Abstract

Social media use among school youth is increasing, but it is often used without adequate understanding of its educational and literary value. This situation gives rise to various problems such as the spread of false information, digital addiction, and low media literacy skills. This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and skills of school youth in utilizing social media positively as a means of education and digital literacy. Implementation methods include outreach, interactive training, group discussions, and mentoring in creating engaging and informative educational content on social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The results of the activity indicate an increase in participants' knowledge and awareness of the importance of digital literacy, internet ethics, and skills in creating useful content. The impact is evident in changes in adolescents' attitudes toward using social media wisely and productively to support learning and share positive information. In conclusion, appropriately directed use of social media can be an effective tool for improving literacy and education among school youth, while simultaneously developing a generation of intelligent, creative, and responsible young people in the digital era.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan calon guru sekolah dasar dalam merancang, membuat, dan memanfaatkan media pembelajaran matematika dengan benda-benda yang mudah diperoleh di lingkungan sekitar. Media yang dikembangkan berfokus pada materi bilangan, seperti bilangan bulat, lambang bilangan, bilangan cacah, bilangan prima, bilangan pecahan, dan lainnya. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini antara lain sosialisasi dan pembekalan, praktik pembuatan media pembelajaran secara berkelompok, pendampingan intensif oleh tim pelaksana, serta presentasi dan evaluasi hasil karya. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa seluruh kelompok peserta berhasil menghasilkan media pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan materi yang ditentukan dan dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran matematika di sekolah dasar. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi terhadap berbagai aspek, diperoleh tingkat keberhasilan kegiatan sebesar 85,25% yang menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan pendampingan berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan mahasiswa.

Abstract

Abstract The mathematical literacy ability of students in Indonesia remains low. One contributing factor is classroom learning activities that are primarily limited to the transfer of knowledge. Additionally, during the learning process, students with different cognitive styles are suspected to have varying levels of understanding of the same concept. The problem-based learning (PBL) model not only actively involves students but also provides them with opportunities to develop their abilities and foster critical thinking. Hence, this research seeks to explore the interplay between the Project-Based Learning model and cognitive styles in relation to students' mathematical literacy abilities. This quantitative study employed a factorial research design. The subjects comprised 64 junior high school students in Sumedang. Prior to the commencement of the learning process, students completed the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) to identify their cognitive styles. Following this, the experimental class was taught using the Project-Based Learning model, while the control class received conventional instruction over a three-week period. After the learning sessions, students were tested on their mathematical literacy skills. Data analysis was conducted using a two-way ANOVA. The results indicated that an interaction effect was observed between the learning model and cognitive style, influencing students' mathematical literacy skills.
