Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis seseorang dalam suatu bidang studi tidak dapat terlepas dari pemahamannya terhadap materi bidang studi tersebut. Dengan demikian agar siswa dapat berpikir kritis dalam matematika, maka siswa harus memahami matematika dengan baik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan aktivitas dan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran matematika dengan model Cognitive Growth berbasis Scientific Approach. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan di SMP IT Ihsanul Fikri Kota Magelang pada kelas VIIIB mata pelajaran Matematika. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu lembar pengamatan aktivitas siswa, lembar tes kemampuan berpikir kritis, dan lembar observasi pelaksanaan pembelajaran. Presentase peningkatan berpikir kritis siswa pada siklus I = 57,58 %, siklus II = 67,24%, dan siklus III = 89,01%. Presentase untuk aspek aktivitas siswa pada siklus I=39,20 %, siklus II = 59,40%, dan siklus III = 93,93%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran dengan model Cognitive Growth berbasis Scientific Approach dapat meningkatkan aktivitas dan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas VIII pada materi pokok kubus dan balok di SMP IT Ihsanul Fikri Kota Magelang.

Abstract

The ability to think critically and mathematically is strongly needed so that the students are able to face the challenges of 4.0 industrial revolution. By thinking critically, they are expected to be more adaptive in finding solutions to each problem. This study aims to identify the students' mathematical critical thinking skills in solving differential calculus problem solving based on some indicators of mathematical critical thinking skills in learning using cognitive growth model. This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was caried out within four weeks in the odd semester of academic year 2018/2019. The subjects of this study were the first-year students of the Mathematics Education Program in one of higher education institutions in Magelang, Central Java who took the Differential Calculus course. Data collection techniques in this study were test, observation, and interviews. The test results were then analyzed quantitatively, and the indicators of critical thinking skills in each question were also described. Based on the results of the study, it can be shown that about 30% students who begin to think critically is initiated by achieving the indicator of analyzing the arguments. However, not all students who begin to think critically are also able to draw conclusions precisely through deductive and inductive reasoning. There are only five or 16.67% who have been able to draw conclusions correctly.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah geometri berbasis budaya pada mahasiswa pendidikan matematika ditinjau dari perbedaan gender dan gaya belajar David Kolb. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan subjek penelitian mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Tidar pada mata kuliah Geometri Ruang sebanyak delapan mahasiswa (gaya belajar diverging, assimilating, converging, dan accommodating) yang masing-masing gaya belajar terdiri dari laki-laki dan perempuan. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah angket tes gaya belajar David Kolb, soal tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah geometri berbasis budaya dan pedoman wawancara. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif kemudian dibandingkan hasil tes tertulis dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan gaya belajar diverging, subjek laki-laki berada pada kategori kurang dan subjek perempuan berada pada kategori cukup dalam pemecahan masalah. Kemampuan mahasiswa dengan gaya belajar assimilating, baik subjek laki-laki maupun perempuan berada pada kategori cukup dalam pemecahan masalah. Kemampuan mahasiswa dengan gaya belajar converging, baik subjek laki-laki maupun perempuan berada pada kategori cukup dalam pemecahan masalah. Kemampuan mahasiswa dengan gaya belajar accommodating, baik subjek laki-laki maupun perempuan berada pada kategori cukup dalam pemecahan masalah. Kata kunci: Budaya; gaya belajar; gender; geometri; pemecahan masalah. Abstract The purpose of this study is to describe the culturally-based geometry problem-solving ability of mathematics education students based on gender differences and David Kolb's learning style. This type of research is qualitatively descriptive with the study subjects of Mathematics Education Study Program Universitas Tidar on the Space Geometry of eight students (diverging, assimilating, converging, and accommodating learning styles) whose respective learning styles consist of male and female. The instrument in this study is David Kolb's study style test questionnaire, a culturally-based geometry problem-solving ability test, and interview guidelines. Data is qualitatively analyzed and then compared the results of test and interview. The results showed that students with diverging learning styles, male subjects were in the poor category, and female subjects were in fair categories in problem-solving. The ability of students with an assimilating learning style, both male and female subjects is in the category of fair in problem-solving. The ability of students with a converging learning style, both male and female subjects is in fair categories in problem-solving. The ability of students with accommodating learning styles, both male and female subjects is in the category of fair in problem-solving. Keywords: Culture; gender; geometry; learning style; problem solving.

Abstract

Background. This community service program is encouraged by the need for partners, which is the absence of specific activities related to the development of science and technology. Therefore, through the introduction of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in the learning, it is expected that this program can provide a lighter for the Sukosari Bandongan Elementary School teachers. STEM forms quality human resources to reason, think critically, logically, and systematically so that later they can be useful in facing global challenges and solving problems in everyday life. Purpose. This program aims to provide teachers with learning innovations through STEM education. Method. The activity consists of training in making simple products from the surrounding environment which can later be used as learning media. The training is carried out using lecture, discussion, practice, and mentoring methods. Results. The expected output is an increase in basic knowledge, especially in the field of science and technology which is manifested in simple STEM-based products. There are also some other products like training modules, posters, and publications of service results on social media. Conclusion. STEM education is a form of assistance to Sukosari elementary school teachers in improving learning innovation. The teachers need assistance to explore learning materials that can be integrated with STEM. They have very good motivation in practicing simple STEM-based tools. This can be seen from those who actively participate in the training sessions, practice properly, and ask some questions about some matters they do not yet clearly understand. The created simple products can be simple demonstration examples in a STEM-nuanced learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kevalidan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan dari ecomic berbasis Realistics Mathematics Education (RME) terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Penelitian ini termasuk jenis penelitian dan pengembangan dengan menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE yang terdiri dari 5 tahapan utama analyze, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IX-B SLB Negeri Jepara dengan sampel berjumlah 7 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive random sampling. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan yaitu dengan wawancara, angket, dan tes. Hasil penelitian ini adalah produk e-comic berbasis RME yang berada pada kategori sangat valid dengan persentase 91% dari validator materi dan 85% dari validator media. Produk e-comic berbasis RME juga berada pada kategori sangat praktis dengan persentase 89% berdasarkan respon siswa. Kemudian produk e-comic berbasis RME juga dinyatakan efektif dengan adanya perbedaan uji rata-rata pada hasil pre-test dan post-test, serta terdapat peningkatan nilai pre-test dan post-test dengan skor N-Gain 0,5485 yang termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Selanjutnya, produk perlu dikembangkan lebih lanjut dengan menambahkan materi, soal, jenis aplikasi, serta lebih difokuskan pada kemampuan komunikasi matematis.

Abstract

Based on the initial test, the students' numeracy literacy ability is still relatively low. A learning model and media are needed that can familiarize students to solve problems in everyday contexts. The study aims to analyze the completeness of the numeracy literacy ability of students who are given the comic-assisted PBL learning model and students who are given the direct learning model, as well as analyze the effectiveness of the comic-assisted Problem Based Learning model on the numeracy literacy ability of grade VIII students. The research method is quantitative research with a nonequivalent posttest control group design. The sample in this study is two classes, namely as a control class and an experimental class. The data collection technique uses tests, interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The data analysis techniques used are z-test analysis and independent sample t-test. The results of the posttest of numeracy literacy skills in the experimental class and the control class were obtained tvalue = 2,95 > ttabel = 1,68 which shows that H0 rejected and H1 accepted. Conclusion of  this study shows that the comic-assisted Problem Based Learning model is more effective on numeracy literacy skills compared to the direct learning model.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the ethnomathematics-based mathematics teaching materials for junior high school students. This analytical research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects are junior high school mathematics teachers and students in Magelang. The objects include teachers’ and students’ responses to teaching materials and the learning process. The data are collected using a questionnaire sheet, observations, and interviews. The data are analyzed using the Miles-Huberman Interactive Analysis, which consists of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results show that (1) teaching materials are available for the learning process; (2) teaching materials often used are textbooks and videos; (3) all teaching materials follow core (KI) and essential competencies (KD); (4) the students find it challenging to understand the materials contained in the available teaching materials; (5)the teaching materials need to be improved by providing concrete examples; (6) ethnomathematics-based learning models have not been implemented optimally, and; (7) the students agree to the development of ethnomathematics-based textbooks as the learning resources which makes them easier to understand the materials. The results of literature and field studies show that students need ethnomathematical-based teaching materials to improve their understanding. The cultural products that will be used in this research are the products of Magelang culture.

Abstract

Problem-solving is one of the most important skills for students to have. One of the efforts to develop students' problem-solving skills is to conduct learning using modules designed to improve problem-solving abilities. The purpose of this research is to develop a good quality trigonometry course module that meets the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective. The type of research conducted is research on the development of the Borg & Gall model. The Borg & Gall model consists of potential and problem phases, data collection, product design, design validation, usage trials, product revisions, product trials, design revisions, product revisions, and mass production. The subjects of this study were the first semester students of the Mathematics Education Study Program, Tidar University. Data were analyzed based on the level of validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the module. The results showed that the module was included in the valid category and the practical category. The aspect of effectiveness based on the results of the posttest with problem-solving questions is said to be effective. The result of the development in this research is the product of a trigonometry course module based on problem solving that is valid, practical, and effectively used for mathematics education students. The contribution of this research is that the module can be used in trigonometry lectures.

Abstract

Tahun 2022 secara serentak kota Magelang memberlakukan kurikulum merdeka. Kurikulum merdeka ini diharapkan mampu mengatasi permasalahan pendidikan selama ini, seperti cakupan materi yang cukup banyak, pengadministrasian yang ribet, terbentuknya softskill dan hardskill, pengintegrasian materi pembelajaran, serta permasalahan literasi. Literasi numerasi dan literasi digital menjadi literasi yang penting dalam pembelajaran matematika. Kecakapan literasi numerasi dan digital tentu tidak lepas dari penggunaan media pembelajaran di sekolah. Kondisi di lapangan, sekolah mitra ternyata memiliki permasalahan kurangnya literasi numerasi dan digital pada siswa. Di sisi lain, guru juga belum memiliki wawasan cukup dalam menggunakan media pembelajaran. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah mengadakan sosialisasi, pelatihan dan pendampingan media pembelajaran matematika berbasis kurikulum merdeka pada guru dan siswa SMP Negeri 9 Magelang dan SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Kota Magelang guna terwujudnya literasi numerasi dan digital pada siswa. Target pengabdian ini adalah mentransfer ipteks inovasi pembelajaran matematika SMP kepada guru matematika di SMP Negeri 9 Magelang dan SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Kota Magelang dalam bentuk sosialisasi dan pelatihan kepada guru, berupa: (1) pengenalan macam-macam media pembelajaran matematika berbasis kurikulum merdeka, (2) pelatihan pembuatan media pembelajaran matematika berbasis kurikulum merdeka, (3) mengenalkan macam-macam media pembelajaran matematika berbasis kurikulum merdeka kepada siswa, dan (4) pendampingan literasi numerasi dan literasi digital melalui pameran media. Kegiatan pengabdian dirancang dalam beberapa tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, evaluasi kegiatan, dan pelaporan. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, praktik. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat adalah peningkatan kemampuan literasi dan digital pada siswa SMP Negeri 9 Magelang dan SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Kota Magelang melalui pameran media pembelajaran Matematika berbasis kurikulum merdeka.

Abstract

Abstract: Mathematical literacy skills are very necessary so that students are able to face educational challenges in the cognitive aspect. One thing that has characteristics to answer the demands of 21st century learning is STEM. This study aims to develop a stem-based Descriptive Statistics course module using book creators to improve mathematics literacy skills with good quality that meets valid, practical, and effective. This research is development research using the Plomp model which consists of an initial investigation phase; design phase; realization/construction phase; test, evaluation, and revision phases; and implementation. The subject of this study is a student of the Mathematics Education Study Program at Universitas Tidar for the 2022/2023 academic year. The research instruments used in this research were validation sheets, questionnaires, and research instruments. This module is designed and developed based on the needs of students. After being developed this module was validated by two experts who are competent in their fields. The results of the module validity assessment based on experts are valid with an average of 74.5 with good categories. The practical results are based on student assessments which have a percentage of 56.52% with excellent criteria and 39.13% with good criteria. The statistical significance test of the module is based on test results with a classical average of 92.25 and the percentage of students whose scores are above KKM (≥ 75) is 86.93%. The data analysis results using the Wilcoxon test show that there is an influence of using the STEM learning model on mathematical literacy with a p-value lower than 0.05. The STEM learning model improves the mathematical literacy abilities in the medium category (N-Gain = 0.3889).Therefore, this lecture module is suitable to be used as one of the learning resources for the Descriptive Statistics and meets the quality aspects of validity, practicality, and effectiveness.        Keywords: module, descriptive statistics, book creator, mathematical literacy.DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i1.pp116-126
