Abstract

Abstract

Accurate identification of rice maturity is an important factor in determining the optimal harvest period and maintaining grain quality. Conventional field observations are often influenced by subjective judg-ment and may produce inconsistent results across different observers. This study proposes an auto-mated approach for rice maturity segmentation by integrating Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery with the YOLOv8 deep-learning model. A dataset consisting of 682 aerial images was collected from paddy fields and categorized into three classes: unripe, ripe, and unhealthy rice. The images were an-notated using bounding boxes and divided into training, validation, and testing subsets. Model training was performed using YOLOv8n for 100 epochs with a batch size of 16. Performance evaluation em-ployed accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics derived from the confusion matrix. Experimental results showed that the proposed framework achieved an accuracy of up to 93%, demonstrating its capability to identify rice maturity conditions effectively. The findings suggest that UAV-based moni-toring combined with deep learning can support precision agriculture by providing a faster, more ob-jective, and scalable alternative to manual field assessment.

Abstract

Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have introduced innovative approaches to digital image production, enabling automated image generation from text-based instructions. The increasing adoption of AI image generation tools has created a need for objective methods to evaluate the quality of their outputs in comparison with images produced through conventional design techniques. This research investigates the visual quality differences between AI-generated images and images created using traditional graphic design software. An experimental quantitative method was applied by analyzing image pairs that shared identical resolutions and file formats. Image quality evaluation was performed using the Mean Squared Error (MSE) metric, which quantifies pixel-level discrepancies between two images. The experimental results demonstrate that MSE can effectively identify variations in image characteristics and similarity. Lower MSE values indicate a closer correspondence between compared images, whereas higher values reflect more substantial deviations in pixel composition. The findings highlight the applicability of MSE as a quantitative tool for image quality assessment and provide additional insight into the performance of AI-based image generation technologies within digital image processing applications.

Abstract

Tlogopranoto Village, Kebumen Regency, is a cayenne pepper producing area with the main challenge of sandy soil conditions on the south coast, which causes water to evaporate quickly and be absorbed. This condition requires more intensive irrigation, which has been relying on conventional electricity at a high cost. To overcome this challenge and support the sustainability of production, a community service programme through KOSABANGSA from Ma'arif Nahdlatul Ulama University of Kebumen and AKPRIND University of Indonesia introduced Appropriate Technology (TTG) in the form of a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) for sprinkle irrigation systems on a one-hectare chilli field. This solar power plant reduces dependence on fossil energy, saves operational costs, and supports environmentally friendly agricultural practices by relying on renewable energy. The programme also included digital marketing counselling to the farmer group Gapoktan Krajan in Tlogopranoto Village. This counselling provided farmers with skills in using social media and e-commerce to expand the market for their products. In addition, training on solar power plant maintenance ensures the continued use of an efficient solar-powered irrigation system. The results of this programme show an increased capacity of farmers in managing modern irrigation technology and digital marketing, which is expected to increase their productivity and income. Overall, the implementation of solar PV as an irrigation solution is a clear example of the application of sustainable technology in the agricultural sector, supporting climate change mitigation efforts and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets.
