Abstract

The rapid growth of Indonesia’s Islamic finance industry contrasts with persistently low Islamic financial literacy, particularly among university students as future professionals. This study aims to synthesize existing literature to develop an integrative framework for embedding Islamic financial literacy within higher education curricula, identify multi-level implementation barriers, and propose adaptive strategies aligned with digital transformation. Using a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR), this study analyzes ten peer-reviewed publications published between 2021 and 2025 through content and thematic analysis. The findings indicate that effective integration requires a holistic curriculum design encompassing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies, supported by institutional readiness, lecturer capacity, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. Major barriers emerge at the micro, meso, and macro levels, including superficial digital literacy, limited interdisciplinary expertise among lecturers, fragmented institutional policies, and weak coordination between academia, industry, and regulators. This study demonstrates that digital transformation offers strategic opportunities to strengthen Islamic financial literacy through interactive, experiential, and community-based learning, provided it is accompanied by the development of critical and ethical financial reasoning. The main contribution of this research lies in proposing an integrative framework that connects curriculum design, implementation barriers, and adaptive strategies within a value-based and digitalized education context, offering theoretical and practical implications for higher education institutions and policymakers.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the fiqh transformation of Musyarakah Mutanaqisah as a Sharia-based financing model in Indonesia by assessing the alignment between fiqh theory, the DSN–MUI fatwa, and banking practices. Although Musyarakah Mutanaqisah is conceptually grounded in partnership, gradual ownership, and risk sharing, its implementation across Islamic banks demonstrates a persistent tendency to resemble conventional credit structures, particularly through fixed rental margins, limited transparency, and weak risk-sharing mechanisms. This research employs a library-based qualitative approach using a normative–maqasidi framework combined with critical–empirical analysis. The findings indicate that the reconstruction of Musyarakah Mutanaqisah must be oriented towards the substantive realisation of Maqasid al-Shariah, particularly justice, public interest, and the protection of wealth. Reformulation is required in contractual structures, accounting systems, Sharia supervision, and the integration of sustainability values. Accordingly, Musyarakah Mutanaqisah holds the potential to evolve into a more equitable, transparent, and welfare-oriented Sharia financing instrument.

Abstract

The rapid development of the Islamic financial industry in the digital era demands a conceptual reconstruction of classical Islamic financial contracts to ensure their relevance as a foundation for innovation in modern Islamic financial products. This study aims to analyze the relevance of classical contracts in contemporary Islamic financial products, identify shifts in contract implementation due to digitalization and fintech sharia, evaluate the suitability of the implementation of contracts with the principles of al-sharī'ah, and formulate a conceptual model for adaptive contract innovation that is still based on muamalah jurisprudence. The method used is qualitative with a qualitative approach. Library research, using content analysis techniques, comparative analysis, and normative interpretation based oninyesūl al-fiqh. The results of the study show that classical contracts such asjamḥah, inḍārabah, musyārakah, pilgrimage, wait, regards, and hotyesthehas sufficient normative elasticity to accommodate digital financial innovation, but their implementation still experiences many distortions that are contrary to the substancepoetyesid al-sharī'ahThis research formulates a conceptual model of contract innovation based on four pillars: adaptive normative reinterpretation, integration of Sharia-based technology, reconstruction of equitable risk distribution, and strengthening of Sharia governance. This model offers a framework that can synergistically and sustainably bridge the authority of classical Islamic jurisprudence texts with the pragmatic demands of the modern Islamic financial industry

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the acculturation between Islamic values and Minangkabau local culture in the Tabuik ritual in Pariaman through the perspective of al-'urf in usul al-fiqh. Historically rooted in the Shia tradition, the Tabuik ritual has undergone transformation along three dimensions, namely theological, social-functional, and symbolic, since the nineteenth century, developing into a cultural identity of the Sunni community in Pariaman. Theologically, its grounding in martyrdom has been reframed as a moral commemoration of resistance to injustice. Socially, a minority sectarian practice has developed into a community-wide tradition emphasizing solidarity, mutual cooperation, and gotong royong. Symbolically, the replica of Husain's tomb has been reconstituted as an icon of communal identity. This study employs a narrative literature review with a qualitative approach to analyze the elements of the Tabuik ritual based on the classification of urf sahih and urf fasid and assess the legitimacy of its practices under Islamic law. The findings indicate that the social dimensions of the ritual, including communal solidarity, mutual cooperation, and collective identity, can be categorized as urf sahih because they support the objectives of maqasid al-shariah. Conversely, practices involving beliefs in material blessings or supernatural powers with ritual objects tend to fall within urf fasid because they may conflict with the principle of tawhid. The discourse between puritan and cultural groups reflects tensions over Tabuik. This study contributes to understanding the flexibility of Islamic law in accommodating cultural diversity through selective and normative evaluation.

Abstract

This article is a conceptual paper based on historical-genealogical literature review that aims to build an intellectual genealogy model of Islamic economics. Previous studies have tended to address figures, institutions, or research trends separately (see e.g. single-figure studies, bibliometric studies, or historical studies of educational institutions), so there is no framework that brings these three elements together in a single analytical model. Based on a critical synthesis of 15 selected sources through the PRISMA protocol, this study offers a major contribution in the form of a triadic layered genealogy model that connects (1) the scholarly sanad of three influential classical scholars  Al-Ghazali, Ibn Khaldun, and Ibn Taymiyah  as a network that complements each other despite different emphasis (individual ethics, social dynamics, and state regulation); (2) Islamic educational institutions, from halaqah and madrassas to modern Islamic universities, as the node of transmission that most determines the sustainability of ideas across generations; and (3) adaptive transformation mechanisms through instruments such as waqf and shariah governance, which on the other hand are vulnerable to being distorted by neoliberal financialisation and epistemic hegemony, including halal-washing practices. Given that the scope of the study is limited to 15 selected literature, these findings are intended as an initial conceptual model, rather than a comprehensive generalization across eras and regions. This model is expected to be a foothold for the development of a curriculum based on intellectual genealogy and the strengthening of epistemological criticism of the commercialization of contemporary Islamic economics.
