Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of static core training on dynamic balance in football athletes at Palangga Gowa Football School. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed involving 30 male athletes aged 13–16 years. Participants were randomly assigned into two groups: an experimental group (n = 15) undergoing a 6-week static core training program and a control group (n = 15) continuing regular football training without additional core exercises. Dynamic balance was assessed using the Y-Balance Test before and after the intervention. Results showed a significant improvement in dynamic balance within the experimental group, with mean scores increasing from 72.5 ± 5.2 to 85.3 ± 4.8 (p < 0.001). In contrast, the control group exhibited a non-significant change, from 71.8 ± 6.0 to 74.1 ± 5.9 (p = 0.15). The independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference in post-test scores between groups (t = 6.12, df = 28, p < 0.001), indicating that static core training effectively enhances dynamic balance beyond standard training. These findings suggest that integrating static core exercises into youth football training programs may improve athletes’ postural stability and functional performance, potentially reducing injury risk. The study supports the adoption of targeted core conditioning as a strategic approach to optimize athletic development in football.

Abstract

This systematic review explores the impact of game-based learning (GBL) methods on football instruction for school students, drawing on 12 peer-reviewed articles published between 2014 and 2024. The review follows PRISMA guidelines and focuses on five key domains: technical skill development, tactical understanding, motivation, physical fitness, and pedagogical implications. The studies reviewed employed models such as Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU), Small-Sided Games (SSG), and hybrid approaches in primary and secondary school settings. Quantitative findings revealed that GBL significantly improved technical football skills in 83% of the studies. For instance, in a study by Zhai et al. (2023), students participating in SSG-based training improved their passing accuracy by 19% and dribbling performance by 14% over six weeks. In terms of tactical cognition, 75% of the articles reported increased decision-making ability, with García-Ceberino et al. (2020) noting a 23% gain in tactical awareness among middle school students using the TGfU model. Furthermore, 9 out of 12 studies indicated a notable increase in student motivation and engagement. Gil-Arias et al. (2017) recorded a 22% rise in self-reported motivation scores in GBL classrooms. Physical fitness metrics also improved, with studies documenting gains in aerobic capacity and agility. Overall, GBL fosters a student-centred learning environment that enhances cognitive, physical, and affective outcomes in football education. The review underscores the need for structured implementation and further longitudinal research to ensure sustainability and efficacy in diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This literature review explores contemporary football learning strategies and their effectiveness in enhancing student competencies, including technical skills, tactical understanding, cognitive development, and social behavior. Drawing on 30 peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last ten years, the review categorizes the learning strategies into eight models: Play-Teach-Play (PTP), Reciprocal Learning, Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU), Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Drill Method, Sport Education Model (SEM), Differentiated Instruction (DI), and Cooperative Learning. The findings reveal that student-centered models generally yield greater competency development than traditional direct instruction. For example, Karisman et al. (2024) demonstrated a significant improvement in technical abilities using the PTP model, with GPAI scores rising from 53.20 to 78.65 among students aged 6–9. Syahruddin (2023) applied the Reciprocal Learning model, resulting in passing technique scores increasing from 7.86 (pre-test) to 27.38 (post-test). Additionally, Zanuarta and Priambodo (2024) found that PBL improved student motivation scores from 3.5 to 4.2 (on a 5-point scale), although cognitive score gains were modest. TGfU was especially effective in developing tactical awareness and decision-making skills. The review concludes that hybrid and student-centered instructional designs—particularly TGfU, SEM, and PBL—are most effective for developing holistic football competencies in educational settings. Recommendations are made for future longitudinal and mixed-methods studies to examine the sustainability and contextual adaptability of these approaches

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between strategic sports management and athlete performance enhancement through organisational effectiveness within the tennis program at the Faculty of Sports Science and Health (FIKK), Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM). Amid growing expectations for competitive achievement in university-level sports, there is an urgent need to optimise performance through efficient management practices. Using a mixed-method approach involving surveys, interviews, document analysis, and performance metrics, this study evaluates how five key dimensions of strategic management—planning, leadership, coordination, monitoring, and resource allocation—affect athlete outcomes. Quantitative data were collected from 32 student-athletes and eight coaching staff using structured questionnaires and performance monitoring over 12 months. Qualitative insights were gathered through in-depth interviews and analysis of institutional documents. The findings revealed that leadership (Mean = 4.20) and strategic planning (Mean = 4.12) were the most influential factors contributing to performance improvements. Coordination (Mean = 3.98) and monitoring (Mean = 4.05) showed moderate effectiveness, while resource allocation scored the lowest (Mean = 3.67), indicating existing logistical challenges. Statistical regression analysis demonstrated that organisational effectiveness significantly mediated the relationship between strategic management and athletic performance, accounting for 62.3% of the variance in athlete improvement outcomes (p < 0.01). Key performance indicators showed a 50% increase in match win rate, a 27% improvement in serve accuracy, an 8.4% gain in VO₂ max, and a 20.6% rise in athlete motivation scores throughout the study. This research provides empirical evidence that effective sports management strategies can drive meaningful enhancements in athlete performance when supported by well-structured organisational systems. It offers a replicable model for academic sports institutions aiming to balance education and elite performance. The study concludes with recommendations for refining resource allocation, fostering interdepartmental collaboration, and strengthening leadership pipelines in sports programs.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the accessibility and utilization of tennis facilities in public sports centers and assess their implications for community engagement in Makassar City, Indonesia. Employing a mixed-methods design, the research combined quantitative surveys (n=200) and qualitative interviews (n=20) across four major public tennis venues: Karebosi, Panakkukang, Antang, and Sudiang. The primary variables examined were physical accessibility, facility utilization, demographic reach, and community participation indicators. Findings show that Karebosi Sports Center scored highest in accessibility (mean score = 8.5/10) and average weekly utilization (75 users/week), followed by Panakkukang (8.0; 62 users/week), while Antang and Sudiang scored significantly lower in both accessibility (6.4 and 6.2, respectively) and utilization (38 and 33 users/week). Facility condition and management support were significantly correlated (r = 0.71; p < 0.01) with higher utilization rates. Demographically, adults (ages 26–45) made up 52% of users, while youth (15–25) accounted for 38%, particularly high at Panakkukang due to structured youth programs. Elderly participation remained low across all sites (≤5%), signaling a lack of inclusive programming. Only 2 out of 4 facilities hosted community engagement activities (e.g., tournaments, clinics), and these were directly associated with higher user satisfaction and retention. The study concludes that infrastructure quality, inclusive programming, and active community outreach are critical in maximizing the social value of public tennis facilities. Policy recommendations include improved funding, participatory facility management, and integrated sport-for-all strategies to enhance community engagement and public health in urban Makassar.
