Abstract

The current model of history teaching and learning is still oriented toward delivering learning materials so history awareness among the learners is not optimally achieved. This study is intended to analyze the implementation of the current management of history teaching and learning, to develop a model of history learning management based on the contextual approach to improve history awareness, and to test the feasibility of the model. This study adopted a research and development design. The data were collected by using observation, interviews, questionnaires and documents, and analysed by using a descriptive and analytical qualitative analysis. The results show that the teaching of history is currently teacher-centered, by using a lecture method, with very limited teaching media and references. Developing a management model of contextual history learning is a way to improve history awareness. The model was validated by experts by the average scale of 3.81 and by practitioners by the average scale of 4.00. The final model consists of planning, observation, development and application. The model can improve the history awareness of the VHS learners better if compared to the conventional model (ttest = 5.316 at p < 0.05).

Abstract

Students understand and develop movement skills through various sport games, but they have less enjoyable experience because of inappropriate and uncomfortable ball size. The existing standard balls often frighten the students  because of their weight and may hurt them when the balls hit their body parts. This study is intended to design a multifunctional ball for basket ball, volley ball and football and to find out how it can improve the students’ motivation in the teaching of Physical Education, Sport and Health in Primary and Junior High Schools in Semarang. This is a research and development study. The sample of 36 students were selected for the small-scale testing and 72 students for the large-scale testing. The results of the study show that the final product was a multifunctional ball with the size of 66 cm, made of soft, unslippery Poly Urhetane sponge, 270 gram in weight, air pressre of 0.250-0.3 bar and the bounce of 105-115. The ball was designed in light and interesting color. The final product has two functions for basket ball, volley ball and football, and does not cause pain because of their light in weight and reasonable size.

Abstract

The Scientific approach is among the ways to achieve the goals of the 2013 Curriculum (K13). The short period of time for the teacher training and others are assumed to be the cause of the gradual implementation of K13. In line with this, the Government intends to reorganize the way in which the K13 is implemented. The Government has assigned several schools to be analyzed as the target schools to improve. This study intends to contribute to it by analyzing the pattern of scientific `approach implemented by the teachers in teaching their students so that the teachers’ performance in conducting teaching-learning processes can be managed in accordance with the K13. This research aimed to determine the level of perceived gaps on the way the teachers implemented the scientific approach in physical education, sports, and health (PJOK) learning at the target schools of the K13 in the province of North Sumatra. The data were analyzed in order to obtain an overview and improvement solutions in managing scientific approach to PJOK learning that foster a positive impact on the aspects of growth and the students’ development in line with the expectation of the K13. The research method applied in this study refers to the discrepancy approach developed by Malcolm Provus. This approach was meant to find out gaps in the program. The research was carried out by inventorying standard references in implementing the pattern of the scientific approach. The results of inventorying become the standard criteria of data collection and analysis in this study. The analysis revealed that the PJOK teachers have not completely implemented the scientific approach. The implementation patterns were neither consistent nor appropriate.  The teachers understanding about the demand of the scientific approach pattern management of the K13 was inadequate.

The techniques employed for collecting data were observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentary study. The results of this study show that most teachers did not have any teaching-learning plan which matched the school condition. Teachers prepared their lesson plan just to fulfill the requirements of teaching-learning administration. The penjasorkes teaching-learning processes that had been carried out by the teachers so far stressed more on the teachers’ skill and performance. They mostly applied authoritarian approaches supported by some standard learning facilities. The character values implanted through this typical approach developed without any learning modification, it merely stressed on disciplinary trait as the main value. Other character values were developed neither through habit nor deep intervention during the teaching-learning processes.

The study employs a Research and Development (R & D) without implementing the whole steps of R&D. The research begins with the preliminary step and then continues with FGD I in order to fix model I, then the model I become model II, and then model II ended by FGD II to be the model II which is validated by the experts and practitioners upon its feasibility. These procedures are conducted considering the research finding related to a policy change is hard to be implemented. The results of the study show that one validator assesses the model as “quite feasible to be implemented”. Four validators conclude that the model is “feasible to be implemented”. Five validators categorize the model as “very feasible to be implemented”. The measurement of the model validity is 84.6%. Therefore, the competency test model " 10 months online” is very feasible to be implemented. This outcome is well-embraced by the FGD participants. Based on interviews researchers with industry the findings of this research  was  good and the model is easy to implement. Likewise, internal assessors opinion this model is a new innovation and feasible. This study concludes that the competency test model of "10 months online " infeasible and provides a great opportunity for the industry to be involved in assessing the competency test because it is administered on Saturday and Sunday within 10 months. Abstract

Education that is charged with multicultural values is a staged-educational process that can be used as a binder and a bridge to accommodate differences, such as ethnicity, language, culture, gender, region, and religion in a multi-cultural society in order to create intelligent, wise, and polite personality in dealing with diversity issues. Multicultural education should continue to be understood comprehensively, so it is not stagnant only limited to discourse, and ultimately can be implemented in harmony and without any negative effects. It is this basis that causes multicultural education urgent for immediate implementation in educational institutions, so it is necessary to comprehensively study various aspects of life so that there is a synergy between the academic community and the society of a nation-state. This study employed a research and development (R & D) design from Borg and Gall, while the design of the model was adopted from the development of McKenny. The research procedure was based on the ten-phased design from Borg and Gall that has been modified into three phases, namely (1) a preliminary study; (2) the development of the design; and (3) testing the feasibility of the product. Based on the conclusion, this study recommends that multicultural education is a new discourse of education in Indonesia, but the urgency of its implementation is very high; the multicultural education curriculum can be implemented through each level of education, the student program and in the process of habituation through daily learning both within the school and in the family. Multicultural education can be inserted through the planting of multicultural values into the curriculum or learning activities which are responsively multicultural by promoting respect for differences: racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, and territorial between the community members; and no less important is that multicultural education discourse can be implemented within the scope of the family, as the smallest social institution in the community which is most effective learning media in the process of internalization and transformation of values, as well as the socialization of family members.
