Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of environmental temperature on the milk production of PFH dairy cows. The research site is located at an altitude of 187 meters above sea level, indicating relatively high levels of temperature and humidity. The average temperatures range between 23-30°C and the humidity levels range between 63-86%. Both elevated temperature and humidity can have an influence on milk production. The findings of this study indicate that the barn's Temperature-Humidity Index (THI) falls within the mild stress category. The milk production results for PFH dairy cows ranged from 3-6 liters per head per day in the morning, and 1.5-3 liters per head per day in the afternoon. However, it should be noted that this production level is still below the genetic standards. Other factors such as feed, management practices, and animal health also play a role in milk production. Regression analysis suggests a correlation between environmental temperature (THI) and milk production, although this correlation is not statistically significant. This lack of statistical significance may be attributed to the influence of various other factors on milk production, such as feed type and management practices. Therefore, in order to enhance the milk production of PFH dairy cows, it is necessary to develop a more comprehensive understanding of these contributing factors.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of marinating broiler meat using liquid smoke on the physical and microbiological quality of broiler meat at various concentrations. The research was carried out at the Gowa Polbangtan Product Processing Laboratory and the BBVet Maros Laboratory. The research was carried out using a Completely Randomized Anova Design followed by the Duncan test, with 4 treatments, namely: P0: (Control), P1: 1% liquid smoke, P2: 2% liquid smoke, P3: 3% liquid smoke and 4 repetitions with parameters pH, Total Bacteria and Beginning of Decay. Based on the test results, it shows that the concentration of liquid smoke has no significant effect on pH and the start of decay. However, it affects total bacteria. Marinating meat with liquid smoke up to a concentration of 2% showed the lowest total bacteria compared to other treatments.   Keywords: Liquid Smoke, Broiler Meat, Beginning of Decay, pH.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze differences in consumer preferences for buying chicken carcasses in Sumbersari District, Jember Regency, East Java. The research method uses a survey method with interviews based on a list of questions on the questionnaire. The sample was determined by the accidental sampling method with 49 samples. Sources of data used are primary and secondary data with descriptive analysis. The results of the analysis show that the largest consumer age group for chicken meat is 17-27 years old (68%), the consumer profession is dominated by students (61%), and the frequency of consumption of chicken meat is once a week (43%), the desired price of chicken is Rp18,000 - Rp20,000/kg (61%), the most preferred part of the chicken is the breast (29%), the method of ordering chicken meat is through online media (65%), the most popular side dish for chicken is poultry eggs (39%), and the most popular method of cooking chicken is by frying (76%). From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the majority of consumers are millennials who are technology literate, wanting practicality in obtaining chicken carcasses at more affordable prices.Keywords:  chicken carcass, consumer, preference

Abstract

Pemberdayaan masyarakat merupakan kegiatan peningkatan partisipasi masyarakat dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan hidup dan menyelesaikan permasalahan yang dialami masyarakat. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui program Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) yang merupakan aktivitas berbasis pengabdian masyarakat untuk meningkatkan empati mahasiswa terhadap kondisi masyarakat dan lingkungannya. KKN Tematik Universitas Mataram pada periode 20 Juni sampai dengan 3 Agustus tahun 2022. Kami mendapatkan lokasi di Desa Keruak Kecamatan Keruak Kabupaten Lombok Timur dengan metode pengabdian seperti sosialisasi, penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan pendampingan kelompok. Hasil menunjukkan adanya respon yang positif pemerintah Desa Keruak serta partisipasi aktif masyarakat yang tinggi diantaranya mengikuti program kerja utama kami yakni sosialisasi stunting, sosialisasi mengenai  Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS), penyuluhan pencegahan stunting terhadap remaja, pendampingan Posga (Posyandu Keluarga) dan pemberian makanan tambahan. Tidak hanya itu, warga masyarakat Desa Keruak juga sangat antusias dalam mengikuti program kerja tambahan yang telah kami susun. Adapun program kerja tambahan tersebut adalah pendataan penyakit orang tua lansia, lomba anak-anak, senam pagi, poster pencegahan stunting dan PHBS, jumat bersih, dan mengajar anak-anak di desa. Dengan antusiasme serta partisipasi masyarakat yang cukup tinggi ini tentu sangat membantu kami dalam menyelesaikan program kerja yang telah kami susun.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of lighting and plant type on growth of hydroponic fodder to increase forage productivity. This study used a randomized complete factorial design. The first factor was plant type consisted of maize (Zea mays), mung bean (Vigna radiata L) and rice (Oryza sativa). The second factor was lighting treatment consisted of 12 hours and 24 hours. Each treatment was replicated 6 times. The variables measured were plant growth parameters consisted of plant height, leaves number, width of leave and length of leave. Data was analyzed using Analysis of Variety (ANOVA) and the difference between means was analyzed using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The result showed that plant type increase in height, number of leaves, width and length of leave along with the ages plant. Maize showed the highest of plant height and numbers of leaves. Lighting 12 hours showed the best lighting to support plant height, then lighting 24 hours support to width of leaves. The conclusion of the study showed that the best growth results were corn plants with 12-hour lighting treatment.

Abstract

Keterbatasan hijauan di musim kemarau dan semakin sempitnya lahan untuk menanam hijauan pakan masih menjadi salah satu permasalahan di bidang peternakan. Penggunaan green fodder dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif solusi untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, karena dapat dipanen dalam waktu yang singkat dan tidak tergantung pada musim. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kandungan NDF, ADF, KcBK dan KcBO dari berbagai macam green fodder. Materi yang digunakan untuk green fodder adalah biji jagung (Zea mays), biji padi (Oryza sativa), dan biji kacang hijau (Vigna radiata L). Metode penelitian ini ada beberapa tahap yaitu penanaman, pemeliharaan tanaman, pemanenan, preparasi sampel dan pengujian sampel.  Variabel yang diamati adalah kandungan NDF, ADF, kecernaan invitro bahan kering (KcBK) dan kecernaan invitro bahan organik (KcBO). Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola searah dengan 5 ulangan. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis menggunakan Analysis of variance (ANOVA), apabila terdapat perbedaan signifikan (P<0,05) maka dianjutkan dengan uji lanjut menggunakan Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).  Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis green fodder berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap kandungan NDF (jagung 31,38%; padi 39,06%; kacang hijau 31,79%), ADF (jagung 15,38%; padi 25,96%; kacang hijau 31,92%), KcBK (jagung 78,56%; padi 63,05%; kacang hijau 72,40%) dan KcBO (jagung 82,10%; padi 64,76%; kacang hijau 74,56%). Kandungan KcBK dan KcBO meningkat seiring dengan menurunnya kandungan NDF dan ADF green fodder, semakin rendah kandungan NDF dan ADF akan menyebabkan tingginya kecernaan bahan pakan. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah jenis tanaman yang terbaik digunakan sebagai green fodder adalah jagung. Jagung memiliki kandungan NDF dan ADF terendah serta nilai KcBK dan KcBO tertinggi dibandingkan dengan padi dan kacang hijau

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how giving commercial feed of various brands affects the physical quality of meat obtained from Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan (KUB) chickens on pH values, cooking losses and water holding capacity. The Completely Randomized Design (RAL) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) techniques were used in this study. The Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used to see if there were any notable changes. This research used 160 Day Old Chicks (DOC) with 4 commercial feed treatments with different brands, namely P1 (WK Feed). P2 (CPH Feed), P3 (PAT Feed) and P4 (CFD Feed) with level of protein contains each brand. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of adding tannins to silage feed on the performance of male dairy goats. The benefits of this research are that it is useful for application to other ruminant livestock for obtaining preserved feed but with nutritional qualities that can still be maintained. The research consisted of 2 treatments. Each treatment consisted of 4 male Etawa crossbred goats (ECG) as well as replications. Treatment T0 was used for the group of goats fed complete silage without the addition of tannins, while T1 was used for the group of goats fed complete silage with the addition of tannins. The parameters observed for production performance were consumption (DM, CP, TDN), daily weight gain (DWG), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The parameters observed for rumen metabolism were rumen fluid pH, partial VFA, and ammonia (NH3). The data obtained were explained nonparametrically using the Mann?Whitney test by IBM SPSS Statistics 24. The results showed that complete silage feed supplemented with tannin (9 g/kg fresh feed) contained more crude protein than that without tannin. The effect on the production performance of male Etawa crossbred goats (ECG) was better for DWG, namely, 87.0 g/head/day, than for those without additional tannins, namely, only 53.3 g/head/day. Providing tannin to complete silage feed also improved the C2:C3 ratio in the rumen metabolic system, as indicated by an increase in the efficiency of energy use, which is beneficial for the growth phase of livestock.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the characteristics and production of fodder at different harvest times by establishing a hydroponic system to ensure a continuous supply of feed for dairy cows. The study comprises two phases. Phase I examines the production and nutrient quality of hydroponic fodder as a substitute for forage. This phase was conducted experimentally via a 2x3 factorial completely randomized design (CRD) design. Factor I = Plant type (maize and rice). Factor II = harvest time (7 days, 10 days, and 13 days). Phase II involves assessing the palatability of maize and rice plants as hydroponic fodder for dairy cattle. The data were analysed via a 2x2 factorial RAL design. Factor I = Plant type (maize and rice). Factor II = harvest time (10 days and 13 days). Maize and rice fodders harvested at various ages present the following characteristics: 1) As the harvest age increases (7, 10, and 13 days), the protein content of both maize and rice fodder increases, although overall production tends to decline after 10 days. The highest (fresh and DM) production occurs with maize fodder harvested at 10 days. 2) The elevated ADF and NDF contents in rice fodder up to 13 days result in lower dry matter digestibility (DMD) and organic matter digestibility (OMD) compared with those of maize fodder because of the presence of husks, which are the primary source of crude fibre. 3) Maize fodder is preferred by dairy cows owing to the number and size of its leaves and its vibrant green appearance.

Abstract

Produktivitas ternak ruminansia di Desa Glundengan seringkali terkendala oleh fluktuasi ketersediaan hijauan pakan, terutama saat memasuki musim kemarau panjang. Kondisi ini memaksa peternak bergantung pada pakan komersial yang mahal atau rumput lapangan dengan kualitas nutrisi rendah, sehingga menyebabkan tingginya biaya produksi dan penurunan performa ternak. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan memberdayakan kelompok ternak melalui penerapan teknologi silase berbasis Low External Input Sustainable Agriculture (LEISA). Metode pelaksanaan menerapkan pendekatan Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) yang melibatkan partisipasi aktif mitra dalam tahapan sosialisasi, penyuluhan, serta pelatihan teknis pembuatan silase menggunakan limbah pertanian lokal berupa tebon jagung dan jerami. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan mitra yang signifikan sebesar 80% mengenai teknologi fermentasi pakan. Produk silase yang dihasilkan memenuhi standar kualitas fisik yang baik, ditandai dengan warna hijau kekuningan, aroma asam segar, tekstur padat, tidak berjamur, serta memiliki pH ideal 3,8–4,2. Implementasi teknologi ini terbukti efektif menjamin ketersediaan cadangan pakan sepanjang tahun dan mampu menekan biaya operasional pakan melalui pemanfaatan sumber daya lokal secara mandiri dan berkelanjutan.
