Abstract

This study aims to measure the influence of waqf literacy, relative advantage, religiosity, and attitude on waqf intention among Generation Z, specifically Muslim university students in Indonesia. The respondents were 505 Gen-Z students, specifically Muslim students born between 1996 and 2012 in Indonesia who have ever donated to waqf, with primary data collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) technique. In addition, the data were also analyzed using maqashid sharia theory to see the impact of waqf benefits on individuals and society in general. The results show that waqf literacy, perceived benefits of waqf activities, and religiosity level positively contribute to individuals' attitudes towards waqf, influencing Generation Z's intention to participate in waqf activities. As a form of charity derived from the Prophet Muhammad's sunnah, waqf is essential in achieving the maqashid, particularly in protecting wealth (hifz al-mal) and improving social welfare. Therefore, increasing waqf literacy through programs such as the Indonesian Waqf Awareness Movement (GISWAF), as well as improving convenience, accessibility, and regulatory clarity in waqf practices, are proposed to strengthen positive attitudes towards waqf and encourage greater participation of Generation Z in waqf activities.

Abstract

This study seeks to identify and analyse the challenges and opportunities associated with the development of halal tourism in Indonesia, a strategic sector within an Islamic value-based tourism economy. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research draws upon secondary data sourced from academic literature, industry reports, policy documents, and publications issued by relevant public institutions. The analysis adopts a content analysis method to trace patterns, dominant issues, and inter-actor relationships in the national development of halal tourism. Findings suggest that Indonesia possesses substantial potential to emerge as a leading halal tourism destination, owing to demographic advantages, cultural richness, and destination diversity. Nonetheless, several obstacles persist, including limited Muslim-friendly infrastructure, low halal literacy among industry stakeholders, and inadequate inter-agency coordination. These findings bear theoretical implications for strengthening halal tourism as a multidimensional construct, as well as managerial implications for policymakers and industry players in designing inclusive, sustainable, and adaptive development strategies responsive to the needs of global Muslim travellers. The study also opens pathways for future empirical investigations, including quantitative approaches or destination-specific case studies.

Abstract

The low level of wealth distribution literacy based on mawaris principles among urban Muslim families has the potential to generate injustice and conflict within households. This community service activity aimed to enhance the understanding and awareness of urban Muslim families regarding the importance of applying mawaris principles in family wealth distribution. The activity was conducted at the PKK Women’s Community of Wiyung Brantas Permai on April 19, 2025, involving 23 participants. An educative and participatory approach was employed through interactive lectures, group discussions, case studies, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ understanding of the basic concepts and mechanisms of mawaris, accompanied by changes in attitudes and awareness toward planning family wealth distribution in accordance with Islamic principles. The activity also received positive responses from participants and has the potential to generate sustainable impact through the strategic role of women within the family. Thus, this community service initiative contributes to strengthening Islamic financial literacy and promoting equitable wealth distribution in urban Muslim communities.
