Abstract

This community service activity was carried out among the members of the Sakinah Tailors' social gathering in the Kampung Bali sub-district of Sungai Serut, Bengkulu City. The members of the Sakinah Tailors' social gathering have the potential to grow because the members or partners already have sewing skills or their own sewing businesses. This is a supporting factor in developing a cooperative. However, they are constrained by limited knowledge about the procedures for forming a cooperative, capital, and how to prepare cooperative financial reports. So far, the members of the Penjahit Sakinah sewing circle have been carrying out savings and loan activities, but the administrators still carry out savings and loan activities in a conventional manner, so they want to form a sharia savings and loan cooperative. Therefore, the Community Service Team from the Faculty of Economics and Business wants to conduct socialization and assistance activities for the formation of a sharia-based savings and loan cooperative. The method used is through direct socialization and assistance activities using the Excel application, followed by posting, adjusting journals, and reporting activities.

The research findings indicate that, overall, BPRS Muamalat Harkat Bengkulu was in the "healthy" category during the 2020–2023 period. However, in 2023, the bank's health score declined due to an increase in the Non-Performing Financing (NPF) ratio and a decline in operational efficiency, reflected in the BOPO ratio. Meanwhile, capital and liquidity continued to demonstrate strong and stable performance. Based on the CAMEL analysis, the bank remains categorized as overall healthy, although greater attention to operational efficiency and financing quality is needed to maintain

Abstract

Islamic social entrepreneurship has gained increasing attention as a value-based approach to poverty alleviation in Muslim-majority societies. However, limited empirical research has examined how Islamic social enterprises translate religious values into governance practices, empowerment mechanisms, and sustainable community development. This study investigates Islamic social entrepreneurship as a mechanism of community-based empowerment in Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. Using an interpretivist qualitative approach and a multi-site case study design, data were collected from six Islamic social enterprises through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and documentary analysis. A total of 34 participants were involved, comprising enterprise practitioners, community beneficiaries, religious leaders, and local government representatives. Thematic analysis identified four major findings. First, Islamic ethical values such as falah, maslahah, amanah, and ‘adl shaped enterprise governance when they were institutionalised in decision-making, accountability, and resource allocation. Second, empowerment emerged as a multidimensional process involving economic capability, social recognition, moral legitimacy, and community participation. Third, Islamic social enterprises faced persistent tensions between social mission, financial viability, and Shari’a-compliant operational models. Fourth, regulatory ambiguity, limited access to Islamic capital, and managerial capacity gaps constrained institutional sustainability and scalability. The study contributes to Islamic social entrepreneurship literature by demonstrating that religious values become transformative only when embedded in participatory governance, sustained mentoring, and supportive institutional ecosystems.

This study employed field research, also known as empirical research. Data were collected through direct interviews with BAZNAS employees in Bengkulu City and several zakat recipients. The results indicate that the distribution process has been running quite well and aligns with Islamic principles as well as applicable laws and regulations in Indonesia. The National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of Bengkulu City has distributed zakat funds to various groups categorized as mustahik (zakat recipients), including the poor, the needy, converts to Islam, and others. The utilization of zakat funds covers various areas, such as educational assistance, business support, social aid, and healthcare. Although zakat distribution has been successful,  low public awareness remains a challenge, leading to uneven distribution. Therefore, monitoring and evaluation are essential to ensure zakat programs reach their intended beneficiaries.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the performance of village officials in managing Village Fund Allocations (ADD) from an Islamic economic perspective. The performance of village officials is an important factor in achieving ADD management goals, namely improving community welfare and sustainable village development. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, where data is obtained through interviews, observation and documentation. The research results show that the management of ADD by village officials has generally been carried out in accordance with the principles of accountability and transparency. However, there are several weaknesses, such as a lack of community participation and low understanding of village officials about the principles of Islamic economics, such as justice, efficiency and collective benefit. From an Islamic economic perspective, ADD management must be carried out by prioritizing the values of trust, justice and responsibility to realize community welfare. This research concludes that optimizing the performance of village officials in managing ADD requires increasing human resource capacity, active involvement of the community, and comprehensive application of Islamic economic principles. Recommendations are given to the village government and related parties to strengthen supervision and training regarding ADD management according to Islamic values.
