Abstract

This paper aims to explore the stemma method in philological studies and analyze the application of this method in researching ancient texts, especially in the aspect of manuscript genealogy. This paper arises in response to the challenges philologists often face when trying to determine the most appropriate method for their research into manuscripts. The presence of various methodological options can often confuse researchers and make them feel disoriented in their research. Therefore, this paper aims to provide guidance to readers in determining the appropriate steps in philological research, especially in the context of manuscripts that are considered ancient or old. One of the methods that will be discussed in detail is the use of Stemma, which is a very useful tool in uncovering the autograph authenticity of ancient manuscripts. By utilizing the Stemma method in research, researchers can take concrete steps to identify and analyze genealogical relationships between various ancient texts. This can help them achieve a deeper understanding of the origins and development of the texts, as well as identify the most authentic or authentic versions. Thus, through a better understanding of the theory, methodology and practical applications of philology, it is hoped that researchers will not feel confused or lost in their research, especially when they are dealing with texts that have a long and complex history.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper aims to examine women and their pace in Minangkabau in the two great Minangkabau scholars’s opinion, Shekh Abdul Laṭīf Shakūr in the al Mu’ashārah and Haji Abdul Karīm Amrullāh in the Cermin Terus. Disclosure of thoughts on the two works uses hermineutic methods. Based on textual analysis of the both text, it was found that they differed in terms of technical matters such as the way to women’s dress and could have a career. Haji Abdul Karīm Amrullāh refused women to be westernized dressed and forbade women to work outside his home while Shekh Abdul Laṭīf Shakūr was more flexible in terms of Islamic dress. However, substantively such as female courtesy, women's rights and obligations in the family, both agreed to be in accordance with the Qur'an and sunnah. In essence, they want to change the mindset of Minangkabau women who are bound by adat and the matrilineal system.

Abstract

Warfare is often associated with masculinity, leading to the absence of women’s roles during times of war. This phenomenon also occurs in the Palestinian conflict, where narratives related to the resistance of Palestinian women are frequently overlooked. As a direct reflection of life, literary works capture the reality of Palestinian women’s resistance. Therefore, this research aims to expose the resistance of Palestinian women as reflected in an Arabic novel titled al-Ṭanṭūriyyah by Raḍwā ‘Āṣūr. This study is a library research with a descriptive analytical approach. It utilizes Hélène Cixous’s ideas regarding the binary opposition of patriarchy. The research data is derived from words, phrases, and sentences in the novel al-Ṭanṭūriyyah that narrate the resistance of Palestinian women. Data collection begins with intensive reading techniques to ensure a comprehensive understanding. Subsequently, the data is categorized according to the topics of discussion. The data analysis process involves contextual investigation to strengthen primary data through supporting literatures and scholarly articles. The research findings indicate that Palestinian women indeed live under the shadow of patriarchal culture. However, they also actively participate in resistance against Israeli occupation. Their resistance involves non-violent actions such as aiding war accommodations, writing, and engaging in protests. Additionally, they resist through military and political means
