Abstract

Sufis played an important role in the spread of Islam, A. H. Johns said that Sufi nomads broadcast Islam in the Nusantara, as evidenced by the many local sources that attribute the introduction of Islam into the region to nomadic teachers and their Sufi characteristics. Sufi masters had attractive delivery skills, especially the compatibility of Islam with local Indonesian religious beliefs and practices at that time. In the forces of globalization marked by the development of steam and print technology, members of transregional Sufi brotherhoods known as tarekat, engaged in active competition across the Indian Ocean. They did so in the name of a broader orthodoxy. Snouck Hurgronje saw much to do with the exponential increase of Southeast Asian pilgrims due to the opening of the Suez canal in 1869 and the subsequent increase in steam shipping between Arabia and the centers of Singapore, Batavia, and Surabaya. Furthermore, there are many ulama (Javanese and Arabic) formed their own schools and succeeded in becoming centers for the spread of Islam. This research uses library research, which is a type of research that obtains data from collected from various literatures. This research shows that Tarekat has a religious authority that provides a significant role in the anti-colonial spirit and Islamic style in Indonesia which is nuanced sufistic and cultural. So this research strengthens the theory of the spread of Islam in Indonesia through Sufistic paths. Keywords : Tariqah, globalization, Indonesia

Abstract

[ As the study of religion developed, the concepts of religiosity and spirituality were debated by scholars. Religion and spirituality began to experience separation when Western secularism occurred in the mid-19th century. In this research, the author uses the type of library research. Religiosity is more considered as something formal and institutional, while spirituality is associated with something personal and functional experience, and reflects efforts to obtain the purpose and meaning of life. Spirituality and religiosity are different in terms of concepts, but certain aspects of both intersect. Theosophy, which means the wisdom of God, is an association pioneered by Madam Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. The substance of religious teachings is spirituality so religion cannot be separated from spirituality. Religion and religiosity are formal forms or institutions of spirituality. Religiosity is fixed by the order formed by certain theological structures while spirituality has free will pioneered by Madam Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to explore the inter-religious harmony built through tradition, culture, and local wisdom in Sengir Hamlet, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. Sengir is a multireligious community with Muslim and Christian residents who can maintain tolerance and harmony in daily life. Using qualitative and phenomenological approaches, this research revealed that local traditions such as Suran, Saparan, Rejeban, and death prayers are important in building spiritual harmony. These traditions not only are a space for social interaction but also reflect the values of pluralism and religious moderation. The results showed that the Sengir community's understanding of religion and culture is inclusive, which allows them to coexist peacefully despite having different beliefs. The leadership of religious, customary, and community leaders contributes to maintaining this harmony. This research contributes to the literature on diversity management and the importance of interfaith dialog based on local wisdom as a strategic solution in creating a harmonious and inclusive society.

Abstract

This article wants to explain the framework of Muhammad Iqbal's thinking in studying the renewal of Islamic knowledge in the form of hadith, in this case from a hermenutics perspective. Of course, what Muhammad Iqbal did received responses from two different sides in the form of those who agreed with the reform framework and those who did not agree with the reform framework, especially with the word hermeneutics. Those who do not agree with the heremeneutical framework prioritize the takwil framework, but in this case it is not that meaning that is discussed in this article but what is discussed is the hermeneutic framework. By using the library research method using primary sources written directly by Muhammad Iqbal and adding secondary sources in data processing, researchers found that the hadith conveyed by the Prophet must be able to be explained using a hermeneutical framework that is appropriate to social conditions. So, the meaning associated with hadith must be sought again within the framework of hermeneutics as a modern science. The hermenutics of hadith that must be understood is hadith hermeneutics, not the transfer of hadith texts to a new context arbitrarily, otherwise the hadith texts would be static and devoid of change. But what Muhammad Iqbal wanted was that the text must live up to the times. Where hadiths that do not fit into the framework of change and cannot keep up with the times do not have to be followed.

Abstract

This study discusses the activism of pesantren-based female politicians in utilizing the pesantren network in electoral districts where most of constituents affiliate with nationalist-style parties. One of which is the Soloraya area. A portrait of post-reform electoral districts with solid political affiliations to nationalist parties. In this context, this study intends to examine the political activism of women politicians based on Islamic boarding schools in electoral politics. The data collected in this study carries out by observation and in-depth interviews. This study argues that the solidity of the santri and pesantren constituent bases, the expansion of the non-student voter base, the support of the pesantren elite, and the performance of female political candidates based on pesantren are the keys to the success of transforming social capital into political capital to win electoral politics in electoral districts that are not pesantren based. The novelty of the findings of this study is that female politicians can win electoral politics in the 2019 elections by mobilizing political disillusionment, militancy, and solidity in support of the pesantren network, especially among women and the social capital attached to individual politicians. This study enriches the study of electoral politics and its relationship to the activism of women politicians based on pesantren.

Abstract

Inclusive education, which provides access to education for children with special needs, is greatly needed in society. However, to this day, the availability of suitable education for children with special needs remains limited. On the other hand, pesantren, as a unique educational institution in Indonesia, holds great potential for developing inclusive education. This study aims to explore the implementation of inclusive education in pesantren through a phenomenological approach, in order to understand the lived experiences of the pesantren community in the process of academic reform, including the dynamics, debates, and contradictions within it. The research was conducted at Ponpes Autis Achsaniyah Kudus using data collection methods such as interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis adopted the qualitative analysis model by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings of the study indicate that pesantren, with its tradition of openness (inclusivity) and respect for human rights (humanitas), is capable of providing the inclusive education needed by society and serving as an effective platform to realize inclusive education within the community.

Abstract

This article aims to examine Muhammad Iqbal’s contribution to shaping a hermeneutical paradigm of hadith as a response to the stagnation of Islamic textual interpretation, which has often been rigid and ahistorical. Rooted in the realities of Islamic intellectual modernization and the influence of Western civilization, Iqbal proposes a hermeneutical approach to reconstructing hadith understanding in a more contextual, dynamic, and relevant manner for contemporary challenges. This study employs a qualitative method, utilising a library research approach, to explore Iqbal’s works and the thoughts of contemporary Islamic hermeneutics scholars. The main findings reveal that Iqbal not only distinguishes legal hadith from pre-Islamic traditions but also emphasizes the importance of dialogue between the text, its historical context, and modern audiences. Iqbal’s contribution lies in his assertion that hadith, as prophetic revelation, must be interpreted creatively and transformatively to produce a universal and humanistic form of Sharia. This study enriches hadith scholarship by positioning hermeneutics as a relevant interpretive method in the development of progressive Islamic thought.

Abstract

The interaction between coffee shops and Muslims has led to studies on history, philology, symbolic interaction, and pluralism. Although research on coffee shops and Muslims has emerged, there is still no one who looks at it from the perspective of religioscapes. This study aims to examine the interaction of santri in public spaces and how the impact is caused from the perspective of religioscapes. This research uses Spradley's ethnographic method, intending to analyze the phenomenon of santribehavior in coffee shops in detail. Researchers become part (live in) so that they can elaborate on the various meanings of ways of thinking and behaving in understanding human clumps. Claudia Seise's concept of Religioscapes is used as an analytical method in describing the religious state of santri in Warung Kopi Yogyakarta. This research shows that religious practices that occur in secular places, including the recitation of shalawat burdah and the recitation of yellow books on the themes of fiqh, nahwu, and tasawwufthat are routinely carried out by santri, can influence other individuals, especially from non-santri, resulting in religion in secularcapes. Coffee shops as places that are initially neutral/secular become spaces for certain religious practices, which we call religion in secularscapes. This research implies that santri can form new religious spaces, or new religioscapes in secular places, where neutral spaces become sacred and religioscapes of this model do not have the main authority, but have diffuse authority.
