Abstract

post-mining land reclamation poses a challenge in restoring degraded land's ecological function and productivity, requiring optimal rehabilitation to make it productive and environmentally friendly. A key challenge in reclamation is the availability of efficient water sources to support the revegetation process. Conventional irrigation systems are inefficient and require intensive monitoring. Therefore, an innovative solution in the form of an automatic irrigation system is needed to optimize water use and support sustainable plant growth. This study aims to design and develop a technology-based automatic irrigation system that combines soil moisture sensors, water pumps, sprinklers, solar panels, solenoid valves, and microcontrollers to regulate irrigation efficiently and on time. The methodology includes hardware and software design, integration of soil moisture sensors, a microcontroller as the control unit, and system field testing. The system is designed to activate irrigation based on real-time soil moisture levels automatically, ensuring water is only applied when needed. The system is expected to reduce excess water use and improve irrigation effectiveness across large and diverse areas. Results show that this automatic irrigation system can reduce water consumption by 34.2% compared to conventional methods. In addition, farmers can remotely manage irrigation via the Internet or mobile apps, reducing irrigation time by 75 minutes. This system holds the potential to be an innovative and sustainable solution for post-mining land reclamation, ushering in a new era of efficient and sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Post-mining land rehabilitation is an important strategy to mitigate climate change and conserve tropical ecosystems. Surface mining activities in East Kalimantan have caused ecological degradation and the release of carbon stored in vegetation and soils. Revegetation has been widely practiced as the main approach to restore ecosystem functions, including initial carbon accumulation by understory plants. This study aims to estimate the carbon stock of the understory on post-mining land that has undergone revegetation for one year at the PT Insani Baraperkasa site in Loa Janan, East Kalimantan. The method used was destructive sampling of understory biomass from 10 plots measuring 5 m x 5 m, each with subplots measuring 0.5 m x 0.5 m. Biomass samples were dried and converted to carbon. The results showed an average carbon stock of 1.26 tons/ha. These results suggest that understorey vegetation plays an important role in early stage carbon recovery on post-mining land. Understory carbon monitoring can be an effective early indicator to measure the success of ecosystem restoration. Keywords: revegetation, understorey, post-mining, carbon

Abstract

Abstract

Research has been carried out on how to apply the Balance Scorecard as a benchmark for employee performance at the Rubber Factory at PT. Nusantara Batulicin PT. Nusantara Batulicin is a private company located in South Kalimantan province in Tanah Bumbu district which operates in the rubber industry, bearing in mind that rubber in the Covid-19 and post-Covid-19 era experienced unpredictable price changes, initially the price of rubber reached Rp. 12,000,- per kilogram to Rp. 2,000,- per kilogram which of course has a big impact on the performance of the company's employees. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, the conclusion obtained is that the results of research using the application of the Balanced Scorecard in this research based on the four perspectives are in the good category. The financial perspective regarding the company's sales or income is in the positive category or making a profit from its business results, although in 2019 it experienced a loss but can be improved in 2020 and 2021. The customer perspective in terms of market share is correct, apart from that the company also provides maximum service so that customers feel satisfied and customer retention can be maintained. The internal business perspective from an innovation perspective always provides different innovations so that it can improve the quality of production results. Apart from that, from the operational aspect, the operational process is in accordance with the standards and procedures set by the government.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze the influence of clay mineral composition on the thermal evolution of source rock in the South Balikpapan area, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan. Mudstone samples were analyzed by vitrinite reflectance (Ro), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD analysis results show that the predominant clay minerals in the mudstone are mixed illite/smectite (35-42%), kaolinite (30-39%), illite (18-23%), and chlorite (5-10%). The predominant mineral presence of illite/smectite indicates a high heat retention capability. This plays an important role in the process of diagenesis and thermal transformation. High heat retention allows for localized temperature increases that further influence the thermal evolution of the host rock. The kaolinite mineral, which reaches 30-39%, contributes to the thermal stability of the host rock due to its inert nature in the medium temperature range. Meanwhile, the presence of illite minerals (18-23%) also supports thermal stability but with a smaller role than kaolinite. Otherwise, chlorite (5-10%) can increase the chemical reactivity of minerals under high temperature conditions, potentially triggering mild metamorphic reactions in rocks. The Ro values obtained from the samples range from 0.33% to 0.47%, which indicates a low to medium level of thermal maturity. This maturity level indicates that the mudstone rocks in the South Balikpapan area have not reached the optimal condition to produce hydrocarbons. These vitrinite reflectance values correspond to the estimated maximum temperature that the rocks have experienced, which is likely not high enough to trigger the formation of significant amounts of oil or gas.
