Abstract

This PKM is an effort to increase the knowledge and understanding of the elderly at the Rindang Asih II Bongsari Nursing Home about the management of preventive and promotive polyneuropathy physiotherapy, by holding socialization and promotional and preventive training for neuropathy conditions in the elderly due to diabetes. The main target of this PKM is to provide assistance and train the elderly and caregivers of the Rindang Asih II Bongsari Nursing Home. The methods used range from providing counseling, discussion, socialization, and training on preventive and promotive polyneuropathy methods for the elderly and caregivers of the Rindang Asih II Bongsari Nursing Home on how to prevent pain, control glucose levels, and restore function in elderly neuropathy sufferers due to diabetes. The budget and schedule for the implementation of the proposed community service are very relevant or in accordance with the activities that have been carried out. The activity plan for this PKM program is a) Pre-field survey, b) Preparation of training tools and materials, c) Preparation of understanding methods, d) Socialization and training on preventive and promotive polyneuropathy methods, e) Assistance, f) evaluation, g) Making ongoing programs. Based on the results of the socialization and training, it can be concluded that significant results were obtained, namely that the elderly and caregivers of the Rindang Asih II Bongsari Nursing Home from 20 people who did not understand at all now understand how to carry out preventive and promotive polyneuropathy due to diabetes.

Abstract

Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy caused by compression of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel. This condition is frequently associated with repetitive and prolonged hand activities, resulting in pain, paresthesia, limited range of motion (ROM), decreased muscle strength, and impaired hand function. Physiotherapy interventions, including ultrasound therapy, stretching, and Upper Limb Tension Test (ULTT) exercise, are commonly applied to reduce symptoms and improve functional performance. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a combination of ultrasound therapy, stretching exercise, and Upper Limb Tension Test (ULTT) exercise in reducing pain and paresthesia and improving joint range of motion, muscle strength, and hand functional ability in a patient with right-sided Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). Methods: This study employed a case report design involving a patient with right Carpal Tunnel Syndrome who received four physiotherapy sessions. The interventions consisted of ultrasound therapy, stretching, and ULTT exercise. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), paresthesia assessment, range of motion measurement, Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), and the Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (BCTS) Index. Results: Following four treatment sessions, the patient demonstrated reduced pain and paresthesia, improved range of motion, increased muscle strength, and better functional ability, as reflected by an improvement in the BCTS Index score. Conclusion: The combination of ultrasound therapy, stretching, and ULTT exercise provided favorable clinical outcomes in a patient with right Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. These interventions were associated with reduced pain and paresthesia, enhanced joint mobility, increased muscle strength, and improved functional hand performance after four treatment sessions.
