Abstract

Seaweed is one of Tanjung Bele's potential resources, but the macroalgae have not been able to improve the community's economy. This is because seaweed is only sold as dried seaweed. Lack of community knowledge and skills means that seaweed cannot be processed into products with economic value. Therefore, the purpose of this program is to improve the knowledge and skills of the Tanjung Bele community in diversifying seaweed into products with high economic value. This program is carried out in Tanjung Bele Hamlet, Olat Rawa Village, Moyo Hilir District, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. The target community is the wives of fishermen. The number of people involved in this program is 10 people who are members of the Ai Manis group. The methods used in this activity are counseling, training with active participation methods, evaluation of results using the pretest-posttest method and observation of partner products. This program starts with coordination, continues with counseling and training and ends with evaluation activities. Jelly and seaweed chips are two products made by fishermen's wives. The results of the pretest and posttest showed that most of the target community did not understand the material related to seaweed diversification. This is because most of the community are elementary school graduates and some others have not graduated from elementary school. There are two products produced by partners, namely jelly and seaweed chips.

Abstract

Fishing with explosives (fish bombs) is one of the cases of destructive fishing that occurs every year on the coast of Saleh Bay, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. The government has implemented several strategies to reduce destructive fishing, but these cases still occur on the coast of Saleh Bay. This research aims to determine fishermen's perceptions and principles regarding fishing using bombs. This research was conducted from June to August 2023 in Prajak Hamlet, Batu Bangka Village, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The method used in this research is a survey. The survey was conducted through in-depth interviews with respondents. The number of respondents in this study was 50 people. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Data is displayed with graphs. The research results show that there are still 2% of fishermen who think that bombs are a cheap fishing tool, produce abundant fish and are easy to operate. There were 2% of respondents who stated that there was nothing wrong with using bombs. The act of bombing fish was imitated by previous people. As many as 4% of fishermen are not sure that their actions will have an impact on the ocean. The majority of fishermen (72%) have a high level of confidence in using fishing gear recommended by the government, but there are 8% who feel unsure about using fishing gear recommended by the government. The results of this research indicate that there is still potential for fish bombing in the waters of Saleh Bay. Therefore, outreach activities are needed for fishermen regarding the impacts of using fish bombs.

Abstract

Waworada Bay is a water in Bima Regency which has long been used by some people for seaweed cultivation. Currently, seaweed farmers do not know the exact harvest period. This causes differences in the harvest period between farmers. So far, research on the harvest period in Waworada Bay is not yet available. The experiments aimed to assess the ideal period for harvest among the different growth periods (35, 45, and 55 days). This research was conducted in Waworada Bay, Langgudu District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara from November 2021 to January 2022. Observation variables were absolute growth, growth rate, wet and dry biomass, productivity and water quality (temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH, brightness, current). The seaweed cultivation method uses the longline method. The results showed that the highest absolute growth was found in the 55-day harvest period (115.70±1.71 g) and the lowest was in the 35-day harvest period (55.10±6.62 g). There was a significant difference in absolute growth between treatments. The growth rate was not significantly different between treatments with a value range of 1.09±0.24 to 3.55±1.39%day-1. Wet biomass ranged from 10,022±397.22 g 12m-1 (harvest period 55 days) to (6.306±149.92 g 12m-1) (harvest period 35 days). Dry biomass ranged from 670±34.12 g 12m-1 to 1.016±53.78 g 12m-1. Productivity ranges from 0.04 to 0.07 g dry weight m−2 days−1. The average water quality values are temperature 32.40 0C, dissolved oxygen 5.84 mg l-1, salinity 32 ppt, pH 7.30, brightness 2.50 m and current 14 cm sec-1.
