Abstract

This research was conducted to identify the influence of job insecurity and grit toward work engagement on 276 hospitality employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. It consisted of 81 male respondents and 195 female respondents. The sampling technique used was the purposive sampling technique, which has specific criteria. Those criteria are hospitality workers in hotels, the food and beverage industry, administration, marketing, travel, transportation, and housekeeping companies in Jakarta. This research used three measurement tools, namely, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (17 items; a = .856), the Job Insecurity Scale (9 items; a = .887), and the Grit Scale (12 items; a = .797). Multiple linear regression was used as a data analysis method. The findings indicated that during the COVID-19 pandemic, job insecurity and grit had an impact on the level of work engagement among hospitality employees. Job insecurity and grit both significantly affect how motivated people are at work in the hospitality industry. Employees’ job insecurity and grit have a positive relationship that can raise the value of work engagement. Therefore, decreasing job insecurity calls for high levels of grit and work engagement to keep employee positions within the organization. The strongest correlation was found between the dimensions of grit (perseverance of effort) and work engagement (dedication). Unlike this research, which was conducted on hospitality workers, the previous research was conducted on general workers. They expected the best performance, including maintaining a friendly smile and offering the best service in all circumstances while the pandemic was ongoing.

Abstract

Abstract: The Covid-19 pandemic has brought monumental challenges to the global health sector, exerting immense pressure on healthcare workers and highlighting the need for leadership that prioritizes resilience. Utilizing a scoping review method, this study investigated papers from the EBSCO, SAGE, PubMed, and Scopus databases, focusing on Leadership, Resilience, Healthcare, and Covid-19 as keywords. Sifting through 11 articles that met the established inclusion criteria, the study revealed four important themes: effective leadership styles, factors influencing leadership resilience, difficulties faced by health leaders during the pandemic, and strategies to strengthen leadership resilience. The findings demonstrate that inclusive and innovative leadership is crucial during crisis periods, given the mental and psychological challenges faced by healthcare workers. This study offers a new perspective in the psychological study of leadership during a crisis and emphasizes the importance of strategic revamping in leadership practices to ensure readiness for future outbreaks. The implications of this study are significant, providing a framework for health leaders to adopt a resilience-oriented approach, creating organizations that are more flexible and capable of withstanding pandemic pressures. It also implies the importance of developing policies and leadership training programs that are more focused on resilience in the future. Abstract

Abstract. New normal is a new adaptation carried out to deal with covid-19, where people are allowed to return to their activities in the field of work while still complying with health protocols. In the new normal situation, work engagement is a challenge for all companies. The purpose of this study is to determine whether job crafting has a relationship with work engagement and to determine whether employee well-being acts as a moderator between job crafting and employee work engagement in the new normal era. This study also examines whether gender issues are present in the variables. The subjects of this study were 533 employees in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) Indonesia. The instruments used in this study were the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), the Job Crafting Scale (JCS), and the Employee Well-Being Scale (EWBS). This research design was conducted in moderation using multiple sampling technique and moderated regression analysis PROCESS V4.0 Procedure for SPSS model no. 1 by Andrew F. Hayes. The results of this study indicate that job crafting is positively correlated with work engagement, and employee well-being plays a moderating role in the relationship between job crafting and work engagement. Moreover, the results of this study indicate that male and female workers have different level of engagement at work and employee well-being. This research can cover the gap in previous research so that it is expected to be a literature material for employees and companies regarding the importance of understanding the values of work engagement, job crafting, and employee well-being for the company's success. Keywords: work engagement; well-being; job crafting; employee; new normal; gender

Abstract

The fight against terrorism is is complex and multifaceted. Many factors can contribute to support for terrorism, with individual characteristics playing a significant role. Among these characteristics, the process of moral reasoning, pecifically, consequentialist moral processing—greatly influences an individual's decision-making, including their potential support for terrorism. This study explores the relationship between consequentialist moral processing, radicalism, and support for terrorism. 390 respondents were included consisting of 318 male and 72 female, aged 18-45 years, from various religious organizations (Islam, Catholic, Christian, Hindu and Buddhis). The sampling process conducted by Purposive sampling. Measuring instruments used were the Consequentialist Moral Processing questionnaire and a questionnaire in support of terrorism. This study uses a mediation analysis. The results of this study indicate that radicalism plays an effective role as mediator between consequentialist moral processing and support for terrorism. This means that consequentialist moral processing will contribute to supporting terrorism if through radicalism as a mediator. The results of the research become a paradox that radicalism and support for terrorism not only apply to Islamic organizations but also apply to all religious organizations. The results of this study enlighten us on the psychological literature, especially in the case of terrorism.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a psychological instrument of family resilience using data derived from Indonesian samples based on a five-dimensional resilience scale: physical resilience, psychological resilience, economic resilience, social resilience, and religiosity resilience. Each dimension was measured with five items (25 items in total) on a 4-point Likert scale.  A total of 841 subjects (n = 841) were gathered through purposive sampling and were required to complete the questionnaire. Data were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch analysis, aimed at generating each item’s validity based on the formulated constructs. Results indicated that all item t-values exceeded 1.96 (t > 1.96), and the model’s statistical indices satisfied the criteria for unidimensionality and goodness of fit. According to the Rasch analysis, all items demonstrated good fit and a high Cronbach’s alpha reliability index. A newly developed family resilience measure for Indonesian populations demonstrates strong construct validity across all dimensions and items, including a unique dimension that recognises the role of religion in family coping. While promising for clinical and research use, further validation and cross-cultural studies are needed to address limitations related to purposive sampling and cultural specificity. These studies should employ longitudinal and cross-cultural designs to enhance generalizability. This will ensure that the instrument provides a robust measure of family resilience for diverse applications. Meanwhile, the limitation of the study is the need to conduct a standardised norming of the instrument.

Abstract

The ability to regulate children's emotions is the basis for psychosocial development which is the key to future success, and they can quickly adapt to other people or situations that may not always be comfortable for them. Theory of mind (ToM) is a construct used to describe the ability to interpret other people's mental states, which then develops into the ability to empathize. This study examines how the theory of mind contributes to the development of emotion regulation in children aged 4, 5, and 6 years. This research used a quasi-experimental design to find the effect of ToM stimulation on children's emotional regulation. 109 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The scales used in this research are the PreBers scale to examine children's emotional regulation and the ToM scale. The research results showed that the influence of ToM development on children's emotional regulation was 52.4%. The results of this research highlight that the better the child acquires a Theory of Mind, the better the development of the child's emotional regulation. Furthermore, these findings are significant for early childhood education providers to develop programs to optimize ToM acquisition from childhood.
