Abstract

Creativity is a crucial ability in teacher education, especially for prospective teachers, as it relates to designing innovative, engaging, and contextually relevant learning strategies, methods, and media. However, the creativity of prospective teachers in designing primary science learning remains a challenge, as teaching practices are often conventional and less connected to local cultural contexts. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Ethno-STEM Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in fostering prospective teachers’ creativity in designing science learning media and modules for primary schools. The research was conducted at a University in Mataram involving 59 students of the Elementary School Teacher Education study program, divided into two classes. Data were collected using product assessment observation sheets with a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–4), and the scores were analyzed descriptively to determine the level of creativity demonstrated in the students’ products. The results show that students successfully developed learning products in the form of media and modules integrated with Ethno-STEM. Based on 15 indicators, the average score for learning media was 81.69, while the average score for modules was 82.52. These findings indicate that the products were in the good category, reflecting a positive impact of the model on fostering prospective teachers’ creativity.

Abstract

Abstract

The learning management system is one of the inventions in information technology that is incorporated into education. A Learning management system (LMS) is an important solution to tracking and addressing the online learning needs of the students in the social distancing period. The ultimate goal of this research is to produce LMS devices on Mechanics material to improve mastery of concepts and creativity. In this article students’ responses or perceptions will be addressed after being handled with LMS devices in the process of learning. This study involves research and development using 4D models which include define, design, develop and disseminate. The results of this study are the results of the developmental testing phase. The instrument used was in the form of student response questionnaire in Likert scale. Students give positive responses to the use of LMS devices. Student responses are at intervals of 81% to 100%, with a very good category. Learning process can work well. Students can easily access learning resources to do exercises to improve learning outcomes. The LMS devices developed was effectively used during learning and became one of the innovative learning in the social distancing pandemic COVID-19 period.

Abstract

Mental health is a fundamental aspect that prospective teachers must possess to carry out their professional roles effectively. Prospective teachers face various demands that begin in their university years and continue into their future careers as educators. This community service program aims to provide mental health training for elementary teacher candidates at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Mataram. The training was conducted in three sessions covering topics such as mental health awareness for teacher candidates, challenges and risks related to teachers’ mental health, creating a safe and supportive classroom environment, self-care for prospective teachers, as well as stress management and resilience. A total of 180 students from semesters 1, 3, and 5 participated in this activity. The implementation methods included material delivery, interactive discussions, video-based learning, and guided reflection. The results indicate that participants gained a better understanding of mental health issues and developed basic skills in managing stress and building resilience. This program is expected to serve as an initial step in fostering mental health awareness and readiness among prospective teachers.

Abstract

This study addresses the "pedagogical digital gap" by proposing a shift from using technology for content delivery ("scanning") to cognitive support ("scaffolding"). It investigates the effectiveness of a QR-Code Integrated Inquiry model on pre-service primary teachers' critical thinking skills. Employing a quasi-experimental design with 60 participants, data were analyzed using ANCOVA. Findings revealed a highly significant difference () between groups. The experimental group achieved a notably higher adjusted mean (57.43) compared to the control group (34.88), with a massive effect size (). The intervention successfully reduced extraneous cognitive load, facilitating deep reasoning consistently across genders and science topics. The study concludes that re-engineering simple technology as scaffolding creates a robust, inclusive learning ecosystem for teacher education

Abstract

Community service activities entitled "In House Training of Android-Based Educational Games for Prospective Elementary School Teachers throughout NTB" aim to improve the understanding and technical skills of prospective elementary school teachers in using and utilizing educational game platforms, such as Wordwall and Quizizz, in the learning process. This training was carried out using a hybrid method, involving 50 participants consisting of prospective elementary school teachers throughout NTB, where 30 people participated online and 20 people offline. This training was held in response to the limited technical skills of prospective teachers in developing educational games, which were caused by the lack of information and training related to game integration in learning. The results of the training showed that participants succeeded in creating educational games using the platform that had been introduced. The success of this training emphasized the importance of developing the technical skills of prospective elementary school teachers in creating interactive learning media. It is hoped that similar training can be carried out more widely and sustainably to support improving the quality of learning in elementary schools

Abstract

Science learning in tutoring institutions still faces challenges in strengthening teachers’ scientific literacy and creativity, particularly in the use of learning media and the implementation of innovative instructional strategies. This community service program aims to enhance the scientific literacy and creativity of tutoring teachers through innovative science learning at the elementary school level. The implementation method employed a participatory approach consisting of needs analysis, training and workshops, assistance in learning implementation, and program evaluation. The training materials included concepts of scientific literacy, inquiry-based learning, the development of innovative learning media such as e-modules, simple experiments, and virtual laboratories, as well as creative instructional strategies that promote students’ critical thinking. The results indicated improvements in teachers’ understanding of scientific literacy, the quality of developed instructional materials, and creativity in teaching practices within tutoring classrooms. In addition, more contextual, interactive, and 21st-century skills-oriented science learning practices were established. Therefore, this community service program contributes to strengthening the pedagogical competence of tutoring teachers while supporting the sustainable improvement of elementary-level science learning quality in Mataram City.
