Abstract

AbstractHeritage building is recorder history in the past for better life in the future and need conservation. The Metropole XXI cinema as a landmark building in the Cikini area, Jakarta, has been listed as A class heritage building since 1993. It was established as public entertainment space and the oldest cinema in Indonesia since it was built in 1949. The Metropole XXI architecture has the Art Deco style, as a sign of transition to the end of the Dutch colonial era. As a heritage building, it is suspected that interior design in this site is harmony with its architectural style. Research is needed to review the interior design styles found in cultural heritage buildings. This study uses qualitative method, by collecting field observation data, literature review and visual data. The data obtained were then analyzed to prove the engagement between interior design and architectural styles of cultural heritage buildings with a case study at the Metropole XXI Jakarta cinema. AbstrakBangunan cagar budaya adalah situs yang mencatat sejarah manusia di masa lalu untuk kehidupan yang lebih baik di masa depan dan membutuhkan konservasi. Bioskop Metropole XXI sebagai bangunan tengara di daerah Cikini, Jakarta, telah terdaftar sebagai gedung warisan kelas A sejak tahun 1993. Bioskop ini didirikan sebagai ruang hiburan publik dan bioskop tertua di Jakarta sejak dibangun pada tahun 1949. Arsitektur Metropole XXI memiliki gaya Art Deco, sebagai tanda transisi ke akhir era kolonial Belanda. Sebagai bangunan peninggalan, diduga desain interior di situs ini selaras dengan gaya arsitekturnya. Penelitian diperlukan untuk meninjau gaya desain interior yang ditemukan di bangunan cagar budaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan mengumpulkan data observasi lapangan, tinjauan pustaka dan data visual. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis untuk membuktikan keterlibatan antara desain interior dan gaya arsitektur bangunan cagar budaya dengan studi kasus di bioskop Metropole XXI Jakarta.

Abstract

Changes are inevitable in everyone’s life. This condition almost always pushes artists to find new strategies in order to keep their works accepted by public at large. One of Indonesia’s comedy group called Srimulat is one of the art groups who have made some efforts to keep their existence. In this spirit, a comic artist, Hari Prast, has tried to bring back the identity and character of the Srimulat members through digital comic media. This article delves into the strategies used by the comedy group Srimulat and by Hari Prast using comic media. The analysis uses descriptive method through adaptation study in order to find the strategies of maintaining the character and identity of the comedy group of Srimulat. The result of the analysis shows that through adaptation – specifically through comic media, the character and identity of Srimulat’s jokes are maintainable up until now. In the adaptation process, the existence of the people’s and the art audience’s collective memory play an important role as the connecting bridge between work of arts and the audience who appreciate it. The link between the past and present knowledge of a community can be built through the strategy of adaptation so that the artists and their works can sustain and known from one generation to the next generation. Perubahan zaman tak terhindarkan bagi siapa saja. Keadaan ini sering kali membuat seniman  harus melakukan berbagai strategi pemertahanan terhadap karyanya agar tetap bisa diterima dan bertahan. Grup lawak Srimulat adalah salah satu kelompok seni yang melakukan berbagai strategi pemertahanan agar tetap eksis. Sejalan dengan itu, komikus Hari Prast mencoba menghadirkan kembali identitas dan karakter personel Srimulat lewat media komik digital.  Artikel ini akan memaparkan pemertahanan yang dilakukan oleh grup lawak Srimulat dan juga oleh Hari Prast lewat media komik. Analisis dilakukan dengan metode analisis deskriptif melalui pendekatan kajian alih wahana untuk melihat strategi pemertahanan karakter dan identitas grup lawak Srimulat. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa melalui alih wahana salah satunya melalui media komik, karakter dan identitas lawakan Srimulat dapat terus bertahan hingga saat ini. Dalam proses pengalihwahanaan itu, keberadaan memori kolektif masyarakat dan penikmat karya seni sangat berperan penting sebagai jembatan penghubung antara karya seni dengan masyarakat penikmatnya. Pertalian antara pengetahuan masa lalu dan masa kini sebuah komunitas dapat dihubungkan melalui strategi alih wahana agar seniman dan karyanya  tetap dapat bertahan dan dikenal dari satu generasi ke generasi berikutnya.

Abstract

Jakarta as a metropolitan city provides various types of public space. This paper focused on culinary spaces in urban Jakarta. Food is not only basic necessity for human, it also delivers symbolic messages. Through public dining areas, we could reveal various problems regarding social class of the visitors. On this paper, we will analyze three public dining areas: Plataran Dharmawangsa, Waroeng Solo, and Warung Mbak Yati which are considered to represent the upper, middle, and lower social classes. This paper uses Bourdieu’s distinction, arena, and capital and Lefebvre’s concept of space -which is specified by Low and Smith. This paper reveals that Bourdieu’s notions explained several things about culinary spaces and social class in urban Jakarta. Sebagai kota metropolitan, Jakarta menyediakan banyak jenis ruang – dalam berbagai arti – kepada penduduknya. Ruang yang didiskusikan dalam tulisan ini adalah ruang kuliner di urban Jakarta. Makanan bukan hanya kebutuhan, tetapi juga menyampaikan pesan simbolis. Dengan demikian, melalui ruang tempat makan sebagai ruang publik dapat diungkap berbagai hal terkait kelas sosial pengunjungnya. Dengan melihat tiga jenis tempat makan: Plataran Dharmawangsa, Waroeng Solo, Warung Mbak Yati yang dianggap mewakili kelas sosial atas, menengah, dan bawah, penelitian kecil ini akan mencoba mengungkap relasi tempat makan dan kelas sosial dalam masyarakat Jakarta. Analisis menggunakan pemikiran Bourdieu tentang distingsi (distinction), arena, dan kapital sementara konsep ruang didasarkan kepada Lefebvre yang dispesifikkan oleh Low dan Smith. Penelitian kecil ini mengungkap bahwa pemikiran Bourdieu menjelaskan beberapa hal tentang ruang kuliner dan kelas sosial di urban Jakarta.

Abstract

Omah Jawa is an architectural that has a great tradition, with a design that adheres to the concept of cosmology and adapted to the human environment. This article is about the description and architectural analysis of the Javanese tradition house that called omah, as a human body representation, by knowing the meaning of important component in the concept, function and form of the building. This analysis study is using Roland Barthes semiotics models, which develop from De Saussure theory (signified and signifier). The result of this research is explain that the design of Javanese house (form and function), has relation with human body structure. Omah Jawa merupakan sebuah bangunan yang mempunyai nilai tradisi adiluhung, dengan desain yang mengacu pada konsep kosmologi dan disesuaikan dengan lingkungan hidup manusianya. Tulisan ini merupakan kajian yang mendeskripsikan serta menganalisis arsitektural dan desain layout rumah Jawa sebagai representasi tubuh manusia, dengan men- getahui makna yang menjadi komponen penting dalam konsep, fungsi dan bentuk bangunan. Pendekatan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yakni menggunakan model semiotika Roland Barthes, yang mengembangkan teori tanda De Saussure (penanda dan petanda). Hasil peneli- tian ini menjelaskan bahwa pada dasarnya antara desain bentuk dan fungsi layout rumah Jawa memiliki keterkaitan dengan struktur tubuh manusia.

Abstract

Konvergensi ruang digital dan ruang fisik membawa potensi baru dalam penyampaian narasi budaya manusia dalam perjalanan ruang dan waktu. Dalam konteks rekonstruksi warisan budaya, penting untuk memahami nilai budaya intrinsik dari artefak dan menghindari multi-interpretasi dengan perspektif yang berbeda. Melalui eksplorasi ruang digital dan fisik, museum dapat memberikan pengalaman belajar yang lebih komprehensif dan menarik, menciptakan keterhubungan mendalam antara pengunjung dan objek museum. Pemahaman nilai budaya dan perspektif yang berbeda juga merupakan hal penting dalam konteks rekonstruksi warisan budaya. Desain interior yang menggabungkan kedua jenis ruang ini memberikan variasi dan daya tarik yang lebih tinggi, meningkatkan pengalaman bagi pengunjung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji jelajah eksplorasi ruang digital dan fisik dalam museum untuk memberikan jawaban atas tantangan rekonstruksi budaya dalam perkembangan dimensi ruang saat ini. Melalui konvergensi kedua jenis ruang ini, pengunjung dapat memperoleh pemahaman yang lebih komprehensif tentang objek museum dengan konteks yang lebih luas. Ruang digital menyediakan akses ke informasi tambahan, visualisasi yang menarik, dan interaksi yang lebih interaktif, sementara ruang fisik memungkinkan pengunjung merasakan objek secara langsung dan menciptakan hubungan emosional. Kesimpulan penelitian ini bahwa eksplorasi ruang digital dan fisik dalam museum meningkatkan pengalaman belajar dan memberikan hiburan bagi pengunjung. Dengan demikian, konvergensi ruang digital dan fisik memberikan potensi baru dalam pengalaman belajar dan penyampaian narasi budaya manusia.

Abstract

Deaf people have difficulty or cannot even hear, so they develop sign language to communicate. Difficulty of hearing and communication differences prevent deaf peo-ple from learning. However, the potential and talent of each deaf person are the same as those of other hearing people. From this point of view, deaf people can continue to work in the field of art that prioritizes form, visuals, and movement or motor skills that do not require the sense of hearing. By being creative, deaf people can voice their opinions and provide messages and stories for people who enjoy their work. This study aims to give awareness to the public and opportunities for deaf people to get space and facilities to be creative. The method used in this study is qualitative analy-sis and design thinking method. The design facilitates creative and artistic activities as outlined in the exhibition room for deaf works, painting, drawing, makerspace, deaf theater practice, multipurpose room, classroom, mini library, and co-working space ensuring that deaf people are comfortable doing activities in the room. This research was developed for the community to provide opportunities for deaf people to be more accessible and dare to be creative.

Abstract

The research examined the adaptive reuse strategy of heritage buildings that hold nostalgic value as commercial spaces with the third-place concept approach. The need for space facilities for urban communities continued to change based on the activities of its users. People of productive age living in big cities and the suburbs needed space for gathering and relaxation between work and homes. On the other hand, in the downtown area, several heritage buildings were still sturdy and owned by the state but were no longer used optimally or maintained. Adaptive reuse of heritage buildings was a strategy that emerged as a solution to address this need. Nostalgia contained in the preservation of cultural heritage buildings was a significant value to attract visitors and impact economic benefits. Studies were needed regarding aligning economic values with social and environmental needs in adaptive reuse. Qualitative methods with in-depth observations were carried out at two sites, namely the adaptive reuse of Pos Bloc and M Bloc Jakarta, heritage buildings gathering spaces for workers and young people of productive age. This method was applied to analyze the history of the building, the current condition of the interior, and the impact on the economy and community. The research finds that the adaptive reuse of Pos Bloc and M Bloc as third spaces by utilizing nostalgic values is a strategy to maintain cultural heritage as well as an effort to drive a circular economy.

Abstract

The research objectively analyzed artists’ actions and strategic reactions in the urban areas of Bandung and Yogyakarta in Indonesia during the extremely turbulent COVID-19 pandemic from March 2020 to early 2021. The pandemic greatly impacted the lives of artists and practitioners because of stringent governmental prohibitions that prohibited public art events. The research examined practitioners’ experiences concerning their reliance or autonomy from government funding when engaging in arts-related endeavors. The research methodology was based on gathering data from social media and field investigations; a comprehensive collection of posters, photos, and relevant notes was compiled using a cultural studies framework. In addition, interviews were performed with arts practitioners and communities, specifically examining their involvement on social media platforms. A detailed investigation was conducted by carefully analyzing the interview data to clarify the differences between art practitioners in Bandung and Yogyakarta. It is found that the research distinguishes between individuals who receive government sponsorship and those who operate independently. It enhances the overall comprehension of power dynamics between arts practitioners and the government in the distinct setting of the COVID-19 epidemic, including those who operated autonomously. The research utilizes a cultural studies framework to examine the power dynamics between artists and the government in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Abstrak Museum adalah lembaga yang berperan dalam melestarikan warisan budaya generasi terdahulu. Pengelola museum harus memastikan bahwa museum mencakup aspek-aspek yang menarik dan mendidik pengunjung. Penggunaan multimedia interaktif dalam pameran museum, dapat memperkaya cerita yang disampaikan sehingga membantu pengunjung untuk memahami substansi dan makna pameran secara mendalam. Melalui interaksi dengan materi museum, pengunjung dapat mengamati objek, karya seni, dan dokumen sejarah secara lebih detail. Narasi visual dan auditori dapat meningkatkan imajinasi pengunjung, menghasilkan pengalaman yang mengesankan dan menyenangkan, serta membantu museum menyampaikan informasi budaya dan sejarah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keterlibatan pengunjung dengan objek di ruang pameran yang menggunakan kombinasi konvensional serta teknologi. Studi kasus dilakukan dengan memahami respons pengunjung terhadap media interaktif di The Singapore Chinese Culture Centre dan Galeri Indonesia Kaya. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan analisis deskriptif. Multimedia interaktif menjadi alat penting dalam menciptakan pameran museum yang informatif, memberikan dampak emosional dan intelektual yang signifikan bagi pengunjung. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kebutuhan untuk mengetahui media apa saja yang bisa digunakan oleh museum untuk membantu menjelaskan konten kebudayaan dengan lebih efektif dan mendalam.

Abstract

Colonial buildings are one type of cultural heritage building in Indonesia, with several neglected and unused buildings. Historical buildings need to be preserved to be remembered, and their architecture can be studied and maintained. It will maintain and preserve the building by adaptive reuse of historic buildings that adapt to the current conditions and environment. This research aims to apply the adaptive reuse of cultural heritage buildings into youth activity centers with a Betawi cultural interior design approach. The methodology used in this research is literature study, observation, design thinking, and location survey. The case study of adaptive reuse of cultural heritage buildings also analyzes the side effects and influences. Cultural heritage buildings are full of history and have been passed down from generation to generation. Adaptive reuse of cultural heritage buildings as a youth activity center with Betawi culture aims to become a special place to facilitate positive activities for teenagers, provide education, and preserve Betawi culture. The conclusion states that reusing cultural heritage buildings can build awareness about preserving culture and youth activity center strategies by showing positive value for society and the environment.
