Abstract

Dalam mengatasi masalah dan kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh sebagian besar siswa dalam belajar mendengarkan, beberapa akademisi dan spesialis bahasa Inggris dalam pengajaran memutuskan untuk memperhatikan pendekatan, metode, dan teknik yang paling efektif untuk membantu siswa mereka dalam belajar mendengarkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan podcast dalam metode mendengarkan bahasa Inggris terhadap pemahaman mendengarkan siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian eksperimen dengan instrumen pengumpulan data Pre-Test dan Post-Test. Tes diambil dari TOEFL IBT. Tes terdiri dari enam topik dengan tiga puluh pertanyaan. Teknik sampel yang digunakan adalah teknik purposive sampling, dipilih 30 mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris sebagai sampel. Data dianalisis secara statistik dengan menggunakan uji-t. . Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan; rata-rata Pre-test siswa adalah 27,80 sedangkan rata-rata Post-Test siswa adalah 36,38. Setelah hasil tes dianalisis, diketahui bahwa nilai rata-rata post-test lebih besar dari nilai rata-rata pre-test dan menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung (4,535) lebih besar dari t-tabel (2,756), pada tingkat signifikansi 1%. Dengan demikian, hipotesis alternatif diterima dan hipotesis nol ditolak. Berdasarkan hasil ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengaruh penggunaan podcast dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris mengembangkan pemahaman mendengarkan siswa.

Abstract

Pengembangan bahasa inggris di sekolah maupun di luar sekolah sangat penting untuk anak anak. Kemampuan bahasa inggris anak anak berbeda beda karena yang kita ketahui setiap anak pun memiliki karakter yang berbeda beda. untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa inggris di perlukan dorongan motivasi dan media pembelajaran yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan skill bahasa inggris anak dengan menarik, aktif, dan mudah memahami. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif untuk mencapai hasil dan kesimpulan yang sesuai dengan yang di teliti. Data yang di peroleh berasal dari jurnal – jurnal yang terkait dari artikel ini atau yang membahas tentang meningkatkan skill bahasa inggris dengan media flash card. Hasil yang di dapat dari penelitian terkait peningkatkan skill bahasa inggris dengan media flash card ialah pembelajaran yang mencapai hasil yang maksimal, memudahkan anak anak memahami kosa kata bahasa inggris dengan menarik karena berupa gambar yang di desain semenarik mungkin. Kesimpulan nya adalah bahwasannya media flash card sangat efektif untuk meningkatkan skill bahasa inggris anak di sekolah maupun di luar sekolah dan peningkatan hasil belajar anak bisa di lihat dari lancarnya pengucapan kosa kata bahasa inggris saat penggunaan media flash card.

Abstract

Freedom to Learn Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) is a new curriculum issued by the ministry of education as one of the innovation in improving the quality of education in Indonesia. The rise of freedom to learn curriculum as one of the strategic decision in pandemic Covid-19 era. Challenges in implementing new curriculum come with various complaints from majority of teachers and it happen also for primary school teacher in Jakarta. The most element factors that make the implementation of new curriculum deals with narrow understanding of meaning and function in new curriculum. The research focus on analyzing the implementation of freedom to learn curriculum for primary school teacher in Jakarta. The research uses qualitative approach with case study to know the challenge and difficulties of primary school teacher in Jakarta in implementing freedom to learn curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka). Finding of the study indicating teachers feel difficult to use various kind of teaching tools and aid in making interactive teaching and learning. Based on teacher’s and student’s perspectives, freedom to learn curriculum need to have a clear and comprehensive guidance in order to make the teacher improve their teaching skills in order to bring new transformation for the students.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Cambridge Curriculum at Kharisma Bangsa Secondary School and its impact on teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Data were collected using a qualitative case study approach, which included interviews, observations, and document analysis. Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's models were used in the analysis, with emphasis on the systematic phases of data collection, condensation, analysis, and aggregation. The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the Cambridge Curriculum in meeting learning objectives and improving the quality of EFL education. It investigates a variety of topics, including curriculum implementation strategies, supporting and challenging factors encountered, and the curriculum's overall outcomes in the Indonesian educational context. The primary results indicate that the Cambridge Curriculum has significantly influenced the teaching methodologies and assessments.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate in detail the process and the result of improving English reading skills through Systemic Functional Linguistics-Reading to Learn (SFL-R2L). This study is an action research conducted in English Department Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta with total amount of participant 30 students within three action research cycles. The data was gathered from the process of observation in participation level and the result of an English reading skills test.  The findings showed that the learning process using Systemic Functional Linguistics-Reading to Learn (SFL-R2L) attracted the students to be more active in their learning process, it is showed by their participation level in the learning interaction. The result also presented that students’ English reading skill were a significantly improved. It can be concluded that the use of Systemic Functional Linguistics-Reading to Learn (SFL-R2L) succeeded in improving student English reading skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the level of understanding and readiness of the academic community of the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta in the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. The research method used is quantitative derivative, the object of research/respondents who are sampled are lecturers, students, and education personnel. Data retrieval technique by filling out questionnaires through SpadaDikti survey link. The results of the analysis of questionnaire data are interpreted in the form of percentages of each answer given by respondents. The results of this research can be a reference material for further research, in the implementation of the MBKM Program implemented at the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, so that it is expected to improve and improve the performance of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the use of MINDO (Mini Panggung Dongeng) as a media in teaching students' speaking abilities at MTs Al Ma'Mur. This research focuses on the difficulties that the students encountered and the advantages in the implementation of MINDO. This research is qualitative research, with a descriptive qualitative approach to describe in detail about the use of MINDO in students’ speaking skill. In order to gather the data, the researcher conducted observation and interviews in the 8th grade of MTs Al Ma’Mur Tangerang. After gathering the data, the researcher analyzed the data qualitatively. The results of the research showed that the difficulties faced by MTs Al Ma’Mur students are the lack of time allocation, the preparation of the puppets, noises from the students during the storytelling due to their excitement, and the unequal comprehension of the students after the story being told. The advantages include the students’ attention that was centered to the MINDO, the increase of students’ motivation and confidence in speaking, the interesting and fun learning process, and also the active learning process. Further research can be carried out by using CAR (classroom action research) in order to find the improvement on the implementation of MINDO in speaking skills regarding to the future directions.

Abstract

This research aimed: 1) to compare vocabulary mastery of experimental and controlled groups students after the treatment, 2) to see the difference gained by the two groups in terms of their vocabulary achievement, and 3) to measure how effective song lyrics feature was, available on Spotify, in the development of students’ vocabulary mastery. There were two classes of 8th graders of Jagakarsa junior high school, Jakarta participated as the sample in this study, classified into experimental and controlled groups.  A total number of 28 students occupied each of the class. The data were collected by using 30 multiple-choice questions of vocabulary pre- and post-tests. This research applied quantitative method. Thus, in the analysis data, statistical formula of t-test and effect size tests were used. The results of the computation revealed: 1) in the average, experimental group students outperformed controlled group ones in which these students’ vocabulary achievement escalated up to 22.04 points while the controlled group only increased 9.64 points; 2) The statistical analysis of t-test confirmed that t0 < t-table and the value of Sig. (2-tailed) > 0.05. Thus, these indicated that there was no difference in the average score achieved by experimental and controlled classes, hence, H0 was accepted. 3) In terms of its effectiveness, the used of songs’ lyrics on Spotify as teaching and learning media was not contributed fully towards students’ vocabulary mastery; this was showed by the value of 0.518 (moderate level) from the effect size test. This research work concluded that songs’ lyrics on Spotify was not really effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

AbstractThis research was aimed to measure the effectiveness of Listen English Daily Practice (LEDP) application in the improvement of 8th graders’ listening comprehension skills. There were 34 students comprised in one class involved as the sample of this study. This research used quantitative method with experimental approach and one-group pretest post-test design. In collecting the data, 20 multiple-choice questions in the pre-test and post-test were used as the instruments after the students were instructed to listen to conversation videos taken from YouTube. Data analysis of paired sample test was used in analyzing the data. That data analysis showed that the average score gained by the students in the post-test (82.20) was higher than the one in the pre-test (49.70). Besides, the calculation by using paired-sample test revealed that the standard error mean made by the students in the pre-test was 1.606 while in the post-test was 1.371. These findings showed that the errors made by the students in the post-test was smaller than in the pretest. The correlations between LEDP application as variable X and students’ listening comprehension skills as variable Y computed through paired-sample correlations indicated significant value of 0.01 which was lower than 0.05 (Sig. 0.01<0.05); meaning that the two variables were correlated. Therefore, this research rejected H0 and accepted Ha. To conclude, LEDP was an effective application utilized in improving students’ listening comprehension skills.Keywords: LEDP application, listening comprehension, application as teaching mediaAbstrak  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur efektivitas dari aplikasi Listen English Daily Practice (LEDP) pada peningkatan keterampilan pemahaman menyimak siswa kelas 8. Terdapat 34 orang siswa dalam 1 kelas yang dilibatkan sebagai sampel. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan ekperimen dan disain one group pre-test post-test. Dalam mengumpulkan data, 20 pertanyaan pilihan berganda pada pre-test dan post-test digunakan sebagai instrument dengan terlebih dahulu meminta siswa untuk menyimak topik percakapan yang peneliti ambil dari YouTube. Analisa data statistic paired-sample test digunakan dalam menganalisa data. Hasil Analisa tersebut menunjukkan capaian nilai rerata siswa pada post-test (82,20) lebih tinggi daripada nilai rerata pre-test (49,70). Selain itu, perhitungan menggunakan paired-sample test menunjukkan bahwa standar rerata kesalahan pada pre-test asalah 1,606, sedangkan pada post-test adalah 1,371. Hal ini berarti kesalahan siswa pada post-test lebih rendah daripada pre-test. Korelasi antara LEDP sebagai variabel X dengan keterampilan pemahaman menyimak sebagai variabel Y yang dihitung melalui paired-sample correlations menunjukkan nilai signifikan 0,01 lebih rendah dari 0,05 (Sig. 0,01<0,05) yang berarti terdapat korelasi antara kedua variabel tersebut. Dengan demikian, hasil penelitian ini menolak H0 dan menerima Ha. Sebagai kesimpulan, LEDP merupakan aplikasi yang efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan pemahaman menyimak siswa. Abstract

The research aimed to find out the RARE (Review Answer Read Express) as an effective medium in teaching speaking. Based on the result of research on the population of students in class VIII Yayasan Al Muslim Tambun in the academic year 2019/2020 as the experimental class. The method in this research uses the random sampling technique which is used in class VIII. The mean of students’ post-test is higher than the pre-test. The average value of the post-test is 89.31and pre-test 62.04It also showed that the value of Tcal (2.55) is higher than Ttable (1.721) at the significance degree 5%. If the result of the t-test is higher than the t-table, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Based on the result of the t-test calculation above, since the positive hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, we can conclude that the RARE (Review Answer Read Express) technique is an effective medium in teaching reading.
