Abstract

The palm oil industry plays a pivotal role in Indonesia’s economy and contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, concerns regarding economic, environmental, and social sustainability highlight the urgent need to promote sustainable agricultural practices. This study examines potential challenges in implementing the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification system in 2025 and develops a comprehensive adoption model by integrating Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation (DOI). The model incorporates eight factors: attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability. Structured questionnaires were administered to 300 independent smallholder palm oil farmers in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and the data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings confirm that attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, relative advantage, compatibility, and trialability positively and significantly influence the adoption of sustainable farming practices, while complexity exerts a significant negative effect. Observability showed no significant impact. These results provide valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners to design targeted strategies, programs, and policies that strengthen social norms, enhance perceived behavioral control, and emphasize the relative advantage and compatibility of sustainable practices. By fostering voluntary adoption among independent smallholders, the successful implementation of ISPO can be ensured, benefiting both farmers and the environment.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan mitra dalam pengelolaan tanah Ultisol melalui penerapan pertanian organik terpadu. Pelaksanaan dilakukan di Desa Teluk Bakung, Kecamatan Sungai Ambawang, Kabupaten Kubu Raya, dengan metode observasi, wawancara, dan praktik langsung sistem tumpangsari singkong dan kedelai yang didukung aplikasi abu boiler kelapa sawit, biochar, dan pupuk organik cair. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kualitas tanah melalui perbaikan struktur, penurunan keasaman, serta meningkatnya pertumbuhan vegetatif tanaman. Mitra juga memperoleh manfaat ekonomi dari komoditas yang dihasilkan dan mampu menerapkan teknik budidaya organik secara mandiri. Selain itu, penerapan sistem tumpangsari terbukti meningkatkan efisiensi lahan dan memperkuat kolaborasi antara akademisi dan mitra. Simpulan dari kegiatan ini adalah bahwa pemanfaatan sumber daya organik lokal dan sistem pertanian organik terpadu merupakan pendekatan efektif untuk meningkatkan produktivitas dan keberlanjutan pengelolaan tanah Ultisol.

Abstract

Photosynthetic Bacteria (PSB) provide an environmentally friendly alternative to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers while improving farmers' knowledge and technical skills in sustainable agriculture. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of corn farmers in producing and applying PSB in Rasau Jaya Satu Village, Kubu Raya Regency. The program employed a participatory approach consisting of observation, counseling, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and interactive discussions. Farmers actively learned PSB preparation, application techniques, and its benefits for corn cultivation. The results showed improved participant understanding and practical competence in independently producing PSB using affordable and locally available materials. The training also increased farmers' awareness of environmentally friendly farming practices and encouraged the adoption of sustainable agricultural technologies. Overall, the program demonstrates that participatory training effectively strengthens farmers' capacity, promotes the use of biological inputs as an alternative to chemical fertilizers, and supports the development of sustainable and environmentally responsible corn farming systems.
