Abstract

This research aims to determine the total levels of alkaloids and flavonoids in Bintangur plants (Calophyllum soullattri burm.f.) using the FTIR method and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The Bintangur plant is known to have various medicinal properties, such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. The extraction methods used include maceration, soxhletation, and reflux. The samples used were Bintangur leaves and bark, which were obtained from Tanjung Batu, Sorong City. The results showed that alkaloid and flavonoid levels could be detected well, providing a significant indication of the potential use of this plant in medicine. FTIR analysis was used to identify functional groups, while UV-Vis spectrophotometry was used to determine alkaloid and flavonoid concentrations. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the standardization of Bintangur extract in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as increasing understanding of the benefits of local medicinal plants in Indonesia. These findings are an important step in the development of safe and effective herbal products.

Abstract

The high prevalence of anemia prompted us to explore the potential of local herbs in Papua, Indonesia, which is known for its rich natural resources. In this study, we aim to conduct preclinical tests on anemia model test animals to validate the effectiveness of akway bark extract (ABE) as the basis for the development of effective and safe herbal antianemia drugs in the future. This study employs a quantitative analytical approach, utilizing an experimental design with a pre-posttest with a control group design. The research sample used 20 mice test animals, divided into 5 groups consisting of 4 animals each, namely: the control group (positive and negative), and the intervention group using ABE doses of 10, 30, and 50mg/kg. This study was approved by the Health Research Ethics Committee of STIFAR Makassar (Number: 299/EC.1.1.B/III/KEPK/2024). Data analysis showed that a 14-day intervention using ABE was able to increase Hb levels (D% = 52.00±27.13 [ABE dose 10mg/kg]; 49.72±7.86 [ABE dose 50mg/kg] and 42.82±12.75 [ABE dose 30mg/kg]) significantly (p<0.05) when compared with the negative control (D% = 4.54±5.14), but when compared with the positive control (D% = 52.57±10.85) the average increase in Hb levels was not significant (p>0.05). In conclusion, our study showed that mice of the anemia model, intervened using ABE at doses of 10, 30, and 50mg/kg once daily for 14 days, experienced increased Hb levels.

Abstract

Abstrak Malaria masih menjadi permasalahan kesehatan di wilayah Papua, sehingga pemanfaatan tumbuhan obat tradisional tetap menjadi pilihan utama masyarakat pedalaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemanfaatan tradisional tumbuhan Nelambo suon oleh masyarakat Suku Tehit di Distrik Teminabuan, Kabupaten Sorong Selatan, serta mengidentifikasi kandungan metabolit sekundernya melalui skrining fitokimia. Penelitian dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam kepada informan lokal untuk memperoleh data pengetahuan, pengalaman, cara penggunaan, dan keyakinan terhadap efektivitas tanaman tersebut, serta uji fitokimia secara kualitatif terhadap ekstrak kulit batang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kulit batang Nelambo suon secara turun-temurun digunakan sebagai obat antimalaria, dengan cara direbus dan airnya diminum dua kali sehari hingga gejala berkurang. Analisis responden menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan dan pengalaman tertinggi terdapat pada kelompok berpendidikan rendah (SD dan SMP), menandakan bahwa pengetahuan tradisional lebih dipengaruhi oleh pewarisan budaya dibandingkan pendidikan formal. Hasil skrining fitokimia menunjukkan adanya kandungan alkaloid, flavonoid, dan tanin, sedangkan saponin tidak terdeteksi. Senyawa-senyawa ini diketahui memiliki aktivitas antiplasmodium, antioksidan, serta antiinflamasi, sehingga mendukung potensi Nelambo suon sebagai kandidat obat tradisional antimalaria berbasis kearifan lokal. Kata Kunci: Etnofarmasi, Nelambo suon, antimalaria, skrining fitokimia. Abstract Malaria remains a major health problem in papua, making traditional medicinal plants an essential therapeutic option for remote communities. this study aims to describe the traditional use of nelambo suon by the tehit community in teminabuan district, south sorong regency, and to identify its secondary metabolites through phytochemical screening. data on traditional knowledge, experience, usage methods, and beliefs were collected through in-depth interviews with local informants, while qualitative phytochemical tests were performed on the stem bark extract. the results show that nelambo suon has been traditionally used for generations as an antimalarial remedy, prepared by boiling the stem bark and consuming the decoction twice daily until symptoms reduce. respondent analysis revealed that the highest levels of traditional knowledge and experience were found among those with lower formal education (elementary and junior high school), indicating that cultural transmission plays a greater role than formal schooling. phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins, while saponins were absent. these compounds possess antiplasmodial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, supporting the potential of nelambo suon as a traditional antimalarial agent grounded in local wisdom. Abstract

as having potential as a natural antioxidant agent. One potential way to utilize this plant is by innovating it into an isotonic drink product. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity of an isotonic drink formulated with yellow rope stem extract. Methods: he extraction process was conducted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol as the solvent. The isotonic drink was developed into three formulas, which were then tested for their physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. Results: The results indicated that the best formula was FII, with an overall hedonic score of 4,6 (neutral). All three formulas showed identical pH values (4,0) and Total Soluble Solids (TSS) of 7%, while the total acidity decreased progressively: FI (1,024%), FII (0,896%), and FIII (0,704%). The isotonic drinks from yellow rope stem extract for formulas FI, FII, and FIII produced IC50 values of 35,61, 46,56, and 57,69 μg/mL, respectively. Based on these data, FI and FII were identified as having very strong antioxidant intensity, while the FIII showed activity classified in the strong category. Conclusion:.The test results demonstrate that the isotonic drink made from yellow rope stem extract exhibits antioxidant potential with intensity levels ranging from strong to very strong.

Abstract

The analytical methods used to analyze ginsenoside compounds include TLC, HPTLC, HPLC, UPLC, GC and MS. The HPLC method is the most widely used analytical technique with various combinations of UV detection or with ELSD. The HPLC method is a method of separating and purifying chemical compounds or medicinal compounds. To study new information from optimization for the separation of ginsenoside Re and ginsenoside Rg1 compounds, then validate the analytical method to show that the method provides accurate results in accordance with the requirements. The data and information used in this review article come from national and international journals. The data and information search method was carried out using the literature research method. keywords: "Optimization of Separation and Method Validation of Ginsenoside Compounds using the HPLC method" with a journal publication period 2019-2023. Of the 35 research articles found, only 9 journals met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Studies on ginsenoside compounds Re and Rg1 in ginseng plants are still not well separated. So it’s still necessary to optimize the analytical method using the HPLC method and then validate the analytical method to show that the method provides accurate results in accordance with the requirements.

Abstract

Meningkatnya kejadian resistensi terhadap antibiotik mendorong pengembangan agen antibakteri alternatif yang berasal dari bahan alam, salah satunya daun sirih hutan (Piper aduncum L.). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder, mengukur diameter zona hambat, serta menganalisis pengaruh variasi konsentrasi ekstrak terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus epidermidis. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen laboratorium dengan tahap ekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi memakai pelarut etanol 96%, dilanjutkan skrining fitokimia, serta pengujian aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi cakram. Ekstrak diuji pada tiga variasi konsentrasi, yaitu 25%, 50%, dan 75%, dengan doxycycline sebagai kontrol positif serta aquadest pro injection sebagai kontrol negatif. Data hasil pengujian dianalisis secara statistik menggunakan uji One-Way ANOVA yang dilanjutkan dengan uji Post Hoc Bonferroni untuk melihat perbedaan antar kelompok perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rendemen ekstrak sebesar 18,1% dengan kandungan metabolit sekunder berupa alkaloid, flavonoid, dan tanin. Hasil uji antibakteri memperlihatkan adanya aktivitas penghambatan terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis dengan rata-rata diameter zona hambat sebesar 1,03 mm pada konsentrasi 25%, 1,6 mm pada 50%, dan 2,6 mm pada 75%. Seluruh hasil tersebut termasuk dalam kategori daya hambat lemah. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak daun sirih hutan memiliki potensi sebagai antibakteri, namun efektivitasnya masih rendah sehingga diperlukan penelitian lanjutan melalui peningkatan konsentrasi atau fraksinasi senyawa aktif untuk memperoleh hasil yang lebih optimal.

Abstract

Infeksi bakteri masih menjadi masalah kesehatan yang serius, salah satunya disebabkan oleh Staphylococcus aureus. Penggunaan antibiotik yang tidak rasional dapat menimbulkan resistensi, sehingga diperlukan alternatif antibakteri dari bahan alam. Tangkai pinang (Areca catechu Lam.) memiliki potensi sebagai antibakteri karena kandungan senyawa metabolit sekundernya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak tangkai pinang terhadap bakteri S. aureus serta pengaruh variasi konsentrasi terhadap zona hambat yang dihasilkan. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 70%, dilakukan pengujian antibakteri metode difusi cakram pada konsentrasi 3%, 4%, dan 5%. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas Shapiro–Wilk, uji homogenitas, uji One Way ANOVA, serta uji lanjut Games-Howell. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terbentuknya zona hambat pada semua konsentrasi yaitu 1,3 mm; 1,6 mm; dan 5,41 mm, yang meningkat seiring kenaikan konsentrasi. Analisis One Way ANOVA menunjukkan adanya perbedaan signifikan (p < 0,05). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak tangkai pinang (A. catechu Lam.) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap S. aureus dalam kategori lemah pada konsentrasi 3% dan 4%, kategori sedang pada konsentrasi 5%.

Abstract

Jerawat vulgaris adalah kondisi kulit yang dapat dipicu oleh infeksi bakteri Propionibacterium acnes. Penggunaan antibiotik yang berlebihan membawa risiko resistensi antibiotik, oleh karena itu dibutuhkan terapi alternatif berbasis bahan alami. Salah satu terapi tersebut berasal dari daun Kawista (Limonia acidissima L.). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan kandungan senyawa sekunder tumbuhan, mengevaluasi kemanjuran antibakteri ekstrak daun Kawista, dan menganalisis pengaruh berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak terhadap P. acnes. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan maserasi menggunakan etanol 70%, diikuti dengan analisis fitokimia dan pengujian kemanjuran antibakteri menggunakan uji difusi cakram pada konsentrasi 25%, 50%, dan 75%. Analisis menunjukkan adanya alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, dan saponin. Zona inhibisi masing-masing adalah 0,91 mm, 1,21 mm, dan 1,31 mm. Analisis varians satu arah (ANOVA) menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antar kelompok (p < 0,05), sedangkan uji Games-Howell tidak menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antar konsentrasi ekstrak. Singkatnya, ekstrak daun Kawista menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri terhadap P. acnes, tetapi efikasinya lebih rendah daripada kontrol positif.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus adalah bakteri yang menyebabkan berbagai infeksi kulit. Meningkatnya resistensi antibiotik telah mendorong eksplorasi agen antibakteri dari sumber alami, termasuk kulit pinang (Areca catechu L.) yang telah terbukti mengandung senyawa bioaktif antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kandungan metabolit sekunder serta mengevaluasi efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak kulit buah pinang yang berasal dari Kabupaten Sorong terhadap S. aureus. Proses ekstraksi dilakukan menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 70%, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan uji fitokimia dan pengujian efektivitas antibakteri metode difusi cakram pada konsentrasi 4%, 8%, dan 16%. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji ANOVA satu arah. Hasil memperoleh rendemen ekstrak sebesar 6,2%  mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, dan tanin. Diameter rata-rata zona hambat tercatat pada konsentrasi 4% (1,97 mm), 8% (2,3 mm), dan 16% (4,5 mm) termasuk kategori lemah. Analisis One Way ANOVA menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (p < 0,05), sedangkan uji Post Hoc Games-Howell mengkonfirmasi bahwa konsentrasi 16% berbeda secara signifikan dibandingkan dengan 4% dan 8%. Simpulan menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit buah pinang (A. catechu L.) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap S. aureus yang ditunjukkan oleh terbentuknya zona hambat. Namun, efektivitas daya hambatnya masih lebih rendah dibandingkan kontrol positif, konsentrasi 16% memberikan perbedaan paling signifikan dibandingkan 4% dan 8%.
