Abstract

In online learning, various problems that are often encountered are slow to understand the material, communication abilities, social abilities and weak internet networks. EfIT learning is carried out online which results in the emergence of many perceptions because online learning is very different from face-to-face learning. This study discusses students' perceptions of readiness for EfIT lessons in learning online during next normal. This qualitative interview study (Kvale, 2007) aimed at investigate Students’ Perceptions of Readiness Toward English for Islamic Teaching Course in Online Learning During next Normal. The data collected from-semi structure interview with four participants at one of the private university in the eastern of java, Indonesia. The result indicate that the readiness online learning in EfIT courses is quite good, especially in mastering technology.

Abstract

This research discusses the use of Islamic film dubbing as a teaching tool to improve students' English language skills, which include four skills, namely speaking, writing, reading, and listening by using video editing software as a tool to edit student videos for dubbing. This research uses classroom action research with eleventh-grade students. The subjects of this research were eleventh-grade students from one of the high schools in Jember. In this research, students in one class are divided into several groups, and later each group will make a voiceover video. In this research, researchers used interviews to obtain information from respondents after making dubbing videos, and tests to find out whether the application of dubbing videos improved students' abilities in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Apart from that, observation activities were also carried out to see how these techniques were applied during the teaching and learning process, and documentation was also carried out to document and record important events that occurred in the field.

Abstract

The Pancasila student profile as part of the independent curriculum is one of the government’s efforts to spread the values and practices of Pancasila in all learning domains, both in the teaching and learning process and in the textbooks used and recently approved by the government. The purpose of this study was to enhance public consciousness, particularly among education policymakers, teachers, and students, regarding the crucial role of textbooks in upholding Pancasila values and equipping students with the necessary wisdom to navigate the future in alignment with the values imparted through textbooks. This research specifically examines the values of Pancasila, namely 1) faith, devotion to God almighty, and noble morals, 2) independence, 3) Gotong Royong, 4) global diversity, 5) critical reasoning, and 6) creativity, in accordance with Minister of Education and Culture regulation Number 22 of 2020 concerning the Strategic plan of the Ministry of Education and Culture for 2020-2024. Efforts to maintain The Pancasila values contained in English for Nusantara textbook published by The Ministry of Education and Culture for Grade 7th Junior School students. The research employs the English for Nusantara Textbook for 7th grade Junior High School as the instrument. The critical discourse analysis approach is utilized to examine the ideological values conveyed in the textbook’s messages, both explicitly and implicitly, within their respective contexts.

Abstract

This research is limited to the students’ perspective toward the use of photovoice in the teaching and learning process. The objective of this study is to explore the perspective of students about the use of photovoice on the teaching and learning process in speaking class. The research use qualitative interview study with a descriptive design. The researchers collected the data by individual semi-structured interviews. The writter choose telephone inteview with current conditions (Covid 19). Data analysis used is thematic analysis by (Braun, Virginia & Clarke, 2006). Interview were transcribed verbatim to ensure data integrity by double-checking the transcripts with recorded interviews.The researh findings show 7 theme based on interview with students who describe their perspectives and experiences in learning photovoice. These themes are: 1) experiences, 2) social, 3) intellectual, 4) speaking, 5) emotion, 6) challanges and difficulties, and 7) future direction of photovoice

Abstract

This content analysis study aimed to identify speech act in Indonesian EFL Textbookentitled Think Globally Act Locallypublished by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MONEC) in 2018. The procedure of analyzing the data are, read and reread the textbook, identifying the forms of speech acts in EFL textbook, coding, the researcher classifying relevant data representing illocutionary, tabulating the frequency and percentage of each speech act, describing and interpreting the data in order to address the statement of problem.Drawing upon the Searle’s (1977) categories, I found 52 kinds of speech act categorized as Illocutionary act; representative, commissive, directive, expressive, and declarative. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that textbook representedvarious speech acts that could help learnersin their EFL learning.

Abstract

Based on informal interview with the English teacher and preliminary study test of SMP Madrasah Tsanawiyah Miftahul Ulum Suco Lor had problem in speaking and it was shown by the average score of the preliminary test is 37% student get score more than 65. This study aimed to determine the learning process and the learning outcome of student’s speaking ability during the English conversation. The type of research is classroom action research (CAR). The Procedure used is the model cycle. Based on the results of the study, the percentage of students in the first cycle of activity individually obtained 58,5% and in the second cycle students’ activity individually obtained 95%. While the daily test results of students in the first cycle obtained average value 78,26% and 95,65% in the second cycle. It is proved that the learning process is a fan of student learning outcomes can be improved with the use of speech recognition application.

Abstract

The popularity of Task-Based Learning (henceforth, TBL) approach has risen the effectiveness in enhancing learners’ competence, since it was proposed in 1980s. However, there has been limited research about investigating participants’ writing skill with TBL-mediated in EFL domain. This study investigated the impact of TBL in writing skill of undergraduate students at Indonesian University. This present study employs a qualitative interview study to declare the result of impact of utilizing TBLT as approach which assist to boost the undergraduate students’ writing skill. Fifteen participants from a private university in Jember, Indonesian are voluntarily involved and subsequently interviewed in this research. Datal were collectedl through lsemi-structured interviewsl to get in-depth information with respect to their experiences related to the impact of utilizing TBLT in their writing skill. Based on the data finding Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has a positive impact on undergraduate students' writing skills in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) domain. TBLT provides students with authentic and meaningful writing tasks that help them develop their writing skills in a practical context. TBLT also promotes students' engagement, motivation, and collaboration, which are essential factors in improving writing proficiency.

Abstract

This study aimed at analyzing the kinds of politeness strategies, types of illocutionary act, and the factors influenced the teachers and students’ classroom interaction. The data of this qualitative study were taken from observed interactions in the teaching and learning process in the classroom. The result of the study show (1) politeness was conveyed through two strategies, namely, positive, and negative politeness; in English Class and Ngoko (Low Speech) and Krama (High Speech) in Pondok Class. (2) The type of illocutionary act used by teacher and student in the politeness have found two type illocutionary act, they are Representative and Directive (3) the researcher has found factor payoff in English class and factor age, factor status in Pondok class. The politeness used at classroom interaction at English Class was proven low because English teacher still do mistake in using politeness and she does not use politeness frequently; therefore, many students are not active speaking English in classroom. The politeness are efficient teaching and learning, respect communication between teacher and students, togetherness between teacher and students, cooperating interaction between teacher and students, and the politeness can motivate students and developing a meaningful teaching and learning process.

Abstract

English Day is one of the development programs and language training conducted in one of the Islamic boarding schools in Jember with the intention of achieving maximal learning English speaking, especially in achieving the ability to speak English fluently. For this reason, this qualitative research is aimed to provide a rich, contextualized picture of English Language Day in one of the Islamic Boarding School in Jember, Indonesia (according to Denzin & Lincoln, Schwandt on Donna M. M and John A.M, 2004:95). By employing observation, documentation, and interview the data showed that although English Day is a good method for students to practice their English ability, some students still show inadequacy to speak English fluently.

Abstract

Technology, content, and pedagogy must have a meaningful relationship with each other so that Pre-service English Teachers' literacy can be connected to a variety of semiotic modes beyond written language. Interaction with a greater variety of texts in a variety of modes, media, and environments highlights the need for tools to assess English language instructors' TPACK when it comes to educating students in multimodal literacy. Several pre-service English teachers in EFL classes utilize the use of word wall media for learning. This research aims to identify the obstacles faced by pre-service teachers in utilizing TPACK to teach EFL English at a private university in East Java, Indonesia. By adapting the interview framework (Creswell, 2018), which consists of four discussion targets, including pre-service teachers' beliefs regarding the practice of using TPACK, which is applied in learning activities in junior high schools. This narrative qualitative method (Clandinin & Connelly, 2000) uses semi-structured interviews as its instrument. Systematically using Widodo's (2014) thematic analysis to analyze qualitative data. The findings show that there are many obstacles faced by pre-service teachers and students in implementing learning using TPACK in EFL classes, to be effective for their future teachers, pre-service skills.
