Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) in handling election crimes, focusing on supervision mechanisms, policy implementation, and law enforcement outcomes. A descriptive qualitative method was used, with data collected through literature reviews on election regulations, Bawaslu reports, and relevant previous studies. The analysis assessed Bawaslu’s performance based on supervision quality, coordination with the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu), law enforcement effectiveness, and obstacles encountered. The findings indicate that Bawaslu’s effectiveness relies on clear reporting procedures, responsiveness in handling reports, and investigative objectivity. Coordination with Gakkumdu plays a crucial role in ensuring transparent and efficient law enforcement, contributing to a decrease in election violations. However, challenges such as limited resources and weak regulations hinder optimal performance. This study highlights the need for capacity building, regulatory improvements, and stronger institutional synergy to enhance election crime handling.

Abstract

A state is said to be democratic if it provides a neutral public space for all citizens to express their opinions and ideas, including criticizing injustices committed by those in power. The purpose of this study is to describe, from a democratic standpoint, the restoration of the function of the press as a medium of social control in Indonesia, particularly in the context of the new press. A normative approach was used in this study’s research method. The study’s findings indicate that the new internet-based press can help to restore the function of the press as a medium of social control in a democratic context. The new press’s cyber public space can provide guarantees and expand public participation in all aspects of government and state life. The cyber public space, which is technically public and is linked to the National Cyber Parliament via the national press website, will serve as media control for the government so that it does not abuse its authority.

Abstract

This research discusses the semiotics of dark humor thrown by Bassem regarding the Hamas-Israel conflict in the Piers vs Bassem debate. The purpose of this research is to find out the efficacy of dark humor in strengthening the argument and the meanings and thoughts contained in the dark humor delivered by Bassem Youssef. To get these results, descriptive analysis method is used with Charles Sanders Pierce's Semiotics theory. The data source of this research is the dark humor thrown by Bassem in the video 'Hamas-Israel war:  Bassem vs Piers on Palestine's treatment' and managed to silence or produce a reaction from Piers Morgan. After the research, it was found that dark humor can strengthen some arguments because it reveals insights into social events and the impact of the war between Hamas and Israel expressed through dark humor. In addition, from some of his dark humor sentences, there are social phenomena that Bassem Youssef is trying to convey, including 1. Genocide, 2. ‘Human shield’ phenomenon, 3. Crimes against humanity committed by Israeli military groups before the events of October 7, 2023. The use of dark humor can reveal social events that are expected to be one from many ways to answer argument.
