Abstract

This study explores the relationship between Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Climate Change Education (CCE), focusing on their roles in addressing global environmental challenges. Through a bibliometric analysis of 468 scientific publications indexed in Scopus from 2015 to 2025, key themes such as sustainability, climate change, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were identified as central to research in these fields. The findings emphasize the increasing importance of interdisciplinary approaches, emotional engagement, and the integration of ESD and CCE into curricula. The study also highlights the critical role of teacher education and the need for more sustainable practices in higher education, particularly in light of international student mobility. The research underscores the need to embed ESD and CCE into educational policies and frameworks to advance the global sustainability agenda. The bibliometric mapping reveals that publication output has grown sharply since 2020, with Walter Leal Filho, Maria Ojala, and Janet Richardson emerging as the most influential authors, while co-word analysis identifies transformative learning, systems thinking, and eco-anxiety as rapidly emerging research frontiers that bridge ESD and CCE.

Abstract

Abstract: The sustainability of local cassava-based food (rasi) in the Cireundeu Indigenous Community faces challenges due to modernization and social change, particularly among younger generations. Although Kampung Adat Cireundeu has been studied widely in terms of food security and local wisdom, research that specifically examines the mechanism of knowledge transfer within family education as the foundation for the sustainability of rasi as local food remains limited. This study aims to describe the role of family education in the knowledge transfer process related to the preservation of local food values and practices. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Research participants consisted of traditional leaders, heads of families, and youth selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using an interactive and cyclical model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that families function as the central agents of knowledge transfer through role modeling, habituation, direct interaction, and the involvement of younger generations in rasi processing and consumption practices. The knowledge transmission process occurs informally and is integrated into daily life and customary activities, such as the kurasan tradition. Family education not only transmits technical skills related to rasi processing but also instills philosophical values, cultural identity, and awareness of local food security. Active youth participation reflects the continuity of intergenerational knowledge transmission, although it continues to face challenges from modernization and shifting consumption patterns. The novelty of this study lies in mapping the family-based mechanism of knowledge transfer that integrates role modeling, habituation, advice, supervision, the kurasan customary tradition, and the transformation of meaning-delivery from traditional commands to rational-scientific explanations adapted to the younger generation’s logical reasoning. This study highlights the significant contribution of family education to sustaining local food systems and preserving indigenous cultural identity.

Abstract

The Community Learning Center (CLC) in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, provides basic education for the children of Indonesian migrant workers, but the teachers face challenges with digital literacy, pedagogical competence, and professional isolation due to the center's remote location on a plantation. This community service activity aims to develop and implement an e-collaborative learning platform to strengthen CLC teachers' competencies through a continuous, technology-integrated capacity-building model. The program is implemented through six participatory stages based on the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) and Outcome-Based Education frameworks. This includes a needs analysis, the design of a WordPress-based platform called EduKolab, and interactive training on quality assurance, andragogy, and digital learning for participating teachers. This activity was attended by 20 CLC teachers from various regions in Sabah. The evaluation combined pre- and post-tests with the TPACK Likert-scale instrument and reflective interviews, and analyzed them using N-Gain and thematic analysis. Teachers demonstrated substantial improvements across all competency indicators, reflected in increased digital self-efficacy, the formation of cross-site professional learning communities, and a stronger understanding of andragogical principles in serving adult learners. Integrating TPACK with social constructivism and adult learning principles effectively addresses teacher competency gaps in cross-border educational contexts and offers a replicable model for other CLC.
