Abstract

The study aimed to design and assess the heat flow capability of a tray dryer to support the process of supplying seedless watermelon seeds. Researchers collaborated with farmers in Seputih Mayang Village, Jember, who partnered with seeds producer of PT East West Seed Indonesia. Drying with a tray dryer that is composed of a frame, plywood walls, heating source, air exhaust cavity, shelves, thermostat, blower, and digital temperature measuring device; heat circulation moves in a zigzag manner. Determination of heat in drying by measuring temperature changes on each shelf. Shelf 1 (bottom) received the most significant heat than the upper shelves. To reduce the moisture content by 12%, the drying machine consumes 2.272 kWh of energy or equivalent to 8179.5 kJ, while the heat released during drying is 1603.800 kJ. Thus, the efficiency of the drying machine is 19.59%.

Abstract

A significant global issue faced by urban areas worldwide is the extensive conversion of agricultural land. In Indonesia, data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2021 indicates that the conversion of national rice fields ranges from 60,000 to 80,000 hectares annually. This trend poses a serious threat to the availability of rice and other food sources. Therefore, urban agriculture represents a practical solution for ensuring food availability in a sustainable and independent manner. One applicable technology is the Vertical Hydroponic Farming System. The objectives of this initiative are: (a) to equip teachers with technical skills so they can serve as trainers for their students, and (b) to provide technical support to SMPN 7 Jember, an environmentally friendly school, in its pursuit of achieving Adiwiyata School status at the East Java provincial level by 2024. The methods employed include: (a) delivering theoretical foundations of hydroponic farming systems through traditional lectures, (b) hands-on practice involving the construction of hydroponic installations, seeding and transplanting techniques, maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, and (c) implementing hydroponic installations and cultivation at SMPN 7 by actively engaging both teachers and students. In conclusion: (a) there was a 110% increase in teachers' knowledge and skills related to hydroponic farming, with evaluation results of the technical guidance averaging 4.9 (very good), and (b) the implementation of hydroponic installations and cultivation at SMPN 7 Jember progressed smoothly, supporting the school in its goal of achieving Adiwiyata School status at the provincial level.

Abstract

Marungga leaves have the potential to be a source of antioxidants, minerals, and carbohydrates. These leaves can be processed into flour for further processing into various products. Marungga leaves must be dried before they can be processed into flour. They are heat-sensitive, so some of their nutritional content will be degraded if dried at high temperatures. A dehumidification system dryer was designed and built to produce low temperature and humidity to overcome the problem of high-temperature drying. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of the dehumidification dryer and to assess the quality of dried Marungga flour. Drying was carried out under normal working conditions for 8 hours, with air temperature and humidity monitored at 20-minute intervals. The dried Marungga leaves were milled into flour and analyzed for physicochemical properties. The test results yielded the following data: air flow rate 0.109 kg/s, drying temperature 33.5°C, relative humidity 54.7%, drying rate 0.732 kg H2O/hour, specific humidity drop 0.01703 kg H2O/kgda, Carnot COP 6.8, actual COP 4.2, efficiency 61.8 %, SMER 0.055 kg/kWh. The Marungga flour produced had a moisture content 6.4%, protein 36.86%, antioxidants 58.765%, vitamin C 50.338%, and green color (a = -12.75) meets SNI 9228: 2023

Abstract

Yayasan Az-Zahra merupakan salah satu pondok pesantren di Kabupaten Bondowoso yang memiliki santriwan/santriwati dari berbagai kalangan umur terdiri dari golongan peserta didik SD, SMP dan MAN/SMA. Waktu luang yang belum dimanfaatkan dengan baik oleh santriwan/santriwati merupakan permasalahan yang dihadapi pengurus Yayasan Az-zahra. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam membuat minuman fungsional teh celup daun kersen pada ustadz dan ustadzah (pengurus Yayasan Az-Zahra). PKM pelatihan pembuatan minuman fungsional teh celup daun kersen pada anggota pengurus anak yatim dan dhuafa di Yayasan Az-Zahra, Kabupaten Bondowoso telah dilaksanakan pada bulan September 2022 oleh tim penulis. Tahapan pelatihan terdiri dari tiga tahapan yaitu 1) melakukan survey awal untuk menentukan analisis situasi dan masalah yang muncul; 2) melakukan pelatihan pembuatan minuman fungsional teh celup daun kersen dan pelatihan strategi pemasaran yang baik; 3) pendampingan berkelanjutan guna menumbuhkan potensi wirausaha di alun-alun Kabupaten Bondowos. Target luaran yang diharapkan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah terciptanya wirausaha baru dalam bidang pangan fungsional berupa minuman dalam kemasan teh daun kersen siap saji sehingga dapat meningkatkan pendapatan Yayasan Az-Zahra. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan para pengurus Yayasan Az-Zahra dalam mengolah teh daun kersen menjadi minuman fungsional dalam kemasan siap saji, meningkatnya pemberdayaan santriwan/santriwati dalam memanfaatkan waktu luang dan menumbuhkan potensi wirausaha baru di alun-alun Kabupaten Bondowoso. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah dengan adanya transfer pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam membuat minuman fungsional teh daun kersen maka akan terciptanya calon wirausaha baru

Abstract

Seeds drying technology is essential for ensuring the quality of agricultural products, particularly seeds. Although technological developments have resulted in more effective drying methods, challenges such as high energy consumption persist among small-scale farmers with limited resources. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the performance of Multi Seeds Smart Dryer with Low Cost and Low Energy Consumption (MSSD-LCEC), a machine designed to solve the inadequacies of traditional seeds drying methods. The machine used low-energy components and environmentally friendly concepts to achieve sustainable seeds drying while remaining affordable for small-scale farmers. Using corn, peanuts, and soybeans as test materials, the performance of MSSD-LCEC was analyzed through the use of factors such as drying rate, energy consumption, temperature, humidity, and moisture content (MC). The results showed that the machine effectively dried seeds in acceptable MC levels, meeting quality standards for seeds certification. This research also discussed the economic benefits of MSSD-LCEC, highlighting the stable performance and efficient energy use. By optimizing the machine's operation and minimizing energy costs, small-scale farmers could enhance their profitability while contributing to environmental sustainability. In conclusion, further refinement of the control system had the potential to enhance both economic benefits and environmental sustainability in seeds processing applications.

Abstract

Digital marketing saat ini menjadi salah satu strategi yang dapat digunakan dalam menjalankan sebuah bisnis atau usaha. Trend penjualan online dapat meningkatkan penjualan produk suatu usaha dengan jangkauan pemasaran yang lebih luas. Salah satu usaha UD Kharisma Tunggal yang berfokus pada penjualan produk pakan ternak juga membutuhkan teknologi ini untuk melakukan otimalisasi branding dan pemasaran terutama ketika UD Kharisma Tunggal mengeluarkan produk pakan ternak dengan teknologi pakan yang baru, tentu saja masyarakat membutuhkan informasi terkait produk tersebut. Tujuan pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengimplementasikan website E-Commerce pada UD Kharisma Tunggal. Metode pelaksanaan terdiri dari: identifikasi permasalahan, pengembangan aplikasi, pengujian aplikasi, pelatihan, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Hasil berupa website E-Commerce sebagai optimalisasi branding dan pemasaran biskuit tanin dapat digunakan oleh UD Kharisma Tunggal dalam menjalankan usaha pakan ternak sehingga jangkauan target pasar dapat lebih luas yang terdiri dari fitur: halaman beranda, tentang kami, produk, artikel, dan FAQ. Pelanggan akan terhubung ke whatsapp dan shopee untuk melakukan pembelian pakan ternak melalui halaman produk. Wesbite ini telah dilakukan pengujian fungsionalitas dengan hasil 100% dapat digunakan dengan baik.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of lighting and plant type on growth of hydroponic fodder to increase forage productivity. This study used a randomized complete factorial design. The first factor was plant type consisted of maize (Zea mays), mung bean (Vigna radiata L) and rice (Oryza sativa). The second factor was lighting treatment consisted of 12 hours and 24 hours. Each treatment was replicated 6 times. The variables measured were plant growth parameters consisted of plant height, leaves number, width of leave and length of leave. Data was analyzed using Analysis of Variety (ANOVA) and the difference between means was analyzed using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The result showed that plant type increase in height, number of leaves, width and length of leave along with the ages plant. Maize showed the highest of plant height and numbers of leaves. Lighting 12 hours showed the best lighting to support plant height, then lighting 24 hours support to width of leaves. The conclusion of the study showed that the best growth results were corn plants with 12-hour lighting treatment.

Abstract

The drying stage critically determines the quality of Modified Cassava Flour (MOCAF), directly affecting its functional properties. Insufficient moisture removal leads to detrimental effects including structural degradation and microbial proliferation, while over-drying promotes oxidation. Existing drying methods lack precision and reproducibility, underscoring the need for a MOCAF-specific dryer system. The central challenge is to develop a drying method that is both rapid and efficient while simultaneously preserving product quality. This study aimed to design an optimized drying model for micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), leveraging a TRIZ-driven innovation process to enhance MOCAF quality and process efficiency. Applying TRIZ facilitated the systematic identification and resolution of conflicting design parameters (e.g., rapid drying vs. product integrity). A hybrid technology model was then developed—combining infrared heating, forced-air circulation, and LPG combustion. Performance was evaluated in a pilot unit capable of drying 50 kg of wet MOCAF per six-hour batch, under controlled conditions: 76 °C drying temperature, 2.1 m³/min airflow, and 413 g/h LPG consumption. The optimized dryer achieved a water removal rate of 315 g H₂O/hour. Comparative benchmarking against conventional sun and cabinet dryers showed the hybrid system significantly reduced drying time while maintaining superior structural and functional properties. The TRIZ-based, hybrid MOCAF dryer offers a scalable, cost-effective solution tailored to MSMEs. By closing the innovation loop—linking TRIZ principles directly to enhanced performance metrics—this study delivers practical, field-ready technology. Key contributions include the first documented integration of infrared, forced-air, and LPG heating in MOCAF drying, optimized process parameters, and clear industrial applicability.

Abstract

Keterbatasan hijauan di musim kemarau dan semakin sempitnya lahan untuk menanam hijauan pakan masih menjadi salah satu permasalahan di bidang peternakan. Penggunaan green fodder dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif solusi untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, karena dapat dipanen dalam waktu yang singkat dan tidak tergantung pada musim. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kandungan NDF, ADF, KcBK dan KcBO dari berbagai macam green fodder. Materi yang digunakan untuk green fodder adalah biji jagung (Zea mays), biji padi (Oryza sativa), dan biji kacang hijau (Vigna radiata L). Metode penelitian ini ada beberapa tahap yaitu penanaman, pemeliharaan tanaman, pemanenan, preparasi sampel dan pengujian sampel.  Variabel yang diamati adalah kandungan NDF, ADF, kecernaan invitro bahan kering (KcBK) dan kecernaan invitro bahan organik (KcBO). Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola searah dengan 5 ulangan. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis menggunakan Analysis of variance (ANOVA), apabila terdapat perbedaan signifikan (P<0,05) maka dianjutkan dengan uji lanjut menggunakan Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT).  Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis green fodder berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap kandungan NDF (jagung 31,38%; padi 39,06%; kacang hijau 31,79%), ADF (jagung 15,38%; padi 25,96%; kacang hijau 31,92%), KcBK (jagung 78,56%; padi 63,05%; kacang hijau 72,40%) dan KcBO (jagung 82,10%; padi 64,76%; kacang hijau 74,56%). Kandungan KcBK dan KcBO meningkat seiring dengan menurunnya kandungan NDF dan ADF green fodder, semakin rendah kandungan NDF dan ADF akan menyebabkan tingginya kecernaan bahan pakan. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah jenis tanaman yang terbaik digunakan sebagai green fodder adalah jagung. Jagung memiliki kandungan NDF dan ADF terendah serta nilai KcBK dan KcBO tertinggi dibandingkan dengan padi dan kacang hijau

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of adding tannins to silage feed on the performance of male dairy goats. The benefits of this research are that it is useful for application to other ruminant livestock for obtaining preserved feed but with nutritional qualities that can still be maintained. The research consisted of 2 treatments. Each treatment consisted of 4 male Etawa crossbred goats (ECG) as well as replications. Treatment T0 was used for the group of goats fed complete silage without the addition of tannins, while T1 was used for the group of goats fed complete silage with the addition of tannins. The parameters observed for production performance were consumption (DM, CP, TDN), daily weight gain (DWG), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The parameters observed for rumen metabolism were rumen fluid pH, partial VFA, and ammonia (NH3). The data obtained were explained nonparametrically using the Mann?Whitney test by IBM SPSS Statistics 24. The results showed that complete silage feed supplemented with tannin (9 g/kg fresh feed) contained more crude protein than that without tannin. The effect on the production performance of male Etawa crossbred goats (ECG) was better for DWG, namely, 87.0 g/head/day, than for those without additional tannins, namely, only 53.3 g/head/day. Providing tannin to complete silage feed also improved the C2:C3 ratio in the rumen metabolic system, as indicated by an increase in the efficiency of energy use, which is beneficial for the growth phase of livestock.
