Abstract

The proliferation of Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia highlights the strategic role of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) in shaping educational quality and fostering students’ motivation to learn. This study explores how Pondok Pesantren Darussalamah Braja Dewa contributes to improving educational standards and cultivating santri learning enthusiasm through formal, non-formal, and informal learning systems. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving the management and students of the pesantren. The results reveal that the institution enhances educational quality by systematically organizing learning objectives, subject standards, annual and semester programs, daily learning schedules, and extracurricular activities. In parallel, the pesantren promotes learning motivation through character-building practices, religious habituation, social mentoring, emotional and spiritual intelligence development, and vocational training. Educational strategies such as wetonan, sorogan, halaqah, and musyawarah also play a vital role in achieving these outcomes. Furthermore, the pesantren functions as a religious, social, and leadership training center, supporting students in becoming intellectually grounded and spiritually responsible individuals. These findings underscore the continuing relevance and adaptability of pesantren in the modern educational landscape.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning has been believed by several studies as one of the determinants of successful learning characterized by good academic performance. In fact, many learners are not able to regulate themselves optimally to stay motivated and consistent in learning. Therefore, this study aims to explore the influence of seven dimensions of learning environment on students' self-regulated learning. A cross-sectional research design was used in this study. Data were obtained from 419 4th semester students using a questionnaire packaged in the form of googleform. Data analysis in this study used Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The findings in this study are involvement, investigation, task orientation, cooperation and equity have little effect on students' self-regulated learning. Meanwhile, lecture support and student cohesiveness proved to have no influence. Therefore, a learning environment that is able to create involvement, investigation, task orientation, cooperation and equity in the classroom learning process plays an important role in developing students' self-regulated learning ability.  These findings certainly provide a strong empirical basis for educational institutions to design appropriate interventions, develop relevant curricula, and create a conducive academic atmosphere to equip students with essential skills as adaptive lifelong learners who are ready to face global challenges.

Abstract

It is crucial to have suitable learning models in the Freedom curriculum, allowing students sufficient time to delve into concepts and improve skills, particularly in mathematical reasoning and disposition. CORE learning (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending) is a different approach to enhancing upper school students' mathematical reasoning and disposition abilities. This quantitative study employs descriptive and two-way multivariate analysis to examine the impact of learning models and gender on students' mathematical reasoning and disposition abilities. The study focuses on grade IX students at a public senior high school in Surakarta, Indonesia. The control group is class Phase E-8, which follows a direct learning approach and is known as the Non-CORE class. In the meantime, the Phase E-10 class is an experimental class implementing the CORE learning model. The study findings show variances in mathematical thinking and attitude among high school students in CORE versus non-CORE classes. Additionally, there is no reliance on enforcing CORE learning on male and female students, suggesting that CORE learning can be suggested for enhancing mathematical reasoning skills and disposition ability of all students irrespective of gender. CORE learning has been proven to be an effective strategy for improving students' mathematical reasoning and disposition through education oriented towards a constructivist approach centered on students, where students actively construct their knowledge through a series of processes that connect, organize, reflect, and extend concepts. This study contributes to the discourse on constructivist pedagogy by providing strong evidence that the CORE learning model improves mathematical reasoning and attitudes among upper secondary students. Those taught with CORE outperform peers in traditional settings in both cognitive and attitudinal measures. The lack of gender-based differences indicates CORE supports equitable learning. Aligned with Indonesia’s Freedom Curriculum, the model promotes active, student-centered learning and shows promise as a scalable, inclusive approach to improving math proficiency and engagement.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the Literature Circle model on enhancing Malay Rumi reading proficiency and critical thinking skills among Mattayom 1 students at Phitakvitayak Kumung School in Southern Thailand. Adopting a quantitative experimental design, the research utilized pre-test and post-test assessments to evaluate changes in students’ reading performance, analyzed using SPSS. The results indicate a statistically significant improvement in reading proficiency following the intervention. For example, one student’s score increased from 60 to 80, reflecting a 20-point gain; similar improvements were recorded across the cohort. A paired sample t-test confirmed the significance of these gains, yielding a t-value of 58.169 and a p-value of 0.0001 (p < 0.05). Additionally, participation in Literature Circle discussions fostered the development of critical thinking abilities, including text analysis, questioning techniques, and comparative reasoning. This study contributes to the expanding field of collaborative literacy instruction by providing empirical evidence for the effectiveness of the Literature Circle model in multilingual, cross-cultural, and minority language contexts. Specifically, it advances the understanding of Rumi Malay pedagogy an area that remains under-explored by highlighting the model's potential to enhance both reading proficiency and higher-order thinking skills among learners in Southern Thailand.

Abstract

Most of the students of class X MA Yapis North Jakarta, around 60%, the learning achievement is in the range of 40% of the total number of students as many as 64 in 2 classes have difficulty in understanding the material of fiqh, especially in linking the concept of Islamic law with contemporary life issues. Learning that tends to be rote and less applicable is one of the main factors that hinders students' understanding. To overcome this problem, this study aims to integrate the ijtihad method used by the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) into Islamic Religious Education learning based on Problem Based Learning (PBL). The contextual and systematic ijtihad method of the MUI Fatwa Commission is considered relevant to provide an understanding of Islamic law that is actual and responsive to social dynamics. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection was carried out through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and learning documentation. Initial results show that the integration of the ijtihad method in the PBL model is able to increase student participation, build critical thinking skills, and make fiqh material closer to the reality they face. Thus, this approach provides an effective alternative in improving the quality of fiqh learning in madrasas. The results of the research findings showed a significant increase in the percentage of students achieving scores above the KKM to 86%. This increase not only reflects the success of students in understanding the material cognitively, but also shows an increase in critical thinking, communication, and cooperation skills in the context of fiqh learning.
