Abstract

This paper proposes a Modified Balanced Random Forest (MBRF) algorithm as a classification technique to address imbalanced data. The MBRF process changes the process in a Balanced Random Forest by applying an under-sampling strategy based on clustering techniques for each data bootstrap decision tree in the Random Forest algorithm. To find the optimal performance of our proposed method compared with four clustering techniques, like: K-MEANS, Spectral Clustering, Agglomerative Clustering, and Ward Hierarchical Clustering. The experimental result show the Ward Hierarchical Clustering Technique achieved optimal performance, also the proposed MBRF method yielded better performance compared to the Balanced Random Forest (BRF) and Random Forest (RF) algorithms, with a sensitivity value or true positive rate (TPR) of 93.42%, a specificity or true negative rate (TNR) of 93.60%, and the best AUC accuracy value of 93.51%. Moreover, MBRF also reduced process running time.

Abstract

Stroke is a serious medical condition resulting from disturbances in blood flow to the brain, signaling a chronic health issue that requires an immediate response. Principal risk factors increasing the likelihood of stroke include the presence of pre-existing conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM), hypertension, and high cholesterol levels. Effective preventive measures are crucial to minimize stroke risk, and using predictive methods based on data analysis from the clinical examination dataset over the last three years (2019-2021), known as the general checkup (GCU) dataset, presents an innovative approach. This study aims to predict an individual's stroke risk for the following year. In this context, the study also addresses the preprocessing stage of the GCU dataset, which includes solutions for missing values by substituting them with the statistical mean, label encoding, feature correlation analysis using entropy values, and addressing data imbalance with the Adaptive Synthetic (ADASYN) technique. To evaluate their predictive performance, the research involves comparisons among various machine learning models. The outcome of the experiment shows that the Random Forest model is the best model, with 98.7% accuracy and 63.9% F1-Score. This research highlights the importance of preemptive measures against stroke by utilizing predictive techniques on clinical data, with the Random Forest model proving most effective in forecasting stroke probability.

Abstract

During the pandemic crisis that hit after 2020, Indonesia, like many other countries, faced tremendous challenges in areas such as health, economy, and mobility. An in-depth understanding of the dynamics and changes in these areas is essential to address the impacts of the pandemic. This research is an attempt to deeply analyze the impact of the pandemic and the most effective forecasting methods based on data and phenomena. Indonesia, with its growing economy and constantly adapting health system, faces conventional economic impacts, while its health system response tries to keep up with urgent needs driven by the spread of the virus. In the context of mobility, changes in how people move and interact significantly affect virus transmission. Modeling a pandemic event with all its complexities is not an easy task. Even more so, in finding the right method for prediction, ensemble techniques such as stacking and regression voting are emerging as promising approaches. However, deep learning and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques offer new innovations. The results of this study show that the ensemble vote provides the best performance in predicting confirmed positive cases and mortality based on factors of health, economic and population mobility in Indonesia. Through feature importance analysis using MDI and Tree SHAP, we conclude that factors such as active cases, the number of vaccinations, and economic indicators, such as close IDR and close IHSG, have a significant influence on the growth of confirmed positive cases. Meanwhile, recovery factors and vaccination number play an important role in the growth of the number of death cases. This study confirms that a multivariate approach that considers health, economy and mobility is the key to understanding and responding more effectively to the pandemic in Indonesia.
