Abstract

Marine transportation is essential for global and national trade, although it poses significant risks of occupational accidents due to the rigorous and intricate nature of marine labor. Mental weariness is acknowledged as a significant role in these accidents, as it diminishes concentration, impairs reaction times, and heightens the probability of human error. Notwithstanding its importance, research investigating the correlation between mental exhaustion and occupational accidents in Indonesia's marine sector is scarce. This study sought to assess the impact of mental exhaustion on the incidence of occupational accidents among maritime transportation personnel. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed, collecting 136 ship crew members by non-probability incidental sampling. Mental exhaustion was assessed using the validated Cumulative exhaustion Symptoms Index (CFSI) questionnaire, while data on workplace accidents were obtained by self-reported questionnaires. The Chi- Square test was employed for statistical analysis. The findings indicated that 66.9%of individuals exhibited elevated mental weariness, and a significant number of occupational accidents were documented. The Chi-Square analysis (p < 0.05) revealed a statistically significant correlation between mental exhaustion and occupational accidents. The findings demonstrate that mental fatigue is a pivotal factor influencing workplace safety in the maritime sector, underscoring the necessity for robust fatigue management strategies to mitigate occupational accidents and improve safety performance, while also deepening the comprehension of occupational health and safety in maritime transportation.

Abstract

The chronic nutritional problems that occur in toddlers with shorter height characteristics compared to children at their age have called stunting. If children who have stunting in their toddler, then the children have a high risk of getting degenerative diseases as an adult. The purpose of this community empowerment activity is to increase community knowledge about the dangers of stunting so that each family has its cadres. This method of community empowerment used counseling and cadre training and observation sheets, namely pre-test and post-test for questionnaires. Observation sheets that have collected used T-Test for statistic tests. The results of this activity show a pre-test value of 21.67 and Post-Test of 30.71 with a significant increase of 9.04%. There is an increase in community and cadre knowledge after being given counseling. Destination cadre (Village of Leave Stunting) has formed as an effort to monitor the development and growth of Infants. The staff can carry out a Follow-Up plan that is made and has been approved by the head of the village of Jembayan Dalam.

Abstract

Ship crews in the maritime transport sector are exposed to physical and psychosocial job demands that may lead to social fatigue and increase the risk of work accidents. This study aimed to analyse the association between social fatigue and work accidents among ship crews at a ferry port in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design and an accidental sampling technique was conducted involving 136 crew members (n = 136) who met the inclusion criteria and provided informed consent. Social fatigue was measured using a structured, validated, and reliable questionnaire and categorised as low or high based on the median score. Work accidents were identified from self-reported accident history while working on board and classified as ever or never experienced. Data were analysed using univariate procedures and bivariate tests (Chi-square and Spearman Rank correlation) with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 71.3% of respondents experienced high social fatigue and 67.6% had experienced at least one work accident. However, no statistically significant association was found between social fatigue and work accidents (p = 0.061). These findings indicate that social fatigue among ship crews is relatively high but not significantly associated with work accidents, and should be addressed through psychosocial support and improved working conditions on board.
