Abstract

This research provides an overview of the integration of the lute in formal education.  The most important instrument for building culture and upholding the principles of local knowledge education and stimulating civilized behavior in society is education.  In addition, there will be no separation between education and curriculum. This makes sense considering that, within the parameters of the formal education system, the curriculum is a very important teaching instrument. The curriculum must be developed so that education can meet society's expectations, because it is one of the main indicators of educational success. Because the main goal of education is to meet society's demands, a curriculum like this is relevant to society. One thing that needs to be included is the use of traditional musical instruments known as Kecapi integrated into the curriculum in formal education. Looking at the facts, the aim of the harp integration approach and formal education is to produce human resources that can function optimally in society by combining the culture of lute art and science. A program called formal education aims to combine the benefits of teaching with the delivery of high education. Universities that provide an understanding of general knowledge and produce knowledge and experience of aesthetics and other things related to objects

Abstract

Kacaping is a traditional musical instrument that holds significant cultural relevance in South Sulawesi, particularly among Bugis tribe. Its boat-like shape links its origins to skilled sailors who created it long ago. Kacaping continues to play a vital role in community events such as weddings, aqiqah, and government gatherings. In the educational context, kacaping is incorporated into local content curricula, showcasing traditional performances. Recently, the evolution of kacaping into a diatonic version known as kitoka has emerged. However, many young individuals recognize kacaping merely as an art form, often unaware of its historical significance and cultural lineage. This research aims to elucidate the role of kacaping as a traditional music product reflecting the maritime heritage of the Bugis community. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, subsequently analyzed and verified. Participants in this study included cultural figures, instrument makers, performers, and educators. The findings confirm that kacaping is deeply rooted in the seafaring culture of the Bugis, with its historical and functional evolution evident in written documents and the presence of similar boat-like instruments in households. This research underscores the importance of fostering an appreciation for kacaping among the youth, highlighting its ancestral values beyond mere artistic expression, and encouraging academic and cultural literacy in schools.

Black attire honors humanity's bond with the universe and is a sign of cosmological views. Black clothes indicates the authority of traditional leaders and moral stature in daily life through ancestor traditions and adherence to customary law. Black clothing promotes community togetherness as a sign of equality. With a thorough comprehension of its significance, the Kajang tribal community promotes broad conservation efforts by raising awareness of the value of protecting the area's cultural history. To investigate the Kajang tribe's use of black traditional apparel, a qualitative ethnographic technique with a constructivist perspective was employed as the research method. The study's findings demonstrate that black apparel serves as more than just a piece of apparel it is a symbol of cultural identity, cosmological beliefs, ancestors' customs, adherence to customary law, and equality within the Kajang tribal society. Abstract

This research aims to understand the representation of local style in Kacaping performances on the festival stage as a critical reflection of the educational values of Mandar Culture. There have been several studies on kacaping, but generally, they only focus on music analysis, development, biography, and do not explain the representation of local style as a critical reflection of the educational values of the Mandar community in festival stage performances. This research aims to determine: a) the representation of local style on the festival stage; b) the relationship between the local style represented in the kacaping performance and the critical reflection of the educational values of the Mandar community. This research uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic study approach on kacaping performances as a research design that combines musical and non-musical elements. The subject of this research is the performance presented by Satuni at various festivals, particularly at the Oni-Oni Kacaping Festival. Data collection techniques were obtained through preliminary studies, audio and video analysis, and interviews. The research results show that: 1) the representation of local style in Kacaping performances interprets the relationship with a critical reflection of educational values, both musically and non-musically, involving speech (comedy) and singing styles that are identical to the Mandar culture, which contains critical reflections; 2) Kacaping not only serves as an entertainment filler but also reflects the uniqueness and beauty of Mandar culture. The conclusion shows that the representation of local style in Kacaping performances at international festivals, both musically and non-musically, not only reflects but also demonstrates the role of the Kacaping group as a group that critically reflects the educational values of Mandar culture.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of leg press training and squat training on the ability of degen weapon attacks in South Sulawesi athletes' fencing. The study employed a quasi-experimental research method, utilizing a two-group pre- and post-test design on a sample of 20 individuals. The matched ordinal pairing technique ranked the attack ability based on the pre-test results, resulting in the formation of two treatment groups. Each group consisted of 10 people using leg press exercises, and one group used squat exercises. We carried out the treatment for 16 meetings, training three times a week, performing 3–4 sets and 10–14 repetitions, and loading each sample according to their individual abilities. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was found that leg press training had a significant effect of -3,959 > α. 0.05 on the attack ability of degen weapons in South Sulawesi athletes' fencing. Squat training has a significant effect of -8,200 > α 0.05 on the ability of degen weapon attacks in South Sulawesi athletes' fencing. The effect of squat training is more effective when compared to leg press training in increasing the ability of degen weapon attacks in South Sulawesi athletes' fencing. Squat training is more effective because the movement characteristics of squat training are closer to the characteristics of attack movements in fencing. The results of this study recommend that coaches and athletes, to improve their dominant physical components to increase their ability to attack weapons in fencing, should choose leg press and squat exercises.

Abstract

This research was conducted to map the plucked string instruments in Sidrap. This research aims to map the existence and development of the kecapi, a traditional plucked string instrument, in Sidrap Regency, South Sulawesi. The kecapi is an integral part of the local musical culture, used in various traditional ceremonies and art performances. This research focuses on the aspects of geographical distribution, variations in form, crafting techniques, and the use of the kecapi in the Sidrap community. The research method involves interviews with craftsmen and players of the kecapi, as well as direct observations in several areas. The results of this study indicate that the kecapi in Sidrap has unique characteristics compared to other regions in South Sulawesi. This is seen in the variation of shapes and sounds that reflect the richness of local culture shaped by geographical location, both in artistic and non-artistic aspects. The mapping results indicate that Kacaping, in its musical condition, shows that differences in location do not result in artistically different forms of the instrument. Although there is no difference in the form of Kacaping, the playing patterns of Kacaping show a diversity of improvisation from each location. The aesthetic and artistic value of the Pakkacaping game from Kacaping that is played will show differences from the spirit of the players and, of course, the partners who play the Kacaping. This stems from improvisation and conventions that are not binding for the players. This is considered as a musical expression and emotion that stems from social and cultural conditions.
