Abstract

Ballance Ton Quoi is a French song that the researchers plan to analyze. This song is performed by Angèle. This song has attracted the attention of researchers, since it is impossible to discuss women without mentioning the social structures in which they exist. The purpose of the present research is to illustrate how critical discourse can reveal a text's hidden meaning. Aside from that, this study aims to demonstrate how social construction influences the perception of good and terrible women. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis is used in the present research to analyze data. By examining and explaining the macro structure, super structure, and micro structure, the researchers seek to identify the implied meaning of this song. The present research adopts a descriptive qualitative method, with significant concepts highlighted and translated. According to the research's findings, the speaker believes that women should be able to value and respect who they are by not cheaply dressing or performing.

Abstract

Through an eye on the power dynamics in language, this study uses Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to analyze Emma's character in Jane Austen's Emma. The three-dimensional framework developed by Fairclough's text analysis, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice, is used in this research for analyzing how Emma's language both reflects and negotiates social hierarchy, gender roles, and power systems. Emma exhibits linguistic agency through her speech patterns, conversational dominance, and interactions with other characters, exposing both social limits and her self-determination. The results point out that Emma is influenced by the ideological frameworks of her day even though she occasionally uses discursive power. This research provides to a better understanding of how language acts as a tool for power and identity creation in literary discourse, particularly in regard to gender and class in Austen's works. By highlighting the importance of language in determining character interactions and social standing, this study advances literary discourse studies.

Abstract

The Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) developed by Norman Fairclough is used in the present research to analyze how power and social class relations are portrayed in the 2012 movie rendition of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. Using Fairclough's three-dimensional framework—textual analysis, discursive practice, and social practice—the study examines how Victorian England's socioeconomic hierarchies are reflected and reinforced in dialogue, and character relationships. In order to demonstrate how language and semiotics negotiate power dynamics and class hierarchies, significant events are analyzed, including Pip's transformation from a blacksmith's apprentice to a gentleman and his interactions with Estella and Miss Havisham. In order to highlight the film's applicability in the current discussions around inequality and social mobility, the study also looks at how it reframes Dickens' critique of social stratification for people today.
