Abstract

Humility has been a neglected virtue in the social and psychological sciences. Owing to the nature of the construct itself, humility poses some special challenges to researchers wishing to assess individual differences. Although there have been significant strides in research in humility, especially in intellectual humility, this research has yet to test measures of humility in non-Western, religious populations. The present study builds on previous research by testing Indonesian versions of humility scales. We measure humility construct based on eight domains identified by Davis and Hook (2014), namely openness/lack of superiority, other-oriented/unselfish, admit mistakes/teachable, interpersonal modesty, accurate view of self, global humility, spiritual humility, and regulate need for status. The data was analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) (N=390). Among 44 items theorized to measure Humility, 8 items do not fit the model and are deemed as not valid, while the other 36 items are valid. The recommendation for future research is to further develop the instrument of humility as some factors still have very few items.

Abstract

Work engagement is a positive psychology construct widely sought after and developed in various countries. Psychometric validation requires statistical analysis to measure and differentiate individuals across different cultures. This study aims to validate the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-17 (UWES-17) instrument on hospitality workers in state-owned companies in Indonesia. The study population comprised 3185 individuals, representing various positions and types of hospitality service jobs within the land transportation sector of a state-owned enterprise. A non-probability sampling approach, specifically convenience sampling, was employed, selecting participants based on their accessibility and willingness to participate. The participants, aged between 18 and 62, came from diverse fields and work areas. Analysis of item responses in the test was the Rasch Model with a study focus on item fit and person fit from the UWES-17 Scale. In addition, assumption tests of unidimensionality and local independence were performed to ensure the validity of the measurement model. The scale’s reliability was also assessed to evaluate the instrument’s consistency. The results showed that the items were overall fit, but the criteria for person fit were unmet. This is due to the tendency for uniformity and too many diverse positions and cultural tendencies of state-owned companies. The implication is that further item development and confirmation are needed on the constituent aspects, especially the absorption constituent items. Additionally, developing a more consistent shorter version or discovering other dimensions of work engagement that are specific to collectivist societies may be possible.

Abstract

The seurumbek, a mushaf manuscript by Tgk. Chik Dipasi, is highly revered and considered sacred by the community of Waido. The presence and recitation of seurumbek hold great significance in the keunduri blang tradition in Waido, setting it apart from other regions in Aceh. This research aims to explore the description of the implementation of seurumbek recitation and delve deeper into the symbolic meanings created within this tradition. The study employs a qualitative approach as part of field research, utilizing observation, interviews, and direct documentation techniques presented descriptively. The research is conducted in Waido, Pidie Regency, Aceh. The findings reveal that the seurumbek recitation occupies a central position in the keunduri blang tradition, evident from the special treatment it receives, both in storage and during the recitation process. Seurumbek recitation also creates complex symbols reflecting the relationship between humans and God, ancestors, others, and oneself. This practice serves as a mediator to draw closer to Allah, with symbolic actions such as shading, kissing, and showing respect for seurumbek reflecting reverence for Tgk. Chik Dipasi. Seurumbek recitation also symbolizes social relationships by strengthening Islamic brotherhood in the community. Additionally, it brings tranquility, patience, and sincerity as symbols of an individual's relationship with oneself.

Abstract

Education plays a very important role in advancing and developing the life of the nation. The government's commitment to this is manifested through the Single Tuition (UKT) system as one of the management ways to be able to present information that can support all activities in higher education. This research is intended to repeat further about this matter. Based on the above presentation, the author is interested in analyzing the unit cost of students at the university level, especially PTKIN based on moral philosophy perspective. Is the Single Tuition (UKT) fulfilling fairness principle in moral perspective. This study used a type of descriptive research with the population being a study program at of PTKI. The sample was taken with a total sampling technique involving 51 Study Programs. Data was taken with FGD. Rawls basic theory of Justice used in viewing fairness element on tuition cost. The results of the study show that there are difficulties in assessing the degree of need in each study program. The needs of study programs must be different based on the cluster of knowledge and competency requirements in each study program. As a result, it is difficult to determine the true size of UKT in fulfilling a demand on fairness. But with the contract principle, tuition cost has fairness. The implication is that a common perception is needed to meet the principles of clarity and fairness in determined tuition cost.

Abstract

The participation of women in the workforce creates challenges and problems. Those with various roles in their lives must be good at playing and balancing these successfully. This study focuses on the work-life balance factor by exploring the predictor factors including personality, family social support, and childcare responsibilities, as moderated by gender role attitude. A work/ nonwork interference and enhancement scale, mini-IPIP, gender role beliefs scale, and social support scale were developed for the data collection. A sample of 220 married female workers was identified using purposive sampling. The data analysis, which used multiple regression and a modgraph, shows a significant effect of personality, social support, and childcare responsibilities on the work-life balance moderated by gender role attitude. Four independent variables with significant influence are neuroticism, openness to experiencing family support, gender role attitude and there is a moderating effect on neuroticism and family support. The implication is the need to provide a comfortable work environment and arrangement of work patterns so that women's work-life balance can be achieved positively.

Abstract

The Seurembek tradition is a collective Qur’an recitation practice with deep spiritual and social meaning for the local Muslim community in Pidie Regency, Aceh. This practice not only functions as a form of worship but also as a space for social interaction that strengthens community ties and provides meaning to life for its practitioners. This study aims to examine the contribution of the Seurembek tradition to individual psychological well-being and community resilience through a positive psychology framework. A descriptive, qualitative approach was employed, with data collection conducted through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving Seurembek practitioners, religious leaders, and local community members. The research findings indicate that Seurembek strengthens several dimensions of psychological well-being, including providing meaning and purpose in life, increasing positive emotions, and fostering intense social connectedness. In addition, this practice plays an essential role in strengthening community resilience to various social and spiritual pressures by fostering solidarity, social cohesion, and collective coping mechanisms rooted in religious and cultural values. This finding confirms that preserving the Seurembek tradition has strategic value for improving mental health and social resilience, grounded in local wisdom. The implications of this research open opportunities to develop contextual and culturally oriented positive psychology interventions for Muslim communities in Indonesia.
