Abstract

Introduction & Aim: An unhealthy lifestyle and inactivity are the main causes of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which disrupts the body's ability to metabolize glucose into energy. This community service project aims to assess type 2 diabetes patients' blood glucose levels and level of knowledge regarding Progressive Muscle Relaxation and the Five Pillars of education. Method of Activity: A 5-Pillars teaching program and progressive muscle relaxation were given to 25 type 2 diabetes patients who had previously visited the Bulak Community Health Center. This six-week community service project involved multiple stages of action, including an initial survey, education, application, assistance, and assessment, and it was conducted at Jalan Bulak Setro RT 02 RW 04 Bulak Surabaya. Community conduct is assessed based on knowledge and blood sugar levels. To assess the efficacy of the service, data were examined statistically using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results: The community behavior that this service can alter is demonstrated by the 100% increase in knowledge (p = 0.000) and the normal blood glucose levels of 64% of respondents (p = 0.004). Disscusion: For individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, progressive muscle relaxation education and the 5-pillars of diabetes mellitus therapy yield the best outcomes in terms of preventing complications like diabetic neuropathy. An extensive strategy to raise sufferers' awareness is to offer information and support so that individuals with DMT2 can adopt a healthier lifestyle in the hopes that their blood glucose levels will return to normal.

Abstract

Introduction & Aim: Smoking can be life-threatening and can be fatal. This phenomenon is widespread, especially among teenagers. Most smokers start smoking in their teens. Knowledge about the dangers of smoking in adolescents is still limited, where adolescents only know that smoking is not good for health, but do not have extensive knowledge about the dangers of smoking to their own health and the environment. Health education based on Emo Demo (Emotional Demonstration) is expected to increase youth's knowledge about the dangers of smoking. Method of Activity: Community service is carried out for youth in the Surabaya City Region, using lecture, demonstration, discussion and question and answer methods. The initial stage of registration and distribution of leaflets, filling out the Pre-Test quiz. The implementation phase uses lecture methods, discussions, followed by demonstrations and simulations. The final stage is evaluation, participants are asked questions by the presenter regarding the topics that have been explained and post test quizzes. Activity results: The level of knowledge of adolescents before being given health education on the dangers of smoking was mostly 43.75% insufficient, 25.00% sufficient, and 31.25% good. After being given Emo Demo-based Health Education there was an increase in adolescent knowledge about the dangers of smoking, 50.00% had good knowledge, 43.75% had enough, and 6.25 had less. Discussion: Changes in attitude due to increased knowledge show that Health Education based on Emo Demo (Emotional Demonstration) about the dangers of smoking is effective in conveying health information.

Abstract

Introduction & Aim: Hypertension is a chronic disease and is considered a global health problem that can cause complications, such as cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, dementia, and death from cardiovascular disease. Patients need a support system in managing their disease. One way to control blood pressure and prevent hypertension complications is to improve self-management. Community involvement is integrated in the program to have a social support system in carrying out self-management. The aim of this community service is to improve self-management and blood pressure control in hypertension sufferers. Method of Activity: Implementation of the Pillar-Based Interactive 3D Diorama (Dio-3D IBP) was carried out on 20 hypertensive respondents who had previously undergone examinations at the Surabaya regional health center. The community service lasted for four weeks in RW 07, Kapasan Village, Simokerto District, Surabaya. The activity stages are initial survey, implementation, education, mentoring and evaluation. Self management was measured using the Hypertension Self Management Behavior Questionnaire and blood pressure control was measured using a sphygmomanometer. Community service results are assessed by analyzing data using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test statistical test. Results: This community service can change people's behavior regarding self-management and blood pressure control. The results of the Wilcoxcon test are self-management p=0.001 and improvement in blood pressure with systole and diastole values p=0.00. Discussion: Implementation of a Pillar-Based Interactive 3D Diorama (Dio-3D IBP) can improve self-management and blood pressure control in hypertension sufferers. Health care workers should participate in health education programs to meet community needs and improve compliance with their treatment regimens.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the deadliest diseases in the world that can attack anyone, both young and old. Hypertension sufferers have poorer sleep quality compared to those with normal blood pressure. This research is a quantitative research using a Quasi-Experimental Design. This research aimed to determine the effect of a combination of warm water foot baths and lavender essential oil aromatherapy on sleep quality in adults with hypertension. Wilcoxon test results (p = 0.004), which means that there is an effect of combination therapy with warm water foot baths and lavender essential oil aromatherapy on the sleep quality of adults with hypertension. The feet have many thermoreceptors and a high density of capillaries. Soaking your feet in warm water can help prepare the body for sleep naturally and quickly trigger peripheral vasodilation. There are two main ways to apply aromatherapy: topically and through inhalation. Lavender essential oil is said to activate the limbic system, especially the hippocampus and amygdala. Combining warm foot baths with aromatherapy would be a rational approach to the management of sleep disorders in adult patients with hypertension.

Abstract

Introduction. Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is defined as Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes mellitus occurs in 2 to 9 percent of all pregnancies and is associated with substantial rates of maternal and perinatal complications. Women with a history of GDM have a sevenfold lifetime risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared with those with euglycemic pregnancies.A systematic review was conducted to evaluate the evidence from published studies on the effect of non-pharmacological interventions on the health of glycemic control of pregnant women at high risk (gestational diabetes mellitus).Method. The databases used in this systematic review are Scopus, Science Direct, and PubMed. Relevant articles were searched from 27 May to 29 June 2022. The publication year was limited to 2018 – 2022. A total of 20 randomized controlled trials were included that focused on non-pharmacological interventions in GDM women. Results & Analysis. The selected articles show that physical exercise interventions consist of moderate-intensity aerobic and resistance exercise, educational interventions include telemedicine and mobile health (m-health), and dietary nutrition interventions.Discussions. Non-pharmacological interventions can have a good effect on the control of GDM in the treatment of GDM. In general, women with GDM can improve their condition and prevent the risk of complications in childbirth. The physical exercise intervention had a significant beneficial effect on controlling blood glucose levels in GDM women, while other interventions that also had a beneficial effect were education with telemedicine and mobile health media.

Abstract

Introduction: Individuals with diabetes mellitus must adhere to a series of examinations, which includes blood sugar monitoring. The effects of progressive muscle relaxation and lemon aromatherapy on blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes are compared in this study as non-pharmacological interventions for controlling or lowering blood sugar increase that persons with diabetes mellitus can conduct on their own at home. Method: The methodology of pre-experimental research is used. The study population consists of 36 volunteer diabetes patients who are divided into two groups using simple random sampling. The dependent variable is the blood sugar levels of patients with type 2 diabetes. The independent variables in this study are progressive muscle relaxation and lemon aromatherapy. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test & Mann-Whitney test is used to examine the data in order to determine the significance of the comparison between two sets of correlated data using ratio-shaped data. Results & Analysis: With a p-value of 0.016, progressive muscle relaxation is helpful in reducing blood sugar levels. Likewise, using lemons in aromatherapy decreases blood sugar levels (p-value = 0.028). However, the comparison results show that, with a p-value of 0.012, progressive muscular relaxation works better than lemon aromatherapy. Discussion: Both interventions involve relaxation techniques that block stress input and promote physiological calm in order to slow down heartbeats and boost the release of insulin hormones into the bloodstream, which is required for managing blood sugar. It is suggested that future research combine the two medicines to obtain more comprehensive findings.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with a rising global prevalence, significantly affecting patients' quality of life and the health system. Effective management of T2DM requires patients to actively regulate their diet, physical activity, and adherence to treatment. Health Locus of Control (HLC) measures the extent to which individuals believe their health is influenced by their actions (internal), others (powerful others), or chance. Augmented Reality (AR) technology presents an innovative method for therapeutic education, potentially enhancing patient engagement and learning effectiveness. Objectives: To analyze the effect of Augmented Reality-based therapeutic patient education on health locus of control in T2DM patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-tests and a control group was used. Non-probability purposive sampling selected 100 respondents, divided into an intervention group (50) and a control group (50). The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control questionnaire served as the research instrument. Univariate analysis described respondents' frequency distribution, mean, median, and standard deviation. Bivariate analysis utilized the Wilcoxon test. Results: Augmented Reality based Therapeutic Education significantly improved HLC scores in T2DM patients: Internal (p = 0.01), Powerful Others (p = 0.02), and Chance (p = 0.00). However, no significant difference was found between the intervention and control groups in terms of overall HLC improvement, indicating the need for further research to confirm these preliminary findings. Conclusion: Augmented Reality-based Therapeutic Education shows promise in enhancing patients' perception of control over their health. This innovative approach could significantly impact clinical practice and patient education.
