Abstract

The cultivation of 21st-century competencies within a constructivist learning environment opens avenues for students to discover their distinct strengths. Unfortunately, educators frequently neglect effective teaching models, hindering the creation of an ideal learning environment in literary education. This study examined how the 7E Learning Cycle Model impacts student performance in Popular Fiction classes. Additionally, it sought to uncover challenges faced by instructors teaching the Popular Fiction course and explore how they employ the 7E model to establish a conducive learning environment, ensuring successful outcomes in Popular Fiction classes. This study adopted Classroom Action Research. Data gathered through popular fiction analysis test, interview, observation, peer assessment, and other relevant documents. The study was conducted in the English Language Education Study Program of UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. 39 third semester students actively involved in seven week-learning popular fictions by using 7E Cycle Model. The research demonstrated notable improvements in Cycle I and Cycle II, with post-test scores rising from an average pre-test score of 63.23 to 79.59. In Cycle II, 82.01% of students achieved "Good" and "Very Good" ratings, indicating substantial progress. Positive outcomes encompassed active engagement, collaboration, independent knowledge construction, skill development, profound understanding, heightened critical thinking, and real-life context application. These results fostered sustained interest and motivation in the continuous learning cycle. Pedagogically, the study recommends the ongoing integration of the 7E Learning Model into the Popular Fiction curriculum, refining collaborative learning, and integrating technology for enhanced teaching effectiveness while addressing any limitations.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the types of talk used by an English teacher during classroom interaction at MTs Humaira Kota Bengkulu and examines how these strategies facilitate student engagement. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the teacher employed various communicative strategies, such as praising, asking questions, giving directions, and incorporating students’ ideas resulting in increased participation and understanding. The teacher also utilized code-switching, tone modulation, and strategic gestures to support student comprehension. The novelty of this research lies in its specific focus on classroom discourse within the madrasah context, which has been underrepresented in previous studies. Abstract

This research seeks to explore the perception of the fourth-semester Social Sciences students regarding the use of ChatGPT as a tool for English language learning at UINFAS Bengkulu, particularly concerning learning autonomy, critical thinking skills, and ethical considerations. The study utilized a descriptive qualitative method within the UTAUT2 framework. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis with ten purposively sampled participants. Students largely view ChatGPT primarily as a transactional tool for quickly gaining access to vocabulary, translation, and even the completion of assignments. While there are perceived outputs and limitations such as inaccuracies (90% of respondents), risks of output creativity (70%) that are noted, there is still a practical adoption owing to the device’s usability and immediacy. Performance expectancy along with peer influence, hedonic motivation, and institutional guidance that is absent also remain as key adoption drivers. There are fears of stunting personal initiative and promoting skill stagnation through unrestricted autonomous control. This study applies UTAUT2 for the first time regarding the use of ChatGPT in learning English in a non-Western multilingual setting—Indonesia. It constructs distinct user profiles “critical pragmatists,” “intellectual minimalists and describes “critical passivity,” which is the behavioral unresponsiveness to limitations of awareness, which has not been captured in previous literature. The research results set forth tangible approaches to address the AI-academic integrity imbalance, such as the development of pedagogical frameworks incorporating AI, curricula on digital literacy, and institutional governance. This addresses the myriad shortcomings of the theories of acceptance of technology and is a contribution towards Global South educational settings grappled with AI incorporation.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of collaborative learning on the English proficiency of fifth-grade EFL students at SDN 60 Bengkulu Utara. Employing a quantitative one-group pre-test–post-test design, data were collected from 24 students using a standardized English proficiency test that assessed vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, and grammar skills. Pre-test results revealed that 79.2% of students were in the “low” category and 12.5% in the “very low” category. Following the implementation of collaborative learning, post-test results showed a marked improvement, with 66.7% of students achieving the “high” category and 33.3% the “very high” category, and none remaining in the lower categories. The mean score rose significantly from 39.58 to 72.13. A paired-sample t-test confirmed the statistical significance of this improvement (p<0.05). These findings demonstrate that collaborative learning substantially enhances the English proficiency of young learners, not only raising academic achievement but also fostering motivation, participation, and teamwork. The study underscores the effectiveness of collaborative learning in resource-limited rural schools, offering empirical support for its broader integration into elementary EFL instruction.

Abstract

This study explores students’ perceptions of using podcasts as a tool to enhance English speaking skills among fourth-semester students at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The findings reveal that students have generally positive perceptions of podcasts due to their accessibility, authenticity, and flexibility. Podcasts are perceived to contribute significantly to speaking development, particularly in pronunciation, vocabulary, intonation, and confidence. Many students find podcasts more engaging than traditional materials and appreciate the opportunity to listen to native speakers in natural contexts. However, the study also identifies challenges, including difficulties in understanding accents, lack of visuals, and limited access for some students. Although podcasts are not consistently integrated into formal instruction, students report that regular podcast usage improves their speaking fluency and reduces anxiety. The study concludes that podcasts are effective and enjoyable learning tools, but their implementation should be adapted to individual learning preferences and supported by other resources. The results suggest that podcasts hold great potential in technology-integrated language learning and should be more systematically utilized in EFL classrooms.
