difficulties in terms of their short term visual memory. The relationship between QoL, neurocognitive status and academic achievement of the children showed that only ‘cognitive complaint’ and ‘negative mood’ had a significant linear positive relationship with academic achievement. No other significant relationship was noted between neurocognitive status and academic achievement. Thus, this study has shown that academic achievement does not necessarily reflect the neurocognitive status of children implying that some neurocognitive problems remain undetected. A more meaningful assessment of academic achievement, in primary schools should include an assessment of both QoL and neurocognitive profile. Keywords : CANTAB, primary school children, cognitive status, academic achievement.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are 1) to determine the outcomeof children’s learning development towards the use of beginning calculation concepts using Manbota game tools; 2) to determine the outcome of the children’s development towards the use of beginning calculation concept using number cards game tools; 3) to determine the differences among the result of the study using Manbota and number cards. The research uses the non equivalent control group design. The T test shows that the average percentage of the experimental group 1 changes from 17.75 into 30.55. Meanwhile, the T test shows that the average percentage of the experimental group 2 changes from 19.65 into 22.25. It can be conclude that: 1) the result of children development in beginning reading and writing concept using the Manbota is proven by the experimental class 1 result; 2) the result of children development in beginning reading and writing concept using the Manbota is proven by the experimental class 2; 3) the difference in learning outcomes of the beginning reading and writing concepts using the game Manbota and card numbers is proven through the results of the smaller experimental group increase compared to the experimental group 1. Abstract

This research aimed to find out the impact of learning model and classroom management on the self-regulation of five-to-six-year-old children of Group B Kindergarten in Banten in 2017. It used research method of factorial design 2X2 to explain the difference of children’s self-regulation who got the treatment of learning model and classroom management. The research results: 1) there was an impact of learning model on self-regulation, 2) there was an impact of classroom management on self-regulation, 3) there was an interaction impact between learning model and classroom management on self-regulation, 4) children who were in the center-based classroom management and learned with learning cycle model had higher self-regulation than children who learned with scientific approach model, 5) children who learned with learning cycle model and were in the center-based classroom management had higher self-regulation than children who were in group classroom management. The implication of the research is that combining learning cycle model and center-based classroom management will support the success of the self-regulation development, which is the main provision of the early childhood school readiness.
