Abstract

This study examines the trends and implementation of game-based learning (GBL) in primary school mathematics learning, integrating global perspectives and the Indonesian context. This study aims to: (1) identify post-2021 GBL design trends (digital vs. non-digital), (2) explore the determinants of successful implementation across different geographical contexts, and (3) analyze the synergistic role of teachers and technology in reducing the risk of disruption. A systematic literature review (SLR) following the PRISMA protocol was conducted by analyzing 15 Scopus-indexed international articles (2021-2025). Findings show that developed countries adopt more AI/AR-based digital GBL and adaptive apps, while Indonesia emphasizes hybrid approaches (culture-based board games, physical-digital integration) and affordable technologies. Key success factors include teacher-developer collaboration, technical training and cultural relevance, although challenges such as the digital divide (30% of rural schools without computers) and overly complex designs persist. Teacher-led scaffolding-based learning (pre/post-game guidance, time management) and technology-based tools (instant feedback, adaptive difficulty levels) synergistically reduced distractions, aligning with ZPD and Flow Theory principles. This study confirms the importance of glocalization - integrating global innovations with local contexts to support inclusive, adaptive and sustainable mathematics learning. The implications call for policy reforms to address infrastructure gaps, teacher capacity building and context-sensitive GBL design.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of Articulate Storyline-based interactive learning media in the context of learning in elementary schools through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. A total of 25 articles from national and international journals published between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed to identify the contribution of this media to improving students' learning outcomes, motivation, understanding, science literacy, and critical thinking skills. The results showed that Articulate Storyline can present learning materials interactively and engagingly through visual, audio, simulation, and self-evaluation features, thus creating an adaptive and meaningful learning experience. This media is proven effective in various subjects such as science, social studies, mathematics, Indonesian language, and Pancasila education for elementary school students. Despite its many benefits, implementation challenges such as infrastructure limitations and differences in student learning styles are still a concern. Therefore, further research is needed to explore solutions and expand the application of this media in various educational contexts. This study provides important recommendations for teachers and education practitioners in developing innovative digital learning media according to the needs and characteristics of learners in the digital era.

Abstract

The use of innovative learning media has been considered a strategic effort to enhance teaching effectiveness at the elementary school level, especially for conceptual subjects such as the human digestive system. In Dili, Timor-Leste, limited access to contextual learning media and the lack of pedagogical training for teachers have been identified as real challenges in the learning process. This community service activity was designed to improve the skills of elementary school teachers in Dili in utilizing the LUPI (Ludo Monopoli) learning media for the topic of the digestive system. LUPI is an interactive educational media based on a board game, which was developed to facilitate student understanding in an active and enjoyable manner. The implementation method was composed of training, direct practice, reflective discussion, and skills evaluation. The activity was conducted for two days at Universidade Católica Timorense (UCT) São João Paulo II and was participated in by 10 local elementary school teachers. Significant improvements were shown in teachers' understanding of digestive system concepts and in their ability to design and implement the LUPI media in teaching. Moreover, it was stated by the teachers that the use of LUPI increased student engagement, clarified concepts, and encouraged interest in learning. It is recommended that follow-up training based on thematic curriculum and replication of similar media for other topics be provided. The collaboration between educational institutions from Indonesia and Timor-Leste has been proven effective in addressing cross-national pedagogical challenges through an approach rooted in local wisdom and educational games.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using interactive StoryMath media based on Articulate Storyline in improving mathematical literacy of students at San Carlos Manlewana Elementary School. The background of this study is based on the low mathematical literacy skills of students which are still relatively low, as well as the need for more interesting, contextual, and interactive learning methods. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest design on 60 fifth grade students at San Carlos Manlewana Elementary School. Data were collected through mathematical literacy tests, observations, questionnaires, and teacher interviews. The results showed a significant increase in students' mathematical literacy scores after using StoryMath media, namely from an average of 58 in the pretest to 83 in the posttest. In addition, teachers reported that this media made it easier to convey abstract concepts, increase learning motivation, and active student participation during the learning process. Qualitative evaluation also revealed that students felt more interested and helped in understanding mathematical material through contextual and interactive stories. This finding is in line with the theory of experiential learning and the results of previous studies which confirm that interactive narrative-based learning media can improve student understanding and engagement. This study recommends the implementation of StoryMath media as an innovation in mathematics learning in elementary schools to support the development of effective and enjoyable mathematical literacy. The practical implications and further development of this media are also discussed as an effort to improve the quality of elementary education in the digital era.

Abstract

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) industry in Kampung Batik Gedong, Semarang, has made a significant contribution to the local economy through the production of Semarang's signature batik. However, this production activity produces liquid waste containing synthetic dyes and heavy metals, which have a negative impact on the environment. The lack of effective waste processing technology and the low knowledge and skills of MSMEs in waste management are major challenges that require immediate solutions. This community service program aims to increase the capacity of MSMEs in managing liquid waste sustainably through the application of electrolysis technology and integrated training. The activities are carried out in five stages: preparation, socialization, application, monitoring, and evaluation. The data collection method involves measuring the level of knowledge using pretests and posttests, as well as assessing skills through direct assessments by the service team. The target of the program's success is to increase the understanding of MSMEs implementer by 80% and skills by 75% after training. Electrolysis technology is applied to reduce the concentration of dyes and heavy metals in liquid waste, while training is provided to improve the understanding and technical skills of MSMEs implementer. The results of this program are expected to include reducing the level of liquid waste pollution, increasing the technical capacity of MSMEs implementer, and increasing awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability. Thus, this program supports environmental conservation, the sustainability of the batik industry, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDGs 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDGs 13 (Action on Climate Change), and SDGs 14 (Life Below Water).

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze the application of e-modules in primary education and evaluate their effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes. The method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR), which involves collecting and analyzing articles published between 2020 and 2025 related to the use of e-modules in primary schools. The research data was collected from various credible academic database sources, including Google Scholar, SINTA, DOAJ, ResearchGate, and Scopus resulting in 27 relevant articles for analysis. The results showed that the application of e-modules is very effective in increasing students' learning motivation, improving material understanding, and developing critical thinking skills. Technology-based e-modules, such as flipbooks and blended learning models, can increase interactivity in learning and make it easier for students to learn independently. In addition, the integration of local wisdom and character values in e-modules plays an important role in student character building. E-modules are an effective solution to the challenges of education in the digital era. Its application in elementary schools can improve the quality of learning, provide an interesting learning experience, and support the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum. Therefore, the development and wider application of e-modules is highly recommended to support the learning process in primary schools. Keywords: Learning Media, E-Module, Elementary School

Abstract

Water is essential to human life because it is the main foundation for survival. The service aims to collaborate with Gemulak Sayung Village, Demak Regency, and Jawa Tengah coastal communities to obtain a decent drinking water supply from rainwater treatment using electrolysis science and technology. The stages of service implementation were carried out through observation, training in making simple electrolysis equipment, monitoring, and evaluation. On observation, the problem was obtained: water availability is still minimal for consumption. Implement training in making electrolysis equipment that can be applied in their homes. Monitoring and evaluation are carried out to ensure the sustainability of the service implementation. The service results showed that participants learned about the benefits of rainwater and simple processing technology using electrolysis to produce electrolyzed water in alkaline and acidic water. 95% of participants wanted the service process to be continued because it benefited the Gemulak Village, Sayung, and Demak communities.

Abstract

Community service was carried out to improve financial literacy and entrepreneurial spirit in participants, namely Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan. The implementation of this activity was attended by 20 participants and took place at the Indonesian Trade and Economic Office in Taipei, Taiwan. The problem experienced by partners was the lack of ability to plan finances while working as Indonesian workers in Taiwan, so that when they retire there was no business or business to manage. Usually Indonesian migrant workers send income while in Taiwan to their families in Indonesia as daily living expenses and to build a house. The program methods used in this activity include partner observation, preparation, training and evaluation. During the implementation, a questionnaire was distributed in the form of a google form. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in knowledge about financial management for Indonesian migrant workers reaching 85%, an increase in skills in making entrepreneurial plans by 80% and motivation to become entrepreneurs after returning from Taiwan by 95%.

Abstract

Tugu Village in Demak Regency frequently experiences disasters such as coastal erosion and inundation due to tidal activities and the reclamation of Marina Beach in Semarang, which borders Sayung District. These conditions negatively impact the local economy, necessitating a solution to enhance food self-sufficiency. One approach taken is the cultivation of catfish in barrels (budikdamber) using an aquaponic system to grow water spinach, supported by the Internet of Things (IoT). The target audience for this community service activity is the women in Tugu Village affected by flooding. The program was implemented in five stages: observation and coordination, socialization, training, technology application, mentoring, and evaluation. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test instruments. Before the program, participants' understanding of aquaponic budikdamber was only 32.5%, but after the program, it increased sharply to 95%. Participants' understanding of pellet-making also saw a significant increase, from 10% before the program to 90% afterward. This data indicates that the program implementation successfully improved participants' understanding.

Abstract

Water is an essential resource, crucial for human survival and well-being. In coastal areas like Sayung District, Demak Regency, Central Java, accessing clean drinking water is a significant challenge. This problem is made worse by environmental issues such as tidal flooding, known locally as "rob," which causes the groundwater to become salty and undrinkable. To address this urgent issue, the UNNES (Universitas Negeri Semarang) community service team has launched a project aimed at using rainwater as a source of safe drinking water. The project follows several key steps: first, assessing the current situation to understand the needs and resources of the community; second, training local residents on how to use electrolysis to convert rainwater into potable water; and third, evaluating the effectiveness of the training and the results achieved. The outcomes of this project have been highly positive. The community has gained valuable knowledge about rainwater treatment technologies, developed skills in building electrolysis equipment, and successfully produced fresh water from rainwater. This initiative not only helps to meet the immediate water needs of the community but also provides them with a sustainable solution for their future water needs.
