Abstract

West Kalimantan is one of the Provinces in Kalimantan island known as Thousand Rivers province because it has many rivers, either small or big rivers, including Kapuas river, the longest river in Indonesia. According to Statistical Bureau (BPS), West Kalimantan has the poorest people among other provinces in Kalimantan with 405,510 people living in poverty and becomes the poorest province in Kalimantan with Rp337, 228 per capita per month. This paper uses panel data to analyze regression model of regencies and cities in West Kalimantan from 2011 until 2015. Authors find effects from geographical aspect to regional poverty, especially gross regional product depending on river, such as transportation and logistics, plantation, and forestry this model also sees the effects of unemployment on regional poverty. Authors use number of poor people, in this case we call Poverty as dependent variable, and Gross Regional Product in River, Gross Regional Product in Plantation, Gross Regional Product in Forestry, and Unemployment Rate in each regencies and cities as output. The result shows gross regional product in river has significant effects into poverty. It also shows negative relationship between gross regional products in river into poverty. Increases 1 million rupiahs of Gross Regional Product in River, Poverty will decrease 0.15%. However, increases 1 million rupiahs of Gross Regional Product in Plantation, Poverty will increase 0.02% , increases 1 million rupiahs of Gross Regional Product in Forestry, Poverty will increase 0.03% , increases 1 million rupiahs of Gross Regional Product in Mining and Quarrying, Poverty will increase 0.04%. Unemployment rate also has positive relationship with poverty, as long as decreases 1% of total unemployment, poverty will decrease about 0.28%.

Abstract

Losing a spouse is one of the most stressful events in a person's life. Meanwhile, stress is one of the triggers for health problems. Using IFLS 2014 as data and logistic regression as a method, we found that depressive symptoms, smoking habits, education level, and living in urban areas have a positive correlation with the probability of widows having poor sleep quality. This can increase the probability of having diabetes and cardiovascular diseases that can lead to death. The support of the closest family is expected to help the widow have better sleep quality.

Abstract

Abstract

the Convenience Sampling and Slovin formula, interviews 200 users of e-cigarettes in Bandung. This paper uses Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) with STATA 12. Total expenditure per month in electronic cigarettes, the price of electronic cigarette suction machine tools, motivation in using electronic cigarettes, the amount of electronic cigarettes liquid taste, knowledge about the risk of using electronic cigarettes, and the status dual user of conventional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes are has been used as variables in this research. The regression result shows that the price of electronic cigarettes, motivation to use electronic cigarettes, the amount of electronic cigarettes liquid taste are positively and significantly correlated with the total expenditure per month for electronic cigarettes in Bandung. In the other hand, knowledge about the risk of using electronic cigarettes not significantly reduces electronic cigarette expenditure. This study also finds that the status of dual users of electronic cigarettes and conventional cigarettes has a negative but not significant effect on electronic cigarette expenditure. To reduce the use of electronic cigarettes, the government needs to increase health campaigns regarding the dangers of electronic cigarettes.Even the government must bans the use of electronic cigarettes because knowledge about electronic cigarettes risk has insignificant effect to reduce consumption of electronic cigarettes.

Abstract

Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death in the world. The WHO reported that smoking kills 8 million people each year. Besides threatening global health, smoking by rural people tends to detain poverty alleviation efforts due to several factors, including cigarette expenditures and health expenditures. Indonesia has one of the most significant worldwide smoking prevalence and has become one of the countries that most suffer from smoking. The MoH Indonesia reported that health costs due to smoking reached Rp596.61 trillion in 2015. Previous studies found that smoking caused an increase in health expenditure due to smoking-related diseases in Indonesia. However, there is a lack of evidence found in rural areas. This research aims to answer whether smoking affects health expenditure in rural areas. Robust regression analysis is used in this model and processed by STATA 14 application. Using IFLS 5 data, the analysis shows that cigarettes consumed in rural areas have a positive and significant effect on outpatient costs. Increased outpatient costs in rural areas due to smoking will make the rural economy suffer and escalate poverty. The government should intensify the tobacco control policy in rural areas to avoid an increase of poverty rate in Indonesia.
